We have worked with Second Home Care for many years to help us monitor and manage our second home in Truckee. They have been very helpful over the years making sure that our home is safe and secure. The staff are always friendly and keeps us up to date on any issues that arise. Last night, when I got notice that there was a power outage at our house, I contacted SHC because my niece was arriving very late and would have no way to get into the home. A big shout out to Jonathon, who was extremely responsive and helpful. Truckee is an expensive place to live. There are people barely making ends meet. The financial pressure drives some of these people to engage in unethical behavior. Second Home Care has been unethical with me. SHC hired a plumber who removed my water heater without my permission. This prevented me from having my home warranty pay for it. The plumber used my lack of hot water as a way to leverage money out of me. When this didn't work, the plumber, with the help of SHC, sued me in the Nevada County Superior Court! At the time, I had been a SHC customer for a number of years. Rather than helping me, they chose to help the plumber sue me for work that was done without my permission. read more

Second Home Care is a lifesaver. We have been a client for 2 years now and I cannot say enough great things about their services and care of our home in Truckee. As a second home owner it is difficult to manage all of the seasonal and day to day chores of home care from afar. We also rent our property and they assist with opening the house, closing and alerting us to anything that needs repair. One of the things that I love is their newsletter each month. They remind us what things need to be done and when. It is such a relief. Having someone that we trust, communicates well and treats us/our home like family is invaluable. I am truly puzzled by the reviews as Jennifer, Noel and their staff are awesome to say the least. Best decision we could had made in regards to purchasing our home in TD. We do not rent the house and only have a few close friends use it on occasion so it is our getaway. I'm fortunate enough that I can work from anywhere and I spend time up here (I'm typing this from the house) as much as possible and often on short notice as our other home is only 75 minutes away. In the winter, every time we ask to have the home open and ready to go, even on a few hours notice as late yesterday, the house is heated, lights on, water on and spotless (we have it cleaned every time we are up). The cleaning staff does an outstanding job as well. I run a commercial development company and have been in the business for over 35 years and deal with many property managers. It is a tough business as some owners are just impossible and unreasonable and there is nothing anyone can do about that. I can't address the negative comments about Jennifer as there are two sides to every story. However, I can tell you from my experience, they are talking about a very different person than the Jennifer I know. Simply put, SHC was an excellent decision in my book and I have not had a single negative experience but could write pages on all of the positive things they have done to help from lining up contractors to simply walking into a spotless, warm, inviting home on a cold winter night. read more

For two years we used Second Home Care ... suggest you sell your house before you use them again. Jennifer has little concept of customer service and will find as many ways as possible to tell the owner why it is their fault not hers. If anyone wants to start a competitive business they will do very well as owners will flock to avoid the Second Home Care bills which always find a way to add extra charges. read more

The team at Second Home are all fabulous. Very responsive and communicative. We have a home in Tahoe Donner that we use as well as rent. They have good processes in place for managing the various programs they run and good relationships with local tradespeople- house cleaning, snow removal, regular inspections and ongoing repair and maintenance needs, etc. I appreciate this group of had working people who help keep our home in good condition and keep us apprised of any issues. Jennifer in particular tries to accommodate all her clients needs and the rare occasion she was not able to help it was a very last minute request we made during the worst snow storm of the year - very reasonable. read more

We have a home in Truckee that we rent out to friends and via AirBnB and it became a lot of work going up, finding the right contractors to do random work (and then making sure they show up). I was pleasantly surprised to find Second Home Care and have been even more surprised by their reasonable rates, and their quality of service. Property Managers are usually out to charge a portion of your monthly income - Second Home Service charges a flat fee for them to occasionally check out your home and make sure everything is ready to go for you or your guests when you come up on the weekend. Need the heat turned up? Forgot to turn something off? Have a contractor coming by but you can't be there? SHC will take care of it for you. They are friendly and bend over backwards to make sure everything is good - they make it easier for you to enjoy your second home in Truckee. I wish I had found them earlier. Their network of contractors (cleaners, roofers, plumbers, snowplowers, etc) have special network rates - they are like a PPO Health Plan for your house. I highly recommend their service! read more

We have owned our home in Tahoe Donner for over 12 years and we both visit ourselves and rent. Second Home Care is our 4th try with a home care and cleaning business. In the past, we worked with people who are kind, but sadly not responsive or good cleaners, and we have worked (for a short time) with people who are unkind, and not responsive or good cleaners. Second Home Care has exceeded all of our wildest expectations for Truckee home care. The entire staff, and especially Jennifer, are incredibly kind and lightning quick to respond. They always go the extra mile to solve any problem. They are very good at communicating what they need to make their business work so that they can take care of everyone. We pay for inspections and they actually conduct them and report on them (that was new for us!). They call if something is out of sorts and follow through if you need help. Second Home Care finally allowed us to relax with the knowledge that our home was truly being cared for. So grateful we found them! We cannot recommend them highly enough! read more

We used SHC when we first bought our home in Tahoe Donner about seven years ago. The owner Greg is one of the kindest and nicest person you could meet and he really did bend over backwards to provide superior service. However, about a year after we started with SHC, Greg hired a manager and everything sort of went downhill from there. I think I agree with the previous review from April that this manager can come across very unaccommodating and rude, and there's been times when you feel like she is put upon and that you are inconveniencing her when you have questions or issues with their service. It was unpleasant working with this manager, but we really didn't want to stop with SHC because we knew that Greg owned the company. However, after a trying few more years, we eventually gave up and went with another home management company. If we didn't have to work with this manager, we'd go back to SHC in a heartbeat. Sometimes one bad apple really could spoil the whole bunch... read more

They were very friendly when I left my iPad at a rental, but they charged me a $45 to send it back to me, including $20 in shipping. This seems pretty ridiculous to me. I could see a small $20 fee for their time (plus the shipping fee of course), but what was I supposed to do, not get my iPad back? They know people don't have a choice, and I think they're taking advantage. read more

The woman who took over for kind Greg - the owner - is rude and horrible. Her name is Jennifer - avoid her!! We visited our vacation home once every three months and every time we asked for the house to be cleaned, we filled out a form they designed, and she still had a million issues and questions... She then called and yelled at my husband and myself. They are terrible - they take your $ and do nothing. Do NOT use them!! read more
