After a few different times in the last decade, thinking I had finally found a decent optometrist, despite a few early warning signs, and going to several where I knew immediately I was never coming back, we finally found the most awesome optometrist AND staff at Look! Before coming here, we were looking for the right doctor to help manage my son's myopia. For this particular need, we had been to 2 different doctors in the South Bay, each with limited experience in myopia management and each very focused on the dollars coming in, more than the service and finding the right program regimen for my son to lead to the best chance for desired results. I shopped around and "interviewed" over a half dozen optometrists about how they manage myopia with children. Dr. Stybel takes the best approach, in my opinion, and he has a wealth of experience and knowledge that he delivers professionally and with care in providing excellent customer service. His demeanor and service philosophy obviously flows to his (and the other doctor's (who also seems fantastic) team. So often, I have found great doctors of all sorts, but a frustrating office, but not here! They are completely wonderful! I needed to switch eye doctors and found Look! Optometry based on a recommendation from a local parenting group. My experience was fantastic. The front offie workers are friendly and welcoming. The tech explained all the pre-screening tests prior to administering them. Dr. Stybel was very personable and spent some time to get to know me before starting the exam. I was looking for an optometrist for my 4 year old and luckily I found this place in Manhattan Beach. Checked the doctor's background and I was happy to read that he had studies in pediatrics, so I decided to call and make an appointment. After that I only can say this: Dr. Stybel we wanted to thank you for your attention and serviced with our daughter. I cannot say enough good thinks about Look Optometry. The opticians are great at talking you through the pre-exam process. They even have a tool to check than you're producing enough oil and tears for your eyes! Dr. Lieu is kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. A small detail, but in the eye exam Dr. Lieu changed the eye chart at every step to make sure I wasn't memorizing the letters. I've never had that in an eye exam before but have always thought it should be standard practice. She made sure to answer any questions I had and make sure my new prescription felt right. They're incredibly efficient, within 45 minutes I had an eye exam and ordered new prescription sunglasses. The office staff were super knowledgeable about what lenses would work best for me. They said there is about a 2 week turnaround for my sunglasses, could be different depending on your needs. Look Optometry is definitely my go to provider now and I can't wait to go back next year for another exam! read more

I had a severe eye problem that caused me to see many specialists all over town, but it wasn't until I finally saw Dr. Stybel that I finally got my vision back. dont spend your money there. I ordered a pair of frames and was told one week. i paid $644 for the frames and waited for them to come in; getting nervous because it was taking a while and it was nearing Christmas. I asked about the cancelation policy. I no longer wanted to rely on the glasses coming in so i went out to buy christmas gift replacements. the glasses came in and I decided to cancel them anyway. they arrived to the store so i canceled. I was quoted $70 as a restocking fee by Andrew, but then they decided to charge me a whopping $130 as a restocking fee. that is 20%. the customary fee is only 10%. i never held on to the frames. this is highway robbery. Normally that wouldnt bother me, but 20% is outrageous for frames i never received. don't bother shopping there. read more

I'm visiting from San Diego, CA and my contacts I brought with me tore :( it was my last pair and I was well overdue for an eye exam. I had some downtime today and I booked an appt with Dr Huang. This was hands down the most pleasant optometry experience I've had. The entire staff is extremely friendly; Dr Huang is very knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. Even though I live in another county she offered to ship me my samples. I opted for the extra $60 test and glad I did just to make sure! Way better option that dilating your eyes! If I didn't live in San Diego this might be my primary optometrist but who knows; maybe I'll make a special trip once a year! 10/10 would recommend to anybody in the LA area! I recently had an eye exam which resulted in a new prescription and purchase of frames. I opted for a nice pair of Ray-Ban frames. After a few months the ear pieces on the frame became loose. I returned to Look Optometry for a repair. I was told the frames were under warranty, but I would have to pay a $50 processing fee. I feel the cost of the frames and the fact they were only a few months old, this should be a free repair. Good bye Look, I will inform all of my Manhattan Beach friends to avoid Look. read more

