I was looking for Bacchus on Yelp and couldn't find it so I decided to walk around in hopes of finding it open. Bacchus name is still on top of the door so I was happy to see that they were open not realizing that I walked into a new Mexican place. Nonetheless, I decided to try this place out with the chicken mole poblano. There's nothing wrong with their food - in fact I love that they served me tortilla chips with a spicy dip, and they serve their food hot and fresh (fresh tortilla wrap was my favorite). I just think it's too expensive for what they are trying to be - I don't think they are there just yet. The chicken was $24 but I didn't think there was anything special here. A can of soda is also $4. Service isn't polished yet, but they are definitely trying! They make you feel very welcome. I just can't help but compare with Bacchus, and how put together the experience is. This restaurant is filling in big shoes, I'm confident that in time they will get there. read more

Walked in and was greeted ever so kindly. Sat at the bar. It was maybe 1215pm. Was given a menu and knew I wanted the breakfast burrito added steak to it. Great! Filling! It was cooked to perfection. And after seeing such glowing reviews we figured let's give this a try! I am baffled how this place has 4.5 stars. Maybe it's for the drinks when you are there? But, we ordered delivery. So this is purely based on the food. The chicken enchiladas were dry and just gross. The guacamole was literally just smashed old avocado. No lime flavor, no heat, nothing. And then they have the nerve to serve it with stale tortilla chips. Sad. The breakfast burrito is weak too. Also the tres leches is weird and chocolate-y. It tastes more like tiramisu. They get two stars because the food came in time and the order was correct. But I say avoid. There are many other better Mexican options around. read more

We went here for Cinco de Mayo and it was the worst experience. We made reservations via Yelp, but when we got there, we were told that we had to join the regular walk-in queue for seating. We opted for the bar as there was availability. The bartender Lu was the worst, we waited 15 minutes just place a drink order, I think he was drunk, we ordered 3 drinks, and he got all 3 drinks wrong, 2 were supposed to be Margheritas on the rocks and 1 frozen Margherita, the order was reversed 2 frozen and 1 on the rocks, but he did get the flavors correct. We ate nachos and guacamole as we waited over 50 minutes for our entrées, of tacos, enchilada, and fajita. Then they never brought the fajita, I think he didn't order it. Other patrons at the bar related similar experiences and that their bills were incorrect at the end. We eventually took the fajita to go after 1.5 hours. read more

We were looking for a place for lunch and walked passed El Zason. There were some diners eating outside and the food looked good, so we decided to try. We sat at the bar as we usually do and were taking care of by Engracia. We ordered the mole chicken enchilades and the steak nachos. Both were very good. Whenever I try a new mexican place, I always try the mole as I feel it gives me a good feel for the restaurant. The mole at El Zason was very good. Very heavy on warm spices. The guacamole on the nachos was delicious. I would come back just to order the guacamole and chips. All the ingredients were very fresh and you can tell, they were made to order. The food was all well seasoned. Engracia was warm, welcoming and a gracious hostess. I look forward to our next trip here to explore more of the menu. read more

I reviewed the takeout before (5/5) but since then I've eaten at the restaurant a few times and I can't recommend enough. This place is such a gem. The food is delicious. Enchiladas, chicken soup, tacos - all excellent. Frankly most of the Mexican restaurants around fort greene / downtown BK leave a lot to be desired so Zason is really filling a need. My wife and I were in the area to go to a Nets game at the Barclays center and wanted a walkable place to eat a quick dinner pre game. I looked in the area and I hadn't been here before so we gave it a try, I made a reservation just to be safe but it wasn't needed and we were able to sit right away. There is plenty of seating in the front but also in the back of the restaurant with a bar on the right when you first enter. They have wine, beer and mixed drinks on the menu. For food we went with the guacamole which came with chips and a salsa sauce, the guacamole was full of flavor and good, we opted for tacos which are 3 per order, I had the pork which has pineapples, my wife had the steak, while we enjoyed the tacos they we're unimpressed by them, maybe we just have high standards but they were very basic at a premium price, the service was good and they have the option to pay contactless via QR code which is always appreciated, overall this place is good but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Don't go here plz! Never got CONFRONTED and CALLED OUT by the waiter in my whole life until i went to El Zason. We asked has our food processed since we wanted to changed a dish. If food was already made we could just stick to it no problem ? The waiter said: don't complain in public it's RUDE If u wanna complain do it behind close doors. We all love Bacchus, but they have temporarily closed as Bacchus (due to reopen in April). HOWEVER, during this time they are operating as El Zason and it is fantastic! My understanding (which may be off) is while Bacchus for a while, Bruno (the generous owner of Bacchus) is allowing his staff to operate in the space so they can continue to earn income and establish their own concept. So it's a great partnership worthy of support, and we loved the food so it's not just a charity case. We had carne asada tacos and the braised spare ribs, which were so so good. I'd call it pretty refined Mexican, not just like burritos and quesadillas. So anyway, definitely check it out and support if you can. read more

Let's cut to the chase: Over priced, shrimp was bland, lacked seasoning, the small cup of guacamole was more of the consistency of "pudding" and had flavor so dunking my quesadilla in that "guacamole pudding " definitely helped with adding flavor. I want to make a note that any Authentic Mexican restaurant (and Mexican cooks) should know how and what a Quesadilla is and this picture absolutely is NOT the definition of a quesadilla and was a total mess to eat! These look like shrimp tacos drenched in cheese. I will not recommend this place to anyone and for the sake of Mexican Culture, get NEW MANAGEMENT. Please stop having these fake restaurants depict a certain cuisine of a country and it's completely unsatisfactory. The plus side is that it's a grade A. Really beautiful place with great service and amazing food. We had the steak tacos and the enchiladas verdes. The steak was perfectly cooked with great flavor and the verde sauce was one of the best. Their Mexican hot chocolate wasn't made with milk which made me think I wouldn't like it but it was really well balanced and not too sweet (and came in the prettiest mug).
