The comprehensive tests and machines used are top notch. She does different tests than what my former optometrists have done. Dr. Choi is knowledgeable and is very compassionate in what she does, and she knows how to pick out a frame and color to match your face. She picked a frame for me, but I wanted to try a few others. I ended up getting the frame she picked out. She was able to cut lens for my old frames as well, which was awesome! This office is very clean and gorgeous, and it has a great selection of frames to choose from. I love the brands they carry here. When I visit, there's typically parking in the free parking lot.

Warning to the South Bay: This is NOT the local, caring optometry office it pretends to be. They are part of VSP Ventures, a massive corporate giant (Google it & see attached pic), and it shows. They treat patients like numbers on a spreadsheet, not humans and repeatedly got my eye exams wrong. The Negligence: For six years, they failed to diagnose a standard condition I've had since 2017. In July 2025, Dr. Lee removed my astigmatism correction entirely. When I explicitly told her I couldn't see and questioned the prescription, I was dismissed. A manager promised to call me back--no one ever did. The Result: I spent months driving with dangerous, blurry vision and wasted over $3,000 on 9 pairs of useless glasses because I thought better glasses would help me, but the problem was their incompetence. I finally went to a new independent doctor (Leaf Optometry), who immediately diagnosed the issue and confirmed Manhattan Beach Vision Group has been getting it wrong for years after looking over all my previous prescriptions. Do not trust your eyes to this factory. They care about volume, not accuracy. Go to a real local doctor who actually listens and cares.

I only learned of this charge at checkout. When I questioned it, the interaction became uncomfortable. They eventually agreed to remove the charge in exchange for deleting the contact lens fitting data. Additionally, my name was spelled incorrectly on the printed glasses prescription I took home, even after I asked for it to be corrected. The checkout experience felt rushed and uncomfortable, and I left without having my existing glasses tightened, despite needing an adjustment due to normal wear, which was disappointing. On a positive note, the technician who performed my initial tests before I saw the doctor was very professional and courteous. I am sharing this review so others considering this office know to be vigilant, ask detailed questions, and get clear confirmation of costs upfront. I will not be returning.

I went to do eye check, after the eye check they told me they don't have the glasses they did couple of calls while I'm there to provide the glasses. They gave me a bad and a good news. good news that they found the glasses. Bad news that it doesn't have warranty. Of course I need the warranty, so they told me they will call by next week and let me know if they can provide it. After around 3 weeks they sent an email that they can't provide it. What do you think? Why didn't you ask what is the glasses I want if you can't provide all glasses? Why you wasted my time coming all this way and do the eye check for the prescription?

Due to the pandemic I've spent so much more time behind a screen because of virtual meetings and classrooms. My eyes have been straining and causing headaches. I finally made the decision to get Lasik and it was the best decision I've ever made. I was so nervous and almost cancelled my appointment because my surgery day was the day before Christmas Eve and didn't want to spend a whole week recovering. Surprisingly I rested the whole day of my surgery and pretty much slept all day and woke up the following day as if nothing even happened plus I was able to see CLEARLY! I was so fascinated and extremely impressed by how fast, pain free, and quick the procedure was. I definitely highly recommend Dr.Semel if you're looking into finding the right ophthalmologist to do your Lasik procedure - she is the one ! Thank you to the manager, Paula for making me feel so comfortable and encouraging me to do Lasik with Dr.Semel. I hadn't heard a word from the office so I called right about May 10th. I was told we need to set up surgery dates. I said I thought we had dates for June 2nd & 9th. Apparently there was a surgery date for June 2nd & the June 9th date needed to be set up. I had a batch of appointments made during this phone call. I was also told at the time I needed to come in to the office or go to the pharmacy for eye drops, wipes and a face mask. I came into the office the next day and paid $60 for the items. I also asked while at the office how much the out of pocket costs will be. I was told they would find out the out of pocket costs the next day. On May 18th I had my doctors appointment for surgery approval & paid $25 for a co pay. I go back to the Dr Semel office May 19 for my pre op appointment. After the procedure I again asked before I left what will the out of pocket costs be. I was told my insurance will pay for surgery. However to get the surgery done to get rid of my glasses will be $5,500 for each eye. I then had to cancel all the appointments. I can't commit to a $11,000 payment right now. I should've been told this information when I came in for my first appointment. What a waste of everybody's time & money

Before coming here, we were looking for the right doctor to help manage my son's myopia. For this particular need, we had been to 2 different doctors in the South Bay, each with limited experience in myopia management and each very focused on the dollars coming in, more than the service and finding the right program regimen for my son to lead to the best chance for desired results. I shopped around and "interviewed" over a half dozen optometrists about how they manage myopia with children. Dr. Stybel takes the best approach, in my opinion, and he has a wealth of experience and knowledge that he delivers professionally and with care in providing excellent customer service. His demeanor and service philosophy obviously flows to his (and the other doctor's (who also seems fantastic) team. So often, I have found great doctors of all sorts, but a frustrating office, but not here! They are completely wonderful!
