I hope everyone is aware that Waltman Construction AND Elements (formerly Snowtech) were recently sued for PRICE FIXING snow removal costs in Tahoe Donner. They "settled" the lawsuit, which probably means they can claim they "did not do anything wrong." Ha. We know what it means. The lawsuit states the Waltman/Elements agreed to fix pricing as well as start/end dates for the snowplow season. They had a minimum price for driveways. Read details below. There are incriminating emails, and etc. I know they settled out of court because I was a customer for a few years, and got a settlement offer (of $30 whole dollars). What a joke. But more importantly, I took my business away from them years ago, and will obviously NOT be going back for snow plowing, house staining, asphalt repair, or anything else these guys do. Just not a cool thing to be price fixing, much less in your own neighborhood. NOT COOL. They should be ashamed. There's enough snow to be plowed by everyone. I also happen to know that a third (small) local snowplow business (who now does have my business) was basically told by Elements that he would be "crushed" if he tried to compete in Tahoe Donner. I have Elements doing snow removal at my home in Truckee - and through a record-breaking, 50 year snow level. I won't say there weren't issues, but Elements was very communicative throughout the record snow fall. I really appreciated that they did come on a day that there was no snow fall but they widened and fully clear my driveway - they also invited me to shovel my bear box and throw the snow in driveway. I really can't say enough good things about them. Again not saying that everything is always perfect - but their communication and professionalism has always made challenging weather events more bearable. read more

Prior to Waltman and Snow Tech merging into Elements, Waltman service was 5 star! I am embarrassed for the Waltman family! Elements is the WORST customer service for snow removal company in Truckee CA. DO NOT Pay their high cost for false promises. Yes this is an epic snow year, so Elements should have prepared for it, they did not! They remove snow once a day on their time frame. It is after I leave for work...no help there! And yes I have called numerous times letting them know that we are now full time residents. Also they only have 1 SHIFT to make ! PASS!!!!!!!! so if you want to get into your house after work forget it, they do NOT follow the city's posted schedule and remove birms. In the better days, they did shift work...commom sense right! When I called for help, I was told to pack a shovel! As an emergency room nurse working 12 hours in a traumeacenter, I have to dig the city birms to be able to get my house. Clash Action Law suit? Elements dropped several dead trees on my lot recently. They were prompt and did a nice job with no damage to my home. They also did a great job cleaning up as there were no signs that they had been there. Price was reasonable based on the work conducted. We are paying for daily service and haven't been plowed in 3 days. Our neighbor who pays for twice-daily service has been getting plowed. They finish and drive right past our driveway without servicing it! We tried to call to upgrade our service in hopes of getting plowed at least once a day, but they don't answer their phones! read more

I recently engaged Elements to stain my house in Tahoe Donner. Because I was a customer of Snowtech, which was a predecessor entity, I felt their bid was reasonable and didn't shop around. I was very sensitive about timing because I rent my home and any days where it is unavailable for maintenance can cost me revenue. In all honesty, there was a bit of a snafu on the timing - they didn't start when they said they would due to staffing challenges, and I was pretty upset because I had to call to find this out (rather than them calling me). But Josh was very professional about the whole matter, offered me a slight discount for the inconvenience and personally oversaw the job on the new date. I give Elements a five because of the professionalism exhibited when the problem occurred and for the excellent end result. The house looks superb, and clean and I am very happy with the outcome. read more

Elements is a great company, responsive and responsible. They do such a good job with our snow removal service, sending updates regularly, keeping our driveway clear and easy to navigate in the winter, that we hired them to seal our driveway. Glad we did, it makes our home look so much nicer. We have, in the past, used them to seal our decks. They let us know when we can skip a season and gave us a nice discount when we added window washing to the job. Nice to have a local company to rely upon. read more

Great job and good service on the exterior stain job. There was a spot we thought wasn't done as good as other spots and they were very responsive and came right back out to apply another coat. ( It was done originally, it just gets lots of sun.) I would recommend Elements for all of their services, but specifically the exterior stain job, was done when we agreed to and done very well. read more

They did an excellent job creating a defensible space around my house and really cleaned up the lot next door. They trimmed all the trees away from the house and hauled everything away. Best painters in Truckee! I tried Elements for an interior project after they did a great job on the exterior. We have had a home in Truckee for 12 years. We had used other painters and were not happy with the quality or the amount of missed spots. We needed a couple dozen trees removed from our Tahoe Donner yard. Although seemingly a newcomer to defensible space services, Elements Mountain provided a very prompt and super competitive bid (about half the cost of other companies). The Elements crew showed up as scheduled and within 2-3 days had safely cut down or limbed all the rmarked trees, then chipped and hauled away all the waste, leaving nothing but very low cut stumps and some sawdust behind. They even handled the paper work to document to the forestry service that our mandatory defensible space work was completed. read more

We have thoroughly been pleased with level of work on all of these areas. The defensible work was completed this week. The crew was professional, courteous and hard working. It's still early in the 2017-2018 snow season, so the jury is still out. I'm hoping today's snow removal was only a practice run for tractor drivers to recognize which driveways to clear. They plowed through my driveway quickly, leaving plenty of snow for me and my shovel to manage on our own. read more

They sealed our driveway. They were very easy to get a bid and schedule work. But, work was sloppy and there were patches that they missed completely. I compared the work to our neighbors, who used Schaefer and there was no comparison. We will be changing service providers next time we seal. read more

