The staff and doctors genuinely care deeply, they are looking out for your eye health, and they're super friendly!! The Dr. was ok, although, I didn't understand having to wear a mask when entire staff was not wearing one. That didn't make sense to me. Very awkward communication - like what we were doing next was confusing. After my daughter had her eyes checked, we were walked out front. No direction on what we were going to do next. A woman walked out and introduced herself - said it's time to pick out glasses. So, I told me daughter, let's take a look. I was abruptly stopped in my tracks, and informed that NO...we do not look at glasses ourselves, she does. She picks them out and then we look at what she has picked. Was not asked about budget, etc. If my daughter was not with me, I would have lost it...but, I stopped talking and sat down. It was beyond unprofessional and made me feel so uncomfortable. I've never been talked to like that, in that condescending way. My husband was in the day before and failed to mention how weird his experience was. Had I known, I wouldn't have went in. read more

I've been going here for about 6 years based on a referral from a coworker. Both doctors are fantastic, and the front office has always been friendly and accommodating. I miss Dr Capist! The new dr is good. Do not buy the CoCo Dong frames. They're flimsy. My pair won't stay on, slip off so they're useless. They also were defective. The edge of the frame caused a run on a pillowcase. Very pretty frames but that's all...for what they are, they're way overpriced. They offered to help resolve this but I'm not sure how. The staff is very nice..think this line wasn't a good choice as far as high end frames go. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Cat Jang. (She is the principal optometrist at this location.) My husband had an eye "emergency" and she was very generous to see him right away even when she was so busy. She was thorough in her examination and her knowledge is tremendous. She genuinely cares about her patients. Every COVID -19 precaution was taken during the visit. As soon as I walked in for my first appointment, they checked my temperature (as per COVID-19 precautions), asked to wash my hands, then checked me in. We had a bad experience with Dr. Kapust. My daughter went for a consultation last month and he said he would get back to us regarding the medication after our appointment. We had to call several times to follow up and at the end he didn't give the right diagnosi, the medication did not work at all and we had to see another doctor after being charging for 2 consultations! I was a patient of Dr. Kapust and really liked him & his staff until I had some eye & contact lens complications and had to see an ophthalmologist. His normally very friendly demeanor changed dramatically when I told him about the appt. with an M.D., and requested a copy my records. He didn't want to give them to me (although legally the patient's records are the patient's property). He grilled me about where I got the referral for the M.D., and told me that he was now going to charge me retroactively for previous contact lens follow-up appts. that he earlier said were no charge (!). His staff was also unkind to me about this. Another BIG problem - he got my eyeglass prescription wrong and I walked around for 2 months getting headaches until the M.D. tested me and fixed the prescription (and diagnosed and corrected the other problems as well). I've had glasses since I was two and surgery on both eyes when I was 5 (and I'm now 28) so suffice to say I've had a lot of experience with different eye doctors. This was the worst experience I've ever had, start to finish. I found Dr. Kapust after moving to Hermosa Beach because the office is really close to where I live. That was my first mistake - picking a doctor based on convenience alone. I paid for it. First of all, the receptionist is incredibly rude. She acts like you're ruining her day by being there. I'm not going to waste my time by going into the details of my interactions with her, but as you'll see in a minute, I was here MANY times over several weeks and she was a gigantic b-word every single time, so it wasn't just one bad day. Dr. Kapust has literally no idea what is going on. First he attempted to turn my eyelids inside out, saying, this is necessary for me to see if there's any damage. OK bud, I'm not here because I'm in pain, I'm here for a routine exam to update my contacts prescription. Not a single doctor EVER has ever attempted to turn my eyelids inside out. He said, "Well I can't make you let me." I was like, you're right. Moving on. He asked me how my contacts were working out for me. I said they were fine but I just need an updated prescription. He said, well if they're fine then let's just not mess with it. What? Your prescription changes every year, however slightly.... I have NEVER had an eye doctor decline to update my prescription for me. But I was like, k whatever. So he orders the exact same contacts with the exact same prescription for me. I come back a week later to pick them up, fine. I use the new contacts the next day. While at work, I notice something isn't right. I have to get really close to my computer screen to see words.... something that has never happened to me before. I think, maybe I'm just tired. On the couch that night, I turn on the TV. I can't see the menu. What the hell is going on?? The next day I call back. They tell me to come in again and get checked. I leave work early and go in for another exam. He can't figure it out. Tells me to see if anything changes. A week goes by and I'm still struggling to see. I'm starting to freak out... what is happening?! I call him again - he can't figure it out. I call back again - I read my prescription to him - he realizes that he entered the prescription wrong into the computer. WOW. So now I've left work early multiple times, haven't been able to see, and have spent several hundred dollars on contacts that are the wrong prescription. Never even got an apology. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. read more

I was very impressed with Dr. Kapust and all of his staff. Everyone was so friendly that I felt welcomed immediately. I wear glasses and contacts. Dr. Kapust check my glasses even though I bought them through costco and made sure they were the correct prescription. He explained everything to me and took his time even though the office was busy. And on top of everything my new contacts came in the next day! Usually it takes weeks make me wonder why all the other offices takes so long. read more

