Refined Dining with Just a Few Misses at Dopo Argento, Southampton Patrizia and I visited Dopo Argento in Southampton for a Sunday afternoon meal around 1 pm. The restaurant wasn't crowded, which made for a calm and enjoyable atmosphere. Starters: We ordered the sourdough bread service (not complimentary), which came with a hummus dip. The bread had a rustic, brick-oven style crust--crispy outside, soft inside--and paired nicely with our appetizer. We then split the Tuna Tartare, which was delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. That said, it was served on its own with no chips or crostini, so we ended up using the bread we had ordered. A small touch that would make a big difference. Mains: Patrizia had the Salmon Oreganata. The portion was generous and cooked very well, but it arrived solo on the plate without any sides. We both felt it would shine more with a vegetable or starch--something like spinach, asparagus, or potato. I chose the Paccheri Cacio e Pepe, which was excellent. The pasta was fresh, perfectly al dente, and the sauce had just the right balance of richness and peppery bite. Drinks & Service: We started with two cocktails, then shared a crisp bottle of Italian sparkling water with our meal. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive, adding to the experience. Dessert & Coffee: We finished with the Tiramisu, which was light, fluffy, and not overly sweet, alongside a cappuccino--a perfect close. Overall: Our total came to about $235 for two, and we left a generous tip for the excellent service. We chose to sit indoors since it was too humid outside, but both options are available. We're giving 4 stars because of minor blemishes--the salmon plated all alone, and the tuna tartare lacking an accompaniment. Still, the food was excellent, the vibe relaxed, and the service top-notch. Definitely worth a visit--check it out before the summer ends and see for yourself!. read more

I know we are in The Hampton's but the staff seemed very snobby. $11 for a glass of iced tea that was 75% ice and no refills. $17 for a tiny bowl of French fries. The rest of the meal was ok, nothing special and definitely not worth the cost. I live in Los Angeles and dine in Beverly Hills quite frequently and have never had an experience like this. read more

In the Hamptons for the weekend and decided to grab dinner here with a friend.. sadly we had higher hopes. We started with cocktails - had a mule at first which was not good at all. We asked for another drink and thankfully it was was sufficient. The bread we had was a bit on the burnt side and comes with a hummus that doesn't really compliment each other. We then had the ravioli and the linguine that didn't have the flavors that we expected. The food was cold, ingredients were not fresh, and lacked lots of flavor. Argento is a really great spot to come for an intimate dinner with a group of 2-4 people, the space is pretty tight for groups larger than that, and they have ample bar space if you're just trying to have some bites and drinks with people. Had a dinner reservation at 7:30 on a Monday and this place was packed, we got the last available table, and again it was super tight to get in and out of the table. Highly recommend having a reservation. The waiter was very friendly and professional, helping us pick what we wanted from the pre fix menu. Which is probably why the place was packed. It's an app and a main for $39 and a glass of wine added to it for $10 I got Burrata which came with Peppers and Anchovies and one piece of bread, and then a Skirt Steak with Chimchurri, both were delicious. Dinner for 3 in the Hamptons for $170 after tax is pretty good, even in the offseason. I recommend for a nice dinner out, 5 stars. read more

Tale of two meals. On July 1rst, I had a wonderful meal. My salad, short rib ravioli, bread service and sautéed spinach were all excellent. The chef-owner was at the restaurant. On July 8th, I did not notice the chef at the restaurant and the food was mediocre at best. The oysters were good on the 8th but the server forgot spoons for the sauces and forgot the oyster fork (oysters were not properly shucked so fork was needed). The bread the week before was warm, fresh and delicious and served along side a delicious and creamy (whipped chickpea dip?) dip. On the 8th the bread was cold and not fresh, and the dip was as if someone without the recipe or proper ability tried to recreate the dip from the week before. While the short rib ravioli on the 1rst were beautifully made (even the edges were not thick or hard) and delicious and sauced lightly and to perfection, the PACCHERI CACIO E PEPE on the 8th were served undercooked (I know how al dente should be - this was hard and inedible). I sent it back and it came back properly al dente but I wonder if they put it in the microwave because the butter cheese sauce was broken and overpowering, and the roasted beef carpaccio tasted overcooked and microwaved. It has so much potential and I hope they become more consistent. read more

Negative bang for the buck Very well prepared food with detailed oriented staff but the kitchen is so stingy it is ridiculous. For my $55 salmon entree, they gave me 1/6 pound of salmon...roughly a half portion....which cost them less than $5. Not sure why they are so cheap about it. read more

As my wife and I walked in we were greeted with smiles. This spot is super romantic. We were shown to our seats and the italian accents we heard made everything feel like we were off to a great start. Our waiter was not pushy at all. We glanced at the menu and immediately ordered the bread basket. We shared some apps and we each got an entree. What I loved most about this restaurant is the waiter didn't change his tune when we didn't order any alcoholic beverages. I'm in recovery and my wife is pregnant and sometimes, well most of the time , the waiters change when they notice there check isent going to be big and the tip won't be big. We always tip 35% and this service was spot on. read more

