An absolute clown show from beginning to end. I ordered from El Verno through Postmates. When the driver arrived, the restaurant claimed another driver had already picked up my order. Fascinating, considering the food was never delivered to me. By the time this mystery was discovered, El Verno was closed and the order couldn't be remade. No food. No explanation. No solution. Postmates customer service and the driver were both completely useless and incompetent. Nobody seemed capable of fixing the problem, canceling the order, or even explaining what happened. What should have been a simple food order turned into a ridiculous mess of finger-pointing, confusion, and zero accountability. If losing a customer's order and leaving them to sort out the mess is the goal, congratulations. Mission accomplished. read more

We didn't have a reservation but were seated outside fairly quickly--right on the street, which wasn't ideal but worked out fine. The service was friendly and attentive throughout. Note: they did charge for water. The food was solid. The fish tacos were tasty but came as just two small tacos, so the portion felt a bit underwhelming for the price. The sweet potato side was also flavorful and well-prepared. Street parking was available nearby, which was convenient. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and it's clearly a popular spot in Southampton--worth visiting, especially if you can get a table indoors. read more

SO OVERPRICED for BASIC fake Mexican food. Two low quality bland fish tacos are 36USD. Small guacamole is 28USD. I know it's the Hamptons but real classic restaurants out here serving exquisite food are similarly priced. Stay true to the classics and SKIP this tourist trap. This does not compare and honestly it's an insult to real Mexican cuisine. Don't get me wrong, the food was edible but simply does not demand the high prices. Any Mexican food truck is better than this place. Ambiance is nice but it all feels bought from Temu and Benjamin Moore paint on sale. I love supporting new restaurants and businesses when they are inventive, have great service, and add value to the fabric of the location. This place disappoints. The service was excellent, the food really good. We enjoyed the rib eye tacos and fluke tacos. The elote with truffle and the octopus was yummy. For cocktails, get the chefs margarita....soo good. Chris, the manager, is very friendly and our waitress was always smiling and very accommodating. Probably some of the best service we have had in the Hamptons. Slow service, $40 for a tiny, practically appetizer-sized portion of enchiladas. Disappointing.

We had very high hopes when choosing to dine for lunch at El Verano. The ambiance is lovely. The restaurant falls way short on food. I ordered a burrito which was $40!!!!! As an accompaniment there was a smattering of potato chips , yes potato chips on my plate. I know this is Southampton and expect restaurants to be a bit expensive but I felt taken advantage of!!!!!! My friend had 2 small fish tacos for $38!!!! No wonder the restaurant was empty. The food was ordinary at best. I do not recommend this place at all. What I do recommend is that the owner/chef take a look at their business model and make some adjustments. If they don't they will not last a season. We both took a good look around at the restaurant because we will never go back. read more

What a great location and the food was good! now for the rest....the service was horrible! condescending wait staff all around. As our server stood at our table the ac vent dripped condensation into our drinks. Without any acknowledgement we asked if he could replace it. His response, it's just condensation but let me change it for you...in a snide, passive way as if he'd be ok drinking that? When we asked if we could switch tables as it was clear the dripping would continue, they said let me see if it's possible. The restaurant was half empty. As we waited 15 min to switch tables, someone else came with a squeegee on a long stick and wiped the grate above our table....with dust, debris, and water coming onto our table. not even an acknowledgment. Once we switched tables and our food came, we asked if one of the entrees could be made mild instead of burn your brains off spicy. Yes, it's a Mexican restaurant but no where did it indicate spicy salsa. When we asked, the response, well this is a Mexican restaurant out loud, in a snide way. The food was tasty. Terrible service by waiter Jose L. Not once that waiter looked at us in the eye. He did not greet us upon approaching our table nor he ever came back to the table to check if we needed anything. We felt that we should apologize for our presence and for ordering our food. We had to flag him in order to get another round of drinks. This restaurant is charging prices that are at par with a Michelin star restaurant except that is not. For the price of such an expensive dinner this restaurant should have at least better trained staff that would at least be polite. He brought the check without saying a word, nor he looked at us and then expected a 25% tip. What an unpleasant experience. read more

My husband took me here for my birthday. The restaurant was PACKED for a Tuesday night in August. The servers were prompt and polite, and very attentive. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. My one caveat was the portions were small for the prices. $40 enchiladas, $22 margaritas is very expensive. If they reduced prices a bit, they could increase their local following instead if being a resort restaurant for non-locals and fancy tourists. read more

Not great. We're locals and we've eaten at this place several times since it opened, and it just seems to decline with every passing year. They had outdoor tables on the first warm night of the season which happened to be the summer solstice, so I decided to give it a shot. At baseline this place is pricey. While the food is delicious, it feels pretty absurd to pay $40 for enchiladas, but it's the Hamptons, so whatever. Eating inside will just damage your hearing as well as your sanity because the acoustics are so terrible and this place is LOUD. But they do have nice outdoor seating on a primo corner of Southampton....or so I thought. We were seated at an outdoor table on the end, near the rear kitchen/parking lot entry. I noticed a hose with a constant trickle overflowing the sidewalk in what was obviously an illegal plumbing setup. Halfway into our meal I started smelling the sewer belching eruptions of noxious gas that continued for the remainder of the evening. I went into the bathroom, and sure enough, the toilet belched gratuitously....this place has a serious plumbing issue which is probably related to the system capacity not being able to keep up with the number of people packed into this place in the summer. The smell is a pretty gross accoutrement to a very expensive Mexican dinner. But none of that was the fatal flaw to this meal. What made me unlikely to return anytime soon was the attitude of the waitstaff, or more accurately, the absence of polish. Including drinks this place is about $100/person, and for the tip that accompanies a big check like that I expect waitstaff with the personality to serve up a nice experience. While the service was prompt initially, the restaurant was busy, and it was long after we'd finished our entrée that the second round of drinks arrived, 25 minutes after we'd requested them. There was also no check-in during our meal like "how is everything, can I get you anything else", etc. Again, I understand busy during the high season in a restaurant and am able to excuse a great deal. But, I had to flag José L to get a check as we sat enduring the nonstop sewer belches. He put the check down without any sort of visual regard, or thank you. Then I had flag him to process the card, which again he did without any "thank you" or "come again", or "I hope you enjoyed everything". The waitstaff here are pretty much just glorified kitchen runners, and frankly, the staff in the McDonald's drive-thru are trained to have more personality and better manners. I've been married to a Puerto Rican for 32 years and so this isn't a language or cultural barrier issues, this is purely a social class and training issue. If I'm adding a 20-25% tip to a big check, I expect the service to measure up. This place doesn't. Between the gross stench and annoyance at the waiter, I found myself once again regretting coming here. read more

Checked out this restaurant for a Valentines dinner , and it was exceptional. We kind of ordered way too much so that we could try a little bit of everything , and it was alllll so delicious. The staff was very warm and attentive , and gave you a feel that you were "at home". The new decor and ambiance was very peaceful and relaxing. First, the waiter did not know anything about tequila, because he does not like it. It's a Mexican restaurant so need a better answer than that. The frozen margarita was not frozen. The clam appetizer did not have clams. They charged $30 for basically breadcrumbs and a few pieces of chorizo. You should try the dish at Rita's Cantina. They do it right.
