Finally getting back on US Soil from Vietnam after a 24 hour travel day, I was being selective with…read morewhat my first meal would be. You only get one first meal back from a big trip, and I desperately needed something different than rice noodles, fish sauce, and pork that had been flooding my stomach and arteries for the past 2 weeks. After getting in my first workout in what felt like a year, I walked out the Bond Street Equinox hungrier than a 2008 Kobe Bryant. It was right at this point that the smell of freshly grilled chicken graced my nostrils, along with the faint sound of Reggae hitting my ears. I whipped my head to the right and looked to the corner of Great Jones and Broadway, and there was a little canopy with a Jamaican guy cooking up some chicken on one of those huge barrel charcoal grills just vibing to some Reggae. I walked over and there was a concise menu and the name of the restaurant, "Simply Natural Grill House." Like an ark in a flood, god sent me Simply Natural Grill House. I saw the chicken falling off the bone as he cut it with a butcher knife, so I had no choice but to order a small jerk chicken plate platter ($13.99) that came with rice & peas, sweet plantains, and coleslaw. With a big smile on his face, he handed me the box and said "With love bradda." Vibes are so good here. How juicy, tender, and seasoned this chicken was needs to be studied. Damn I'm craving it again just thinking about it... The best Jamaican food I have had in NYC, although I'm not a Jamaican food connoisseur to be fair... Not yet. They are at this location (684 Broadway) Wednesday - Sunday between 11am and 7pm. You gotta get here if you can. It's spiritual. YAAD MAN STYLE!! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

Can't really complain at $5 for a chicken plate, its probably the top 5 halal carts I've had in NYC and probably one of the healthiest too. The owner is very friendly too!

The Halal guy is very friendly with everyone in the neighborhood it seems. A woman walked up behind me and said hello to him. I just turned around and looked at her cause I heard a voice. She confronted me and said, "Why did you look at me cause I said hello to him? You have a problem with me saying hello to him." I said to her, "I don't know you or him or give a f*ck about you or him. I don't care who you speak to . I just turned cause I heard a voice." The Halal guy then asked her if she wanted something and she said in disgust, "No not now." When she left he said to me, "That was my friend. What is your problem?" I said, "I don't know you or her. Why is she confronting me like that?!?!" I got my food and left. Let me add another guy is usually there who is very nice, polite and doesn't get involved in drama. But I probably won't get food there again. Don't feel like fighting with the ladies over the Halal guy.

The soup was deliciously savory and packed full of flavor. BBQ Wings - 7/10 These wings were super juicy and the BBQ sauce was tangy and sweet. Tater Tots - 6/10 Typical tater tots, nothing outstanding but still a good snack. Great place to catch up with friends after work. Happy hour drinks are reasonably priced and the Grilled Cheese Alley offers good food!

The B.O.T. sandwich was decent, but the bread definitely needed to be toasted. The macaroni and cheese looked pretty good, but was fairly under-seasoned, unfortunately. The total came to approximately $17, which I feel is a little high for the size of the portions I was given. If the portion sizes are going to be on the smaller side of things, they've at least got to be made correctly and properly seasoned. Some of their other grilled cheese items look pretty good, so maybe I'd give them another try - but definitely not for a little while. I had higher hopes for this place. The main consolation is that their hours of operation are pretty good. They're open fairly late and they deliver - two things most places in the area cannot say they have. Props.

Overall, I'd say that Bark Barbecue is one of the better food spots in all of Dumbo, though still not mindblowing. I went several times at peak dinner service (30+ min wait) and the meat was soft, melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, and incredible, but I went again around 6pm before peak dinner service (no line, yay!) and noticed the pulled pork was very dry and not as piping hot - definitely had been left out under the heat lamps for a while before I received my order. Pros and cons of the timing, I suppose! Love their BBQ sauce. Drenching the meat is my favorite part. Busy spot in Timeout Market but is always my personal must try if I MUST eat in Dumbo.

Brisket was so tender, and I loved getting a piece with both fatty and lean parts. 7.5/10. I tried my friend's chopped chicharron & brisket sandwich, and the chicharron was sooo crispy without tasting greasy. 8/10. Tres Golpes was great when everything was eaten together. The pulled pork itself wasn't anything special, but the sandwich was nice and juicy and loved how the plantain made it sweet. 7/10. Mac & cheese was super cheesy and flavorful, but the texture was way too soft for me. There was even some unmelted cheese that you could mix in. 4/10.