I recently had two large decks sanded and stained by Elements. I live in my home full time and, with COVID precautions, I use my decks whenever friends or family come by. I cleared the small things from the deck and timed watering of the planters based on Element's stated schedule. What should have been a four day process, one sand, one stain, two days curing turned into 1 1/2 weeks of not being able to use my deck (and trying to carefully water plants so that I didn't get the deck wet!). They did not show up when expected (did not call to tell me they were not coming) and some days worked only a few hours. This is all fine for the many houses they service which are empty second homes, but as a full timer, I felt I received little respect (no apologies were offered; they didn't care that I was upset). read more

Storming in Tahoe Donner and these guys seem like they barely make it out every other day. They never come in the morning. My driveway has been a mess. I barely make it in and out with my 4WD truck and snow tires. Today they only cleared half of the driveway in my condo's 4-plex, leaving the other half unplowed for a day and a half now. My neighbor hasn't been able to get his (AWD) car out in two days! Looks like these guys are seriously overbooked this year, or just being cheap, or both. read more

Since the two removal companies merged two years ago I've noticed a major drop in the quality of work they provide. I've had multiple days where I get up to leave and the removal they have done leaves tons of snow that we still need to move to get vehicles out of garages etc. multiple days like today where they never even come and out whole complex wakes up to 2-2.5 feet of snow in the whole driveway and nobody can even get out to go to work. There burm work is minimal to non existent they used to come around and clear burms multiple times throughout the day and now we're lucky if they come back even once. Over all I am highly disappointed in the quality of their service vs what they charge. We could have bought a nice Honda blower for the cost they charge for the season and our snow removal would have been tremendously better. Even when they do come they do a poor job and have turned our parking lot/ drive way into and ice rink until it melts this summer. If I could give zero stars I would.. read more

I called and asked for a quote to restrain my deck, I got an E-Mail the following day saying they are busy and it will take a week to ten days to get the quote to me, I waited a week and E-Mailed Lorraine the office manager asking if they are busy how long after I get the quote would it take to get the job done, because if the lead time was too long I would go with a different company, she got back to me saying Eric would send me the quote that afternoon and they could do it in a few weeks. Well after waiting another five days I never got the quote!!!!! I called Lorraine and she acted like to bad. This is a case where they have a nice web site with nothing backing it up. No snow for 5 weeks, so I assume it's a reasonable time to call and ask someone at Snowtech to replace a bent piece of rebar next to the driveway - which has now scraped a couple of cars coming in and out of our drive. 3 calls and 3 weeks later, I am informed again that someone will be out. Hmmm - if I knew that this would be such an astronomical effort for a local company - I'd have saved the effort and just moved to the competition next season. Elements came to the rescue! When a local snow removal company failed us (no show) during one of the biggest storms of the year, I called Elements and they came out within 30 minutes and cleared our driveway so we could leave. I ended up hiring them to plow for the rest of the season since the other company was so unreliable. I highly recommend this well run business. Just remember, you get what you pay for... This is my 5th year using SnowTech. When I first moved to Truckee, and asked my neighbors for advice on snow removal they informed me that SnowTech and Waltman were the two main companies providing snow removal services in our neighborhood. They recommended Snowtech based on their positive experiences with the company. I haven't used Waltman and I can't say I've heard anything bad about them, but my experience with snowTech has been excellent overall. They aren't perfect, but they have done a solid job. This year has been a record snow year and these guys have been getting crushed with work. They charge a flat fee for the season and I can't imagine they will make any money this year. However, with the exception of one day, they have done a fantastic job working day and night to get people get in and out of their homes. What prompted me to write this review is an experience I had a couple of weeks ago. Snowtech had cleared my driveway sometime very late the night before as they usually do and the following morning, the town of Truckee blew a good portion of the snow from my street onto my easement road, completely blocking access to my driveway. The snow was heavy, waist deep, and there was no way I was going to get it clear with my blower (I have a very long easement road). As I walked outside, I noticed a Snowtech operator driving down my street. presumably he had been out clearing the small berms that the town pushes in front of everyone's driveways when they plow or blow the street. I stopped him to ask if he would take another pass at my driveway and easement road. With a smile, he told me that he would be back in 15 minutes to clear it. Sure enough, 10 minutes later he showed up and cleared my entire easement road, driveway, and parking pad, doing a great job and removing all the snow the town had dumped on the easement road. I thanked him profusely and tried to give him $20, which he refused to accept. For what its worth, Snowtech made a few mistakes over the years (they broke the glass on one of my outdoor lights once, which they immediately looked into and offered to replace), but snow removal in Tahoe Donner is not an easy business and they manage to do a great job with a very positive attitude. Just one final note, this year they started doing daily email updates each time they clear, which I find great. If anyone at Snowtech reads this, thanks for starting to do this. read more

These guys are the definition of arrogant monopoly! I have been a customer for 8 years (less one with Walton). They have done my driveway clearing and house staining. I went to check on the rate of a new house we bought, $900 with a very small drive compared to the last house with larger down hill drive $800. I walked in and asked the co-ower to look at my rate for the new house, we have a shared drive with 4 houses and a new house is being added and should share the cost (this after waiting 20m for him to finish a personal phone call. I proceeded to get a lecture immediately and then he said "I need to go back to work" this was literally after talking to him for 5 minutes. What the hell do you call talking to a customer of 8 years.....play. ELEMENTS are HORRIBLE, please some bring some competition to these arrogant *#@*$@*& read more