Wanted to switch optometrists and tried Dr. Kapust, based on some pretty nice reviews here on Yelp. I was able to make an appointment for the next day, which was really convenient. They emailed me all the forms to fill out, so i could do them at home, instead of sitting around a waiting room. Small detail, but nice. Once there, I found Dr. Kapust and his staff really friendly and helpful. They have a nice, casual atmosphere that puts you at ease. I'm pretty bad about going to any doctor regularly and I have some really bad eyecare habits - wearing my lenses too long, too often, not changing them when i should, etc. And the doctor was really good about pointing out my mistakes, while not making me feel stupid. He was great about educating me about the do's and don'ts. Throughout the very thorough exam, he made sure to explain everything - not just what he was doing, but the science behind it. And reassured me that despite my bad habits, my eyes were quite healthy! He uses all the latest equipment. Instead of the old projected eyechart seen through a mirror on the wall, he has an Apple monitor on the wall and clicks through the various charts on that. It somehow feels more accurate... They also have this great thing where they take a photo of the inside of your eyes. And then you can see where any issues lie, or if you're pretty healthy, eye-wise. Pretty rad. But the thing that impressed me was that it's a service that insurance won't cover and he makes sure to let you know that upfront, and you can decide whether you want it or not. All in all, a really good experience. Which makes me more likely to return as often as i'm supposed to. read more

I started seeing Dr. Kapust in... 2001? 2004? I forget. Anyway, I'd just moved to the South Bay and had made a list of optometrists in the area and was driving around scoping them out (what is it with doctors' offices in California being kinda decrepit-looking?) and besides his office being in order, I was intrigued by the idea of ortho-k (which I'd never heard of at the time). Fast-forward to 2015 and I'm living in Arizona and making the trip to LA to keep seeing him. Also, loving ortho-k, for what it's worth. Like other reviews on here you will find the front desk service to be exactly as others have said - receptionist is always huffing when helping you, acts put out if you need anything like your freaking prescription and gets pissy if you don't purchase glasses there - very misleading by all of the high end ads for frames in their storefront and they don't have them - ever - save yourself a trip and find another place that doesn't hassle you at the beginning - time for a new front desk person read more

Had an almost identical experience to Beach G. After an initial eye exam, which was fine, I was given the wrong prescription. When I told Dr. Kapust, he was clearly annoyed, as if I was to blame. "What's happening?" he said. I responded that I couldn't see with the glasses. He looked at them, realized the mistake, uttered, "Uh, I don't know what's happening," left them at the front desk and headed back to his exam room. He could not answer my question about when I would receive the new pair. When they arrived again weeks later, again it was the wrong prescription! I finally gave up and went to another eye doctor who was, to say the least, shocked by the glasses that I'd been prescribed. Something's up. Beach G is correct that there are many open appointments. There are simply too many good optometrists in the area to waste your time here. read more

WOW. Just moved back to Hermosa. Bad experience with Dr. Kapust. He tried hard to sell me unnecessary extras. He told me I had a "hole" in my cornea. When questioned, he became surly, and backed off this story. Then, he told me I needed a prescription for anti-biotic, and I needed to come back for 2nd visit after the meds were used. I should have left the office right then & there!! Charged me for a follow up. The prescription for contacts was incorrect. I went to a ophthalmologist , & he confirmed I was given an incorrect prescription. My impression at the time was he was desperate for the business. I felt a little bit sorry for him, but I would NOT recommend this eye care "professional". I am still MAD. Stay away!! read more

Went here this past weekend for an eye exam -- I'm semi-new to LA and went straight to Yelp once I realized I had been wearing my last pair of contacts waaaaaay longer than the recommended usage. I gotta say, Dr. Kapust is the man... definitely knowledgable and trustworthy when it comes to the eye doctor stuff (which is good, since that's what he does), but also just a good, down to Earth guy to talk to. We talked basketball and bay area, and I also found out on my visit that I'm in the 'rare, less than five percent of the population whose glasses prescription is exactly the same as their contacts prescription'. I found Dr. Kapust after reading through Yelp reviews as I needed an optometrist in the South Bay. My experience was excellent as anticipated from the reviews I read. Dr. Kapust is very friendly and he thoroughly explains what he is doing throughout the eye exam. It is highly evident that he truly enjoys his profession. I was also very impressed with the state of the art equipment in the office, especially the 3D eye machine that took a color photo of each eye to detect any eye ailments or other potential health problems. I have been seeing Dr. Kapust regularly for the past 20 years I've lived in the South Bay. He always does thorough exams and does way more than just check your sight. All of my kids have gone to him and most recently he helped my 10-year-old son explore the option of getting contact lenses. He was patient, supportive and really made the process easy and my son feel comfortable. I would highly recommend him for all your visual needs. If only two of these items are present the service is probably good but it is not professional. I was seen right away, all the tests were done quickly and efficiently and all my options were clearly explained both with regard to what my insurance did and did not cover. I was also given many options for contacts, and they even found me a rebate with my favorite contact brand.
