Chapala is about 8 miles from where I live and I've had the opportunity to eat here multiple times. I've had everything from the nachos to enchiladas, Speedy Gonzalez to quesadillas, burritos, tacos, and most everything else. And I don't make multiple return visits to restaurants where I don't enjoy the food and the service. The restaurant is tucked away down what appears to be an industrial street where you wouldn't expect to find a sit-down restaurant. Because of this you won't accidentally discover it while you're out on a Saturday afternoon drive. I'm certain the location hurts their business as it has other failed restaurants that have occupied the same space in the past. But if you go to the trouble of finding it, you'll be happy you did. There are a few "Mexican" restaurants in this area of town, but this is a "Tex-Mex" restaurant, which I prefer. I won't go into describing each individual item on the menu, I'll just say the food is solid Tex-Mex. I lived in Houston and San Antonio for a total of 10 years, so I know what Tex-Mex is supposed to taste like. Chapala could definitely hold their own in South Texas. I think you should give it a try. read more

If it wasn't for the fast service and decent prices, this place would have received a 2-star rating. The food we ordered was sub par. While many items were ok and overall portion sizes were good, it lacked seasoning, especially the quesadilla. It was simply a tortilla with an underwhelming amount of cheese. Didn't even taste like the tortilla was heated up with any butter. Very bland. The tacos we ordered were ok but the shells reminded me of that from a Taco Bell taco kit almost. Sadly a soft option or corn option was not offered to us. Even though we dined around 1230, the restaurant was empty. Only one other table was occupied with guests. Chapala has a new location, but it's still serving the same quality food. I like the queso dip. I also like the chicken chimichanga smothered in, you guessed it, a heaping pile of queso along with sides of rice and refried beans. Service is a work in progress. Sometimes there isn't a person to greet and seat you. Sometimes it takes a server a little bit to realize you're in their section. Sometimes the food takes a while to come out. Everything seems to work its way out, but these are things to think about if you're time sensitive or on a schedule. read more

I enjoyed the great service, delicious food, new dining area and reasonable prices during my dine-in lunch visit. The "lunch dos" included a burrito, refried beans and rice for $7.59. It was served just eight minutes after I ordered at the table, which gave me time to make a dent in the complimentary chips and mild salsa. The burrito was packed full of moist, shredded, tasty, marinated chicken without any fillers like rice or beans - nice! The rice and refried beans were both pretty good, with good portions. The dining area was nice and new with big screen TVs in the corners and Mexican background music (not too loud). I also noticed a bar area. I found the service to be cheerful and attentive. Came here for dinner while visiting. I entered the restaurant and stood at the front for 7 mins before I was approached and greeted. I was finally seated and served a drink. I ordered a chili relleno, a bean tostada and a cheese enchilada. The enchilada was drenched in a not so good red sauce, the tostada didn't taste fresh, and the chili relleno was ok. I love the food here! They have really good food, great drinks But their customer service absolutely sucks. You can have one or two tables in there, and one server and the service is very slow, you have to wait constantly for refills on drinks and chips and salsa refills. Food in the kitchen is slow to come out. Staff is not friendly. I ordered cheese dip one time never got the cheese dip. When the bill came, I told the waitress that we didn't get our cheese dip and she still charged us for it. Had to ask it for to be removed. They need to work on their customer service. It would be 5/5 for food quality alone but the service is very slow. Seems like maybe they are understaffed. It was worth the wait though because the food was really good. We've been trying all the Mexican restaurants in Olathe and this may be our new favorite. The chips, white cheese, and salsa were good! The chips were thin and crispy which I love. I also ordered some of the hot salsa and it was definitely spicy! It had a decent amount of cilantro. I actually had to mix some with the regular salsa though because of the spice level. I'd definitely still get it though. The house margaritas were also good! Especially for this area. I kept getting watered down margaritas at other places that barely tasted like lime. These definitely had fresh lime juice in them. I got the Enchiladas Rancheras with green sauce instead of red. The pork on top was very flavorful! The rice was okay but probably my least favorite thing we tried. I rarely eat all my rice anyway so that's not really that big of a deal for me and it wasn't bad. My boyfriend got the pork chimichanga and it was actually CRISPY! I've been struggling to find a place where the chimichanga wasn't soggy. I'm definitely getting it next time. I had stopped at the Motel 6 in Olathe Kansas for the night and right next door was the Chapala Mexican restaurant. The woman at the desk said they had gotten good reviews from other people who stayed at the motel so I decided I would give it a try. I am from Tucson Arizona, so I am used to some really good Mexican food. I have to say this stands up to any place I have ever been. Yeah, this place is great. Among the dishes at our table were spinach enchiladas (fab), veggie fajitas and Alambre Chapala, which was a combo of grilled steak and chicken with peppers and cheese. Everything was a little drowned in cheese, but was delicious and fresh. The whole restaurant smells great the second you walk in the door, and they seem to do a lot of online orders. This use to be a great Mexican resident. The last 2 times we had gone my soft shell tacos were cold. Trey don't warm the shells anymore. I asked for lemon for my water and the waiter brought them to me in his hand The service is slow. s So sad to see this place going down. read more

