Searching madly for something different for dinner, we hit on Mexican. Milford has no Mexican food, so we had to head to Middletown, and I think this place was fairly decent.It wasn't the standard order by numbers place, but might have seemed like it from appearances. They did have a good selection of more unusual dishes, like some decent mole and carne adobada, both of which we sampled, and they were good. Not spectacular, but a nice change from the norm. I don't know if we would be back - there have got to be other places to try, but all in all, this is above the norm for a cheap Mexican fix. read more

Great guacamole topping a shrimp filled burrito, with delicious rice and beans on the side. After reading various reviews, I had to give it a try! And I was thoroughly disappointed. Tacos were dry and had no flavor to them. Rice and beans had an odd taste! I gave it a three because the nachos were amazing and the burritos are huge. But don't expect to know what you paid for. Cheap prices somehow don't actually apply at the register. We love this place. We stop in during our ride from NYC to our Catskill home in Sullivan County. It is a real whole in the wall but the food is great and authenic. We love the shirmp in green salsa, chicken enchilla suiza and pork burrito. The owner is really a nice guys and takes good care of us. I crown thee, tied for best Mexican Food in Orange County. It is very good, as good as Juarez Restaurant in Newburgh. Searching for "Authentic Mexican" the family had grown tired of the cookie cutter local Mexican restaurants Bandido, Hacienda, Azteca, they all have the same menus! Albeit with slight variations in flavor. Tapatio is a fantastic taqueria, you can drink horchata, or agua de jamaica. You order a Chicken Chimi, and it is stuffed with chicken, no fillers, like rice and beans. Reminds me of Mexican you get in California!!! Will definitely return to try other menu items... read more

Boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick bite during our road trip. The restaurant was empty with the exception of a young girl sitting at a booth, the server's daughter or sister maybe; I think the place is family owned. Boyfriend ordered chorizo tacos and pretty much inhaled them, he loved them. I ordered the fish soup, and it was delicious! I added a little hot sauce for extra heat. This is not one of those loud and gaudy Mexican Restaurants. The food was very good. The service was fast and friendly. I had the BBQ pork, beef and Mexican sausage tacos. YUMMY. Delicious and authentic!!! There is a restaurant nearby that has more than deserved fame:pretty, but not authentic,and too crowded. Tapatio is like our little secret spot (at least till now). It's diner like in it's simplistic decore, but the food is as authentic as they get in Middletown. My husband and I go at least once a wk. Highly recommend if you want REAL Mexican food. Food was ok, the waitress was extremely rude, as was the owner. She gave us nasty looks as we were ordering and didn't smile once. She might receive the award for the rudest waitress I've ever had. We received the check where there was no prices of the items we ordered, as the total looked a little high for what we ordered. Should've came out to about 22$. I was charged 32$. I asked how they came up with this number and they said it was tax and gratuities.. 10$ tax and tip? Doesn't sound right. Then he threatened to charge for the wrong order they brought out to us. Went to go to bandido but the wait was insane. So we came here and when you walk in you can tell it definitely used to be a chinese take out restaurant. El Tapatio is my favorite authentic mexican restaurant in Orange County! The food is sooo good and it's traditional style. I like that they don't overload the food with cheese and/or sauce like other restaurants in the area. You know it's authentic and good when there are always mexican locals in there dining. The food is homemade and always consistent. The staff is family-oriented and always friendly. Antonio, the owner, always treats us like family and makes sure we are taken care of. Fast service and everything is made to order. I highly recommend the cactus salad, fresh made guacamole, chicken flautas and the shredded beef "hard" tacos. Their green sauce (tomatillo sauce) is dynamite! They also have a mexican jukebox that adds to the atmosphere. :) read more

This restaurant is close to home. I tried it once and the meat wasn't all that great. It tasted hours or even days old. Since I am a huge fan of Mexican food, I gave it another shot months later. Same problem. I gave it a third shot and still the same thing. I guess three strikes and you're out. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever. read more