Truly a surprisingly great food place. My wife and I were skeptical giving its a very high traffic/tourist main road in South Hampton. We ordered salmon and a complete Bronzino (also head and all). Both cooked to perfection and to exact specs of our request(i.e salmon was requested very rare). I would have given five stars but to be honest, we got there at 11:54am. While I understand they open at 12noon(I.e 6 minutes later, we asked if we could just be seated and we understand we will not be served for the 6 minutes. They denied our ask. A bit much I think given 6 minutes. Nonetheless, we were glad we didn't go to another establishment up the road. read more

Unsure why this place is only 4 stars! My husband and I live in the city and were in Southampton for a week in the off season. We tried this on a Monday night for dinner and couldn't have been more pleased with the food & service. Living in NYC we have access to some of the best Italian food and this measures up to our favorites in the city. The night we were there they were doing a prix fixe for ~$40ish that included two courses and a glass of wine! We didn't get it because we wanted things that weren't on that menu. But it was a great deal nonetheless. My husband got the bolognese & I got the crab pasta. Both were incredible! We got the cheesecake for dessert which was very light & authentic. We will definitely be back when we're out east again! read more

The service is very bad. When the server brings us the appetizer he didn't bring the plates. After we ask him to bring as the water , the bread. For everything we Ask him to bring as the stuff because he didn't bring us. And before we finish the dinner he bring us the check before he tell us that the kitchen is close. The menu here is incredible and the service is unparalleled. Salmon was cooked to perfection along side a well dressed chopped salad. Loved the steak here as well. Cocktail menu is extensive and carefully curated. Definitely would recommend if you are staying in the Hamptons. read more

Friends in from NYC/Arizona for an evening. Decided to check out Argento as we've never been. Not busy, so nice and quiet. Price fix was a hit. I like pasta, so had the ziti special offered. I also like my pasta aldente. Chef was in a hurry, as the ziti was chewy. I liked it, but one of our guests was not thrilled. (Small issue!). All in all, a pleasant experience. Wife's friend to be in this week, & we will take her here. Good luck to this owner. Nice addition to the village. read more

Sad to say this was a very poor experience. These people must have spent a great deal of money to open this restaurant, unfortunately it isn't very good at all.. The wine and cocktails were fine. The appetiser & Caesar salad. The salad was a plate full of lettuce with one anchovy thrown top and cheese that is not Caesar salad. The shrimp scallop appetiser was OK. We ordered pasta with bolanaise Source. The source could have come out of any chef boy RD can, No flavour at all. the cheese on top, I don't know what kind of cheese it was, no flavour. Italian food should grab your tastebuds. This was no such thing. this isn't where I go for Italian food ever again. read more

Excellent/ Very good. The winter prix fixe menu is an excellent offer with a broad selection. There are also wine specials to go along with it. Best restaurant in Southampton by all measures. It's one of a few places left where prices match quality. Everything on the menu is superb--from the chicken that can make chicken skeptics smile, to traditional pastas (generous in size and flavor, to craft cocktails and special pastas filled with local seafood. Really outstanding. And the interior and back patios are beautiful. My only criticism is the choice and volume of music. Patrons are not young 20-something's clubbing in Ibiza so not sure why EDM makes sense for a restaurant this good. At a minimum, the inside is pretty loud so would be great to turn the volume down a little so you can hear your fellow guest without shouting! But food makes up for it! read more

Showed up here for a late lunch with a couple friends after enjoying the beach & was bitterly disappointed. We started off with the host telling us to sit anywhere we like and then the gentlemen behind the bar sprinting after us like pigeons had flow in - wondering if we were staying for lunch or dinner. I was a bit perplexed with the question - did he wonder if we were staying for breakfast? Then he proceeded to tell us we needed to check in with the host. So it was right off the bat not a very hospitable experience. Talk about trying to cool down then after the beach - it felt like the place was running on less than 5,000 BTU AC. Not even an iced cold drink could cool ya down. I ordered the artichoke salad - was pretty average and then I ordered a gluten free pasta - as I am not a sauce person - I was hoping they can make a lemony pasta - the pasta came with all the olive oil at the bottom - plopped down pasta and lemons on the side as if I just ordered a shrimp cocktail. Our waitress was pleasant. No one though had come over to offer us fresh pepper on our salad or pasta or offered us a refill on our drinks. After such a rocky entrance- one would have thought they would have comped us for our drinks for the distasteful seating situation. This place seemed to have gotten good reviews- and perhaps our lunch reservation was between shifts - it appeared the place didn't have the stamina or passion in food service to maintain the hours they are opened. Overall give this place a 1 star - but would give it a zero. Food was subpar and hospitality was pitiful. Save your money and time by not going here if you are looking for a pleasant afternoon. read more