We LOVE family owned businesses. We have been a couple of times since they opened the new location- one time service and food coming out was quick, another time was a little slower. In our fast-paced world I think we can all use a little lesson in grace and patience people... The food and drinks are worth it! We always ask for the spicy salsa. On our most recent visit they brought out a tomatillo and the habanero which is what we are used to. The tomatillo was supposed to be medium but it was definitely a sweet hot and had to mix it with the normal salsa but very good! Love the habanero as well. I always have the enchilada and chili relleno combo with a crispy beef taco so I can have leftovers for lunch:) The taco is full of seasoned beef and delicious. The relleno is the best I've had, tender, and always a huge pepper lightly breaded so it doesn't over power and I can actually taste the poblano. The white queso and guac are a must. The guac is pure avocado, so fresh and addicting, The white queso could be served by the glass as far as I'm concerned. I don't typically like margaritas because they are too sweet - not here - they are seriously perfect! Servers are always friendly and attentive even if it does take a few minutes. read more

We went in with a group of 15 for a business get together. I'm not sure anyone ordered 2 of the same dish, and everyone's was fantastic. My wife and I used to eat at the old location, it was great then, and it's still great. The server wasn't overwhelmed with the large group. He kept all of our drinks, chips, and salsa full. We show up and there are 4 tables with patrons and about 12 tables covered in dishes and glasses. Apparently nobody to bus. Wait at the front for about 5 minutes before someone comes over and tells us she need to clear a table. Get seated and it took forever to get our drinks. No silverware or napkins, so we ask for some and are told they ran out and are waiting for it to be washed. Half the restaurant's seating area was closed off (lights were just completely shut off which is strange), so how they are out of silverware is even more strange. Apparently they never fill up or they wouldn't have enough forks for people to eat. Another large group waited at the front for about 10 minutes before they were seated. Finally get napkins, but can't get a refill of chips. Finally get the chip refill after asking a second time (with a side of attitude). Food comes about 25 minutes after we ordered and it was fine, nothing special. I did have to remove a chicken bone from a bite of my chicken chimichanga. Overall, I cannot recommend this place and I'd be surprised if it's even open this time next year. read more

If I can give it a 0 star I would. We used to love going to the old Chapala and today was our first time coming to this new opened location and we are sure that it is our last time. We ordered a Special Chapala and what we got was a burnt Chapala. That was not worth $21. We even ordered a Burrito Real and the red sauce that was supposed to be on it was pizza sauce, I could have just bought that from the store and made it myself. Let's not forget the Burrito Gigante that we ordered and is supposed to come with Chicken and it only came with 3 tiny pieces of chicken. This food is absolutely disgusting, and uneatable. We even asked if they could remake it and we got told NO. First when we came in we were met by a rude lady who had an attitude towards us. The total came out to $70 and I can ensure you it wasn't worth it. read more

What a shame! First time here and loved the food. Was actually planning our next visit until I got the bill at the end. It was 20% higher Han I anticipated. For example, my cheese enchiladas were listed at $5.89 on the menu and on the bill they were $8.79. Every single thing we ordered was higher than the menu said. I called the server over and he said everyone knows those prices are wrong. It must be your first time. He said you should use the code on the table, even though he seated us with the menu. This is the first time we've been here since they moved and they have been open for a while. It was a terrible experience. The waitress was more interested in her family that was here than anything else. The drinks had no alcohol in them and had to be remade. My dinner which was Burrito Mexicana was swimming in a runny liquid that made it totally soggy. I sent it back and had to ask the manager to take it off of our bill. I won't be back. read more

Our family was celebrating a milestone, and we chose this Mexican restaurant for a big reason. Their refried beans are not cooked with animal fat/lard. Instead, veggie oil is used. Our meal was delicious! The chips were warm, and the service was stellar!!! read more
