This actually a good surprise. Small place and very unassuming. Someone recommended the carne asada. So I tried the carne asada and baracoa tacos. The carne asada was excellent, the baracoa was pretty good just not on the same level. The salsas were also good with the right amount of heat. A good little place to go for lunch.

Some of the best food for so cheap! I always get the Carne Asada tacos with everything on the side ! They usually add too much onion in cilantro so I adjust to what I like , Cilantro! This time I just got the Carne Asada dinner and they gave me lots of Carne Asada!

Brought some carne asada nachos and found a hair in it. Super disgusting. This place has really gone down hill. Used to be one of my favorites now everything is expensive about $4 a taco. Spent $12 on nachos just to find a hair in it.

No no no no NO! I thought after taking my lunch partner to the best authentic Mexican around, I could trust he had something amazing in mind as he had eaten here multiple times (but for breakfast only). There were 3 people ahead and you order at the counter. Seat yourself and wait. There was a salsa bar right in front of the bathroom I personally would have put my "fresh" salsa in another area. I ordered steak nachos. Cost was close to $20.00 which is expected but when I pay $20.00 for a lunch I'd like for it to taste good. Cheese dip...what is that was the vibe I got as soon as I picked up my plate. If you view the picture, all the toppings need to be cut. That isn't a big deal when utensils are absolutely necessary to cut. However we are talking nachos here!! So get me another paper plate so I can cut everything and disperse it throughout the nachos. Nothing could save these things. The steak had zero flavor, the chips tasted stale as did the veggies. There was no creaminess such as cheese dip to hide the flavorless mess in front of me. I literally took maybe 6-8 bites and was done. I'm sorry. Maybe I caught them on a bad day however it was so bad I will never return.

If you are expecting "Tax-Mex" keep on driving and hit the nearby Taco Bell, but if you are looking for quick service, authentic, tasty and well-priced Mexican food then El Taco Veloz welcomes you! Quick recap of who they are...If you have been around Atlanta for some time, you have probably seen their other locations around the city as they are small chain of quick service/fast food like Mexican joints offering the staples we all know and love. This particular spot is on South Cobb Drive near Windy Hill in Smyrna and being that I am now only a mile from here...this is my favorite El Taco Veloz! I promise it's a favorite due to more than the location, so let me elaborate! Location/Parking - As mentioned above, they are located directly on South Cobb Drive, so you can't miss them! Parking is limited to say the least, but they do have spaces on both sides of the building - but again, limited is to be noted! Service/Layout - It's set up like a fast food place, which truth be told I believe it what it actually used to be...so, the layout makes perfect sense. Overall, it is functional with the dining room being divided by the salsa bar. They have plenty of seating and I have never had an issue with the flow from ordering to salsa bar to table to door. Additionally, if you don't feel like getting out of your car to grab a taco, swing through their drive-thru! Price - More than reasonable and borderline cheap with nothing on the menu being over $9.00. So, with tacos ranging from $1.99 to $2.50, nachos around $7.00 - $8.00, burritos under $7.00 and all other items priced great for the quality and amount you get, I would say they get a high mark on price for sure! Food - Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas, Oh my!! This place has all the standard issue Mexican favorites from the aforementioned to tortas, flautas, desserts and even breakfast items! The way they differentiate themselves and stay true to authentic Mexican cuisine is by offering more options for what you can put in your vessel of choice! In addition to chicken and steak, they offer beef tongue, chorizo, barbacoa, breaded steak and a few other tasty meats! Knowing we all love our tacos, this place does them up right! They serve them up "street style" which usually features double stacked corn tortillas, meat, cilantro and light sauce. You can add cheese and such if you'd like, but the simplistic nature of these tacos is fantastic! If salsa is your thing, I probably piqued your interest earlier with the salsa bar comment! They do have a small salsa and toppings bar that features a few varieties of salsa (red and green), raw white onion, jalapenos, pico and cilantro - this allows you to dress up your meal any way your heart desires! I will provide a small warning here, sample the salsas before dowsing your food in it. I learned the hard way when I turned my nachos into a small inferno! In addition to tacos, I am a massive nacho lover, so majority of the time I visit I always order the Barbacoa (shredded beef) nachos along with a chorizo taco. The nachos are served in a simplistic nature, just like most of the items on the menu. I really enjoy this, as it lets the meat shine and lead the flavor charge of the dish! I always follow suit and only add sour cream, onions and jalapenos to the nachos that feature meat and cheese. The chorizo taco is phenomenal and has a great kick to it! So many times I have seen chorizo on a menu and it was disappointing with texture and temp, but not here! This particular taco is the meat, onion and cilantro and is perfection in taco form. Overall, I am a fan of El Taco Veloz! The only less than positive thing I will say is that while the dingy and outdated decor can add to the place for some, to others it can be a little off putting...which is what it does more so than not here. I mean, its not enough to keep me from going, but I do welcome the day I visit and they have made some updates! Until then, I will continue to enjoy my nachos and tacos!