Loved my visit. I came in after having issues with my contacts recently prescribed by another optometrist. Dr.Stybel definitely knew his stuff and had a solution to every issue I expressed. He is very knowledgeable & and extremely friendly. 3 things I loved: 1. They have a small handy machine that replaces the "eye air puff" machine. So if you come here you don't have to worry about looking into a hunky outdated contraption that blows the dreaded puff of air in your eye, while you concentrate on keeping your eye open only for the staff to say you blinked and have to do it all over again. 2. Dr.Stybel is great at explaining options and costs associated with each option. I always appreciate any type of medical service where costs are transparent. 3. I couldn't help but write a review about the NEW Look! Optometry in Manhattan Beach. Dr. Stybel is seasoned, patient and knowledgeable who just took over this practice and finally making it a new experience for locals (and visitors) in the South Bay. I heard Dr. Stybel had another practice in WeHo and after reading those rave reviews I decided to try Look! The other reviews here set me back but when I found out its now a new owner and management I was excited someone like Dr. Stybel was on this side of town. Dr Stybel is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. His office really explained all the tests and procedures and everyone was so kind. His office seems very updated with the latest in eye technology (including a brand new neurolens machine) and I felt confident I was in good hands. For an eye exam, it really was pain free and great! Terrible experience at Look Optometry. I went in to get the blue lens on my sunglasses replaced, as it had worn off over the years. The woman helping me asked a zillion questions, when all I wanted was to replace what I already had in the sunglasses. She charged me $160 which I knew was pricey but I was willing to pay it for convenience since I live 2 blacks from the store. After spending 45 mins there, I received a call a couple hours later from them saying that they needed charge me an additional $90. I found this to be very unprofessional and odd. However, I had already put so much time into it that I said ok. 2 1/2 weeks later the glasses were finished and they weren't even done correctly! I did receive my money back but what a waste of time! I will never go back! read more

All they care about is your money. Read other Look! reviews and you'll see this is not an isolated event rather a business practice. I'm a customer service management consultant and any time I leave an establishment upset, someone's integrity is out. In this case it was Look! All I needed was a simple screw tightening and a new nose pad on an expensive pair of glasses I purchased there several years ago. Immediately upon entering the store Mr. Silver asked what I needed and I told him. He said "We're busy can you leave them." I said yes, "when can I get them?" He said "I don't know it could be 30 minutes it could be more, were busy, I don't know." He didn't say come back tomorrow or in two hours, he said I don't know. This left me completely in the dark. I gave my glasses and contact info to a girl at the front desk, that's when Mr. Silver's wife walked up and asked what I needed. Really? I had just gone over it with Mr. Silver and the girl at the desk. She then took the glasses out of the tray and began to tell me they were out of warranty and it might cost for a part replacement and until they examined them closely she wouldn't know adding to my uncertainty. This is where I realized I wasn't a customer to these people, I was a dollar sign. I asked for my glasses back and left upset and not believing my experience. Bottom line I went two blocks over to Optical Outlet and they tightened the screw and put a new pad in. It took about two minutes. read more

I was having headaches and some blurred vision, so I decided to call Dr. Stybel to see if he could fit me in. Not only did he fit me in, but he diagnosed my issue immediately, fit me into stylish new frames, and immediately made my life better. I hadn't seen an eye doctor for a couple of years and was pleasantly surprised to see all of the new state of the art equipment in the Look office. New eyedoctor found! Headaches gone! (His staff was great too..they entertained with my 3 year old while I was being examined and helped me pick out my new frames) **The previous reviews really don't make sense to me. I must apologies in advance. I'm not the kind of guy that bashes businesses or professionals. You can look at my reviews to see this. Actually I feel that I am usually too complementary. But in this case I must "keep it real". In short the doctor was rushed and preoccupied. He was dealing with an angry patient. He took about 8 angry phone calls and walked out of the room during my examination many times. His office felt like a closet. Half of his glasses for purchase were on display in a storage room. Overall it was a very bad experience in a beautiful part of town and I'm not looking forward to going back down there to pick up my glasses. read more

