This place always hits the spot! of the time! We typically go on Tuesdays because they started back their dollar tacos. I always get Al Pastor street tacos with cilantro and onion. They are so good. The flavor from the meat with the freshness from the veggies is unreal. They have awesome salsa. I typically use the green sauce. It is very spicy and goes so well with the tacos. Very much a hole-in-the-wall joint. The restaurant is not in good repair but we will return to try more of their yummy food. We had one chicken empanada, one chicken taco, two pastor tacos, two carnitas, one barbacoa, and chips with guacamole. The guacamole is amazing and we will return solely for this single, tasty offering. The tacos are authentically mexican; just simple, bland, yummy goodness It's just hard to describe how something that doesn't have a lot of flavor can be so good and we aren't hot sauce people so that wasn't even touched. The service was okay, friendly enough but nothing over the top. Someone mentioned in a review that it isn't the restaurants fault that the landlord won't fix the ceiling but I find issue in that even the vents are disgusting. If it were my restaurant I would do everything in my power to make it look nice and clean enough for people to want to return a million times over. Stopped by here a few weeks back while in the area, and I wish I would have kept going. When I walked in there was one person at the cash register that was on the phone taking an order, she did not even acknowledge me and after she got off the phone I had to be the one to great her. Then I get to the menu, which has no prices. So don't rely on the prices that are shown on Yelp, or even for their online ordering. I got a chicken quesadilla combo, which totaled $13.49 pretax. Which is weird considering online a chicken quesadilla a la carte is $4.49... and when we asked about the difference of the prices online vs in store she said she had ran me up correctly and that's the price on the computer. But $9 up charge for beans, rice and a drink? Yeah, no thanks. I give this place two stars, because the food was OK. The quesadilla chicken was drowned in a sauce and the chicken was shredded super thinly. The rice and beans average. I came here upon a recommendation from a co worker. I decided to visit on a Tuesday as they have a Taco Tuesday dollar tacos for specific ones. It was ok. Nothing memorable. We took our order to go. I have been ordering from them frequently for the last 5 years. This year gas been the worse. If I order 3 empanadas, they only send 2. If I order a chicken sope, I get something else entirely. All these, even after I made pretty specific notes when I order. Today was the last of it. I ordered 2 milanesa tortas, it was chicken what I got. The wrong number of items thing has happened several times, not just one, and today I finally decided never to order from them again. Specifically, when you see Hispanic day workers in large numbers lined up to get in the door when there are tons of places to eat along this strip of town, including many very good Mexican eateries, then you know the food is first-rate. Holy guacamole, my gorditas were busting with pure corn flavor, perfectly prepared shells clearly made in-house, packed with my meat of choice on this trip--pastor--then topped with tomatoes, onions, cilantro and white cheese which I assume to be Queso Fresco but could be wrong. Tasty, that's what it all is. No, better than that, pure savory bliss. Best gorditas in town to pass these lips. My order was a plate so came with arroz y frijoles. If a place can't get these right, I'm done with it. No problem here. Superb. Friend opted for the tacos. He's a cabeza fan and thinks these are some of the very best he's had. That's saying something because we've both eaten a LOT of this food in greater metro area. Sauces appear to be made from scratch, another reason to love this place. There are hundreds of great taquerias in the metro area, and some very good ones along the highway here. Why would you need to revisit any single one? Because it's that damn good, that's why. Well we were wanting Mexican and found this place on a taco Tuesday special. We got the chicken platter. We enjoyed this enough to go back several times also having their burrito platter and not able to eat the whole thing. Very authentic order at the bar and they will bring it to you. This is a great find for those seeking the real deal Mexican in Kansas City. The menu is limited, but what you'll find on it is as delicious and authentic as anything you'll find on Southwest Boulevard. I grabbed a selection of four tacos prepared in the traditional manner (onion and cilantro on soft corn tortillas). They were served on the standard, small street taco tortilla size. Nothing surprising here. They didn't double-layer the tortillas for the carne asada (bistek in this case), but they held together just fine, so no worries. Each of the four I got were delicious. I'm not even sure I could pick a favorite - maybe the bistek - maybe the al pastor. Regardless, they are an exceptional bargain. And taco Tuesday - people should be lining out the freaking door for that deal! Great place. Nice service. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Started by searching yelp for a good place to eat Mexican food. Found this place and it had glowing reviews so figured we'd give it a shot. It was fantastic. The employees were super helpful and nice. I'm not a fan of corn tortillas so they offered to change for flower ones (this likely isn't a hard request, however they offered and were more than willing to make any changes). We wanted to try a bunch of different stuff, they brought it to our table with a smile. The food was AMAZING... A+++ here. Very authentic not your normal Mexican American Taco Bell type food. My wife is Latin and it met her approval as well. This will be our go to place for Mexican food. It's not a large super nice corporate place... but where can you normally find the best quality? Great little spot! We came on taco Tuesday and split seven tacos: chicken, ground beef, cabeza, chorizo, Pastor, bistec and Carnitas. The chorizo was our favorite, and the Cabeza a close second! Everything was yummy though. There was a funny game show in Spanish playing on the TVs, which added to the authentic feel of the place. We ordered take out. Authentic delicious food! The Carnitas burrito was a great size, flavorful and priced right. However el Caldo de Res was too pricey for the amount received. It tasted great and noticed that 2 other clients ordered it. The Pollo Con Mole Combo came with 2 drum sticks ( not much meat) and a lot of sauce. Luckily we had some cooked chicken at home so we added it to the mole sauce. We were given 2 sides of rice instead of 1 bean and 1 rice. Had we eaten this at the restaurant, we would have said something. We will try this place again but will look at our food before we leave the restaurant. I love this little place off the beaten path. Very authentic Mexican dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. Our family loved the food and the staff was very friendly. It is also a Mexican grocery BTW and the restaurant had simple decor. My kids loved the tacos and quesadillas. My wife and I tried the chorizo, beef, carnitas, and chicken tacos as well as the tamales. I was pleased with all of it but loved the fresh tamales and the chorizo tacos!