I love that El Taco Veloz open as early as 7 am. That means I could come even earlier. I prefer taking early lunches, mainly to avoid the lunch crowd. Something about that Friday lunch rush that I hate. It's a fast food environment. The menu has more than I thought. I opted to get churros crema, chicken tao, chicken torta, and pineapple agua fresca. The food didn't take long to come out. We sat at the booths and got some sauces from the salsa bar. The chicken taco is delicious. I tried different types of sauces but my fave is the really spicy one. I added more jalapeno. It's so delicious. I loved the warm corn tortilla. As for the chicken torta, it was just okay. Nothing I would rave about. It's HUGE though. The pineapple agua fresca is really good. Loved it. It isn't overly sweet either and has a nice texture, it wasn't too thick either. The churro is the star. Very delicious, crunchy, and have the right amount of sweetness. Highly recommend. I would definitely come back. While we were getting ready to go. My co-worker so a flyer about Anthony Bourdain giving El Taco Veloz a thumbs up as one of his Atlanta recommendations. 68/2019

This is the best place for me to get authentic Mexican food. The staff is unapologetically Mexican which I LOVE! The tacos are always hot, the pork is succulent, and the horchata is sweet and creamy! My husband recommended this eatery; we've been eating at Taco Veloz for 8 years.

I have been here twice. I always have hope especially because it's convenient as a drive through. But nah. The tacos are extremely oily and it's everywhere. I got pastor and chorizo and they both are orange af. Haven't tried other meats. The first time I ate there I got the flautas and they were ok- I've had better where the flautas were crispy even if they were take out. Save your belly and go to Gueros, it's on South Cobb Drive and is not a chain. It's fresh and there's not hella grease dripping from the bag

El Taco Veloz is good because you get authentic Mexican food at great prices. Tacos are $1.69 to $1.85, tortas (Mexican sandwiches) are under $5, and burritos are between $5 and $6. You can also get traditional Mexican plates such as taco salads and chile rellenos (stuffed chiles) with rice, beans, and a variety of a la carte sides including cheese dip, papas fritas (fries), frijoles charros (bean soup), and fresh avocado. For dine-in orders, there's a salsa bar that has three types of salsa, sliced lime, chopped onion and cilantro, and cucumbers. My favorite items to get are the tacos and tortas. If I'm ordering tacos, three usually suffice to fill me up. One torta makes a good, quick meal. My favorite tacos are the carne asada (grilled steak fajita), barbacoa (soft shredded beef), and carnitas (pork). The tacos come out fast, wrapped in tin foil, and hot. If you get a taco with everything, it comes with onion, cilantro, and spicy green salsa. You can get each of these things at the salsa bar, so it might be a good idea to add them yourself. I once got my tacos "with everything" and they lit my mouth on fire (and I love spicy foods). The tacos come wrapped in two soft flour tortilla shells, but even they are not enough for the sogginess of the ingredients. I've had many a taco fall apart in between my fingers here. Dessert-wise, you can get rice pudding, flan, and churros (doughnuts). The churros are muy delicioso and come out hot from the fryer coated in plenty of sugar. Highly recommended. I also like ordering their horchata (sweet rice drink) or a Jarritos (Mexican soft drink). Beware of sugar crash afterwards. El Taco Veloz is Mexican fast food and the inside of the store resembles as much. According to Ivan S's review, this used to be an old McDonald's. They've added a couple TVs tuned to Mexican channels. The staff cleans the tables when they can get to them. Miscellaneous note: This is El Taco Veloz #4.

Why go to Taco Bell or Del Taco when you can come here to El Taco Veloz and get yourself some hole-in-the-wall fast food. The menu is varied and explores all the different ways to combine a tortilla with a protein, ranging from tacos to burritos to tortas. I wnt with the carne asada burrito and it was chock full of tasty meat which I topped with onions and cilantro and a little bit of gasoline... I mean super hot salsa... from their fixings bar. It's also a drive through, but I don't know if it's something you want to eat while you're driving. I'll be back!

Soooo fresh! My bf and I shared a beef quesadilla and the chicken enchiladas! The beef in the quesadilla was so fresh and good quality beef! I couldn't believe how good and simply it was seasoned! The chicken enchiladas you could taste the freshness of the tortillas used for the enchiladas just thinking about it I am slobbering on myself! I added the red spicy sauce and it was flavorful and spicy. I also had a flan and it was the best flan I have had since I moved from Miami!! So good! I would definitely come back here again

Don't order the menudo. They didn't put any hominy in it. It's literally just a bowl of tripe.

The food was really fresh and authentic. Service was great. Ambiance is just what you'd expect of an authentic Mexican fast food taco place.

The chips were fresh, the queso was really good, and everything we ordered came out hot and flavorful. The margarita selection is also a big highlight--lots of great options. The only downside is the service, which unfortunately has been pretty consistent across both locations. We're always seated and greeted right away, but once the food comes out, it's hard to get any follow-up. Servers don't really check back in, and after the check is dropped off, they typically don't return. That said, the food and drinks keep us coming back. If the service matched the quality of the food, this place would be top-tier, especially with the overall energy.
