Wow was I surprised as the high quality of the food. We shared devil eggs, the sticky dry fried ribs and a salad. Oh my was it an epicurean delight. The food was served timely and tasty. The servers were kind and knowledgeable recommending the menus specialities and I was not disappointed. The drinks were above board and mixed to perfection. This is another San Leandro hidden jewel. The atmosphere was so inviting. Warm and calm, whether you were seated inside or out, you felt comfortable. There was nothing on the menus I would not recommend and the portions are not skimpy. I recommend you order different items so you can share and sample many of the items on the menu. Given the economic climate, the prices are reasonable. I enjoyed my dining experience so much, my husband and I went there 3 days later and was not disappointed and he is somewhat selective. Those I have recommended this restaurant to, have enjoyed their experience also. I highly recommend you try it out and put it on your list of regular favorites. Bon appetite!

So fresh with the slightest hint of sweetness. The mushroom and yam fritters sitting on top of mint chutney completely blew me away. Such a unique and delicious combination! The oxtail with grits was another standout. A generous, hearty portion with such rich, deep flavors, absolutely delicious and very satisfying. For drinks, we had the Vietnamese iced coffee and the egg custard coffee, which wasn't overly sweet. The egg custard on top was light, fluffy, and delicious. 10/10 recommend! The service was great! Can't wait to come back and try the dinner menu.

We were completely ignored for 30 minutes after being seated; my husband finally had to flag down a staff member just to get our initial drink order taken. Our drinks didn't arrive until 8:20 PM, at which point we were abruptly told that the kitchen was closing soon. Because we were not informed of this early closing time when we booked our 7:30 PM reservation, we felt rushed and pressured to order immediately. To make matters worse, they forgot my fish order entirely. When I brought it to the waiter's attention, the meal I received ended up making me sick. Between the appalling service and the food quality issues, we feel like we threw away over $700. We will never be returning.

The energy was incredible, and you could really feel how excited everyone was to be there cheering on the team. One thing I really liked was that instead of having one giant screen, they had multiple TVs throughout the bar, making it easy to catch the game no matter where you were sitting. There was also a DJ keeping the crowd energized, playing music and hyping everyone up during the match, which added so much to the atmosphere. The bar itself was really nice, and I was honestly pleasantly surprised by how great the overall vibe was. They have a taqueria inside and even though I didn't eat on this visit, the food I saw coming out to nearby tables looked delicious, and several dishes definitely caught my eye. I'll definitely be back to try the food for myself and will update my review afterward. A heads-up that the parking lot is a little small, but there is plenty of street parking nearby, so it wasn't a problem. The space itself isn't huge, but that's part of what made the atmosphere feel lively, energetic, and welcoming. If you're looking for a great place to watch a big game, enjoy a fun crowd, and soak up an exciting sports-bar atmosphere, Frank's Sports Bar & Grill is definitely worth checking out!

Personally, this bar wouldn't make my top 50 list, but for some crazy reason they're loyal to it, so I show up for them. Recently, I've popped in a bit more and wow, the "changes." They finally made an Instagram, which got me excited for a second--maybe they were stepping it up. Nope. Just like everything else here, it's inconsistent. They post food specials, I come in ready to spend money, and... no food. Overheard it was a management issue. Shocking. Then there's the alcohol selection--or lack thereof. I'm not even a big drinker, and I have a better bar setup at home. Half the time they're out of basics, or waiting on the owner to maybe, someday, bring more. Call yourself a bar? More like BYOB and hope for the best. I'll give credit where it's due: I've met some cool people here, and they're the only thing keeping this place alive. But even they seem tired of the chaos. I heard this is the oldest bar in San Leandro, and honestly, I'm amazed it's still standing. Must be sheer luck or nostalgia, because it's definitely not management. Two stars because I don't hate the regulars--but let's be real, if this place wants to survive, it needs way more than an Instagram and a prayer.

It's a bit unassuming from the outside, but the interior is, though small, packed with seating and warm. The menu boasts a lot of classic Korean dishes ranging from kimchi fried rice to tteokbokki to tofu soup! There is a decent variety of alcohol as well, though I didn't try much of it. I really enjoyed my meal here with my friend; it wasn't too busy, and the staff member working was extremely attentive and friendly. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and it was quite good. The spice of the food was at a great level and paired well with the alcohol, and the portion sizes are great for the price, though I do think value varies by item. If you're looking for somewhere to have a fun, relaxing time with good food, this is the spot! It's not located in a good spot for a bar crawl, but if you're just looking for an evening spot, I definitely recommend checking this spot out.

Let me start off by saying, whenever possible I do my best to patronize mom and pop family-owned…read morebusinesses. By doing so I've found the food and service to be of a much higher quality. With that being said, El Portal has popped up on my feed a couple times the last couple weeks. Prompting me to save it as a potential future visit. So glad I did! Because I was NOT disappointed! Most small businesses that attempt a buffet only put out a few items, use tiny plates and charge a high price for a few low-cost items. Honestly that is not the case here, El Portal does not disappoint. The variety of dishes blew me away from fruit, salad, rice, beans, ceviche, 2 egg dishes, veggies and shrimp, veggies and fries, barbacoa, French fries and nuggets for the kids, Enchiladas, Menudo and so much more... I could go on about how great the food was. But let me just back up a bit. When I arrived at the strip mall at the foot of Lewelling Blvd., the lot was packed. Once I found a parking place, I made my way to the restaurant. It was around noonish when I got there. There was a short line at the door and a note pad on the server's kiosk. When the server came out, he called out a name off the note pad and escorted the party to their table. When he returned, he asked those in line to write down their name and number of people in the party. (Definitely do not forget to put your man on the note pad!) When my name was called, I was given the choice of patio or inside dining. I chose the Patio and was promptly shown my table. I probably could have ordered one of the awesome looking Aqua Fresca's, but decided on plain water. Wow was I surprised when the waiter brought over what appeared to be a 36 once frosty cold mug of ice water, definitely not some little cup with a couple ice cubes and warm tap water. When I walked into the restaurant, I was overwhelmed by the verity and quantity of food choices. I looked around for a stack of small plates, when I didn't see any, I asked a severer where the plates were, she pointed to a stack of Platters. Wow! They were huge, they looked like 16" platters to me. I wanted to try as many different items as possible, I soon realized just how small my big platter was. At the end of the buffet line, I went to open the container marked tortillas, and standing there was a lovely lady holding a tray of hot fresh tortillas right off the grill (how awesome is that?). If you're wondering, yes! I had to return to the buffet at least one more time. The Staff... What can I say? They were absolutely AWESOME! They were friendly, helpful and had smiles on their faces, they attended to the customers needs in a timely manner. The staff definitely deserve a full 5 stars for the job they do. I would also like to say thank you to the family that was behind me in line, they offered suggestions on items to try, which I definitely tried and enjoyed. Thank you so much for being so kind and taking time to chat. One of the things that sold me on El Portal was the flavors of the dishes especially the rice and beans. They brought back childhood memories of my favorite Mexican restaurant in Alameda (If you know, you know!) that unfortunately closed after the family sold the business. Sadly, the current incarnation just doesn't compare. I'm definitely going back in the near future to attempt yet another Big Back attack on the buffet, hope to see y'all there.