Let me be clear that my initial review was written before my glasses debacle. After thinking about the frames I had chosen, I had 2nd thoughts and phoned to cancel my order- Dr. Silverman said he could not cancel the order and I would need to call my insurance company. Upon calling my insurance company they confirmed Dr. Silverman could in fact cancel the order but he refused. I informed my insurance company of his less than stellar customer service and exam & they offered to give me another eye exam since I wasn't pleased. If I could give them a .001 I would. I was extremely disappointed with my visit/service/treatment at a place I thought would be very nice due to the upscale location. The assistants were very nice, but the doctor was rude and unprofessional. I had to have my glasses re-done, which could have been avoided when I questioned my new perscription immediately for making me feel nauseous/extremely dizzy. He became hostile and was persistent on me keeping them to "adjust" instead of changing them immediately like I was requesting. As a young woman I felt scolded/intimidated by this, and his rude questioning of my comprehension of my own vision. Not only did my glasses come back with the lens bulging/not set properly in the frame, they had neglected to order in my sunglasses as well, which were needed for a trip in now early summer. I thought it was plain negligent to inconvenience me further with this along with the shoddy re-done frames, and asked for some kind of customer service discount. He literally laughed in my face, at which point I decided I would never ever come here again if that's how the doctor treats customers. To put the cherry on top, my sunglasses sat for an extra week after delivery because they forgot to call. In a half-hazard attempt to be nice, the doctor called to offer to drop them off at my work -- when I called back he couldn't be reached for hours. Horrible! Love this optometrist and glasses shop. Very flexible with insurance and they always work to make sure we get the insurance information correctly. Also, they sell Mira-Flex frames which are absolutely necessary with three boys in glasses. read more

We have great optical insurance and we love this place! In the heart of Manhattan Beach you have your pick of high end designer or insurance covered glasses. They have the most variety I have found in the Southbay. You can get your eye exam and order your glasses then have lunch at Nick's or Zincs in Metlox and your glasses will be ready. read more

I was just told by a friend that Look Optometry was recently acquired by Optometrist, Dr. Stybel. I live in the area and previosuly saw a different doctor at this practice (who is no longer working there). I was due for my annual eye exam and was eager to give him a try after my friend was raving about his services. I am so glad I did!! He is very knowledgeable, personable and timely. His practice offers state of the art equipment (stuff I've never seen before). They also have an amazing selection of glasses! I am really happy Dr. Stybel moved to our neighborhood!! read more

I liked this place. When I called, Dr. Silverman answered the phone and was very kind and scheduled me in on the exact day and time I wanted. They called the day before to remind me of my appointment which was nice. My exam was totally fine and Dr. Silverman definitely knows what he's doing and what he's talking about. I felt the overall appointment plus my contacts came out a bit pricey and I do have pretty good eye coverage so i was a bit surprised to see the final bill come out to almost $230. Perhaps it is my own fault for not doing enough research on my coverage and just allowing them to do any tests they wanted, plus I bought a year's worth of contact. Either way, I had a very good, friendly experience and would recommend Dr. Silverman to my friends for sure! :-) read more

My Google Glass Titanium frames and my VSP lenses came in and fit perfectly. I even was able to get the VSP discount fro the Glass special lenses fro the VSP lab. Dr. Silverman is always at the forefront of technology and as such is one of the few certified providers by Google/VSP for Google Glasses. I still highly recommend Look! Optometry. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Silverman for over 15 years (I started seeing him when his location was off Inglewood near the In & Out). I strayed once due to insurance reasons and certainly learned my lesson. My recent visit was a week ago and it was just as good as the first time. The staff Dr. Silverman employs are always helpful and well trained. They always try to get your insurance info situated before you show up and are very personable. Dr. Silverman is very personable himself and each time I come in for my yearly check-up it is always a pleasure. He knows my family and enjoys hearing about my life. Ok so I don't even live in Manhattan Beach anymore and was in town visiting old friends when I decided on a whim to try and get new glasses before I had to leave. I walked in on a Saturday with a girlfriend and the woman who helped me picked out the frames I ended up loving on first try. Best shape for my face, best color - you name it. I explained I had to fly back east the upcoming Friday so they made me an appointment for Monday morning. Doc? Awesome!!! Aside from being a super thorough exam he took the time to explain different options for my slightly complicated vision issues. I mean I have always known I had 1 eye that's practically half blind and one good eye but with age my eye issues are even more complicated. He took twice the normal time, tried out different options and didn't try to "sell me" on more expensive - he just wanted me to understand and decide what I was the best choice for me at this time. I'm not working so cost was an issue and he helped me choose reading glasses - which I need for computer work and - well reading. Oh and bonus - he's just super funny as well! They promised my glasses by late day Thursday - but put a rush on them so I got them early afternoon Wednesday! My only issue is they are so cute I want to wear them all the time but as they are for reading looking distance makes me dizzy - but full disclosure Doc had fully explained that would happen before I ordered so that's just me being bummed my vision is so whack.
