I was impressed with the delicious, authentic food and the nice toppings bar during my opening week dine-in lunch, but the service seemed rather disorganized. My enchiladas plate ($9.99) was served 12 minutes after I ordered at the table. It included three enchiladas with choice of meat, choice of sauce (red or green), choice of rice (white or brown) and choice of beans (charro or refried). The portions were generous and everything was delicious, with a nice, medium heat level coming from the red sauce. I did not notice complimentary chips and salsa. A toppings bar was available with 12 options including sliced onions, peppers, four sauces, two versions of pico de gallo, limes and guacamole (nice). Bottled hot sauces were also available to spice things up. I noticed a clean and spacious dining area with a large patio area. The menu included desserts, a variety of bottled beers, margaritas and cocktails. Unfortunately, the service (while cheerful and somewhat fast) was rather haphazard and the payment process was unclear and slow. Overall, very nice.

After completing the KCK Taco Trail last fall, I took a bit of a breather and took a few months off of eating the tortilla filled masterpieces. I decided today that my self-imposed Mexican moratorium was over and it was time to cross the state line and get back in the game. El Torito Grill is a newer player on the scene and has taken over an old Hardees building on Central Ave. - one of the three main taqueria thoroughfares in KCK. I ordered the Lamb Quesaberria. Four juicy, cheesy, griddled to perfection tortilla's with a large bowl of consommé for ample dipping and onions and cilantro on the side. Absolute perfection on all counts. My lack of giving a 5 star rating is for the poor customer service that I received from everyone. I was asked when I walked in by the man behind the counter if it was for dine-in or carryout. I told him dine -in and he asked for my order. He then told me to take a seat and they would bring it out. As soon as I sat down, a waitress brings me a menu!? I told her that I had already ordered and was then promptly ignored for the rest of my visit; having to go find silverware that wasn't brought with my food and then having to go plead for a water cup that I had asked for previously. An epic failure with lack of communication from the front end manager that put a bad mark on my experience and the waitress unable to work for a 20%+ tip on a $14 meal. Will I go back? Probably. The place is clean, a large condiment/salsa table and great food, I just need to let the low-key seething and head shaking dissipate for a few months first. At least now i know the routine.

al pastor tacos were good! not the best in the kc metro but still are top notch. service was fast and attentive and did not wait long to order my food. it was not very busy inside but still had lots of people coming by to order to-go rather than sit and dine. their agua de jimaca was amazing!! not a bad place for a quick Mexican meal with authentic food and where it is not that busy inside.

I have had birria tacos from multiple places in Kansas City Ks and Kcmo and this place was by far the best, which is saying a lot on a large to go order. We ordered five beef birria tacos to go ( after a wine tasting event weirdly) and they still tasted incredible by the time we got them. The consome was not too heavy on the cinnamon and not to salty, condiments fresh and nicely packaged, and the cheese pull was perfect. Definitely will be back!

I've eaten there for years, but one of my recent stops made me realize it's more than just the food. Please read on.... An immigrant showed me friendship in food, even though I was a stranger. The place was packed and the only open table was where the workers sit. I was by myself, but one of the restaurant workers came up with her lunch and gestured to me if she could sit at the table. I smiled and said "Si." I noticed she was eating birria tacos with consomme and it looked delicious. She saw me and laughed, said something in Spanish which I think translated into "Would you like some birria and consomme?" I nodded yes and she went back to the kitchen and returned with a small container. You can tell from the video the broth was rich, the birria was tender and fatty (but in the best way)! I tried to convey to her it was great and thank you. She asked me something in Spanish and I could only respond in a gringo "Que'?" I finally used Google Translate and she was asking if I worked nearby. I was dressed in my blue collar clothes! I used the App to tell her I drove in from my part of town and she smiled and laughed. I think she understood how much I loved eating at Don Antonios, because I would drive at least 25 minutes to eat there. If she only knew I'm there every week! This experience reinforced what I already knew. Immigrants are kind and caring people. Just like my grandparents when they arrived in America before WWII. I also know what my family and I have experienced when you don't look like the majority.... Just my two cents and a tip of the hat to an immigrant who showed me friendship in food, even though I was a stranger.

I've stopped in several times and keep coming back for the No. 20. It's incredibly filling and almost always leaves me with leftovers to take home (which I consider a win). Every meal has been consistently good--I haven't had a disappointing bite yet. The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable, with plenty of tables and booths. Fantastic dinner!…read more Amazing food! I had Mole Enchilada with rice, and ordered seasonal vegetables as side. Our table also had table side guacamole and salsa and chips. That mole was amazing! I'll be back - the mole and guac makes my mouth water thinking about it. The Mole Enchilada with chicken was so delicious - deep flavor with juicy shredded chicken. The seasonal vegetables included broccolini, carrots, and asparagus - slightly crunchy, just the way I liked them cooked! I also had a La Chimosa cocktail - c a m a r e n a tequila blanco, l i m e, a g a v e, g r a p e f r u i t soda, passion fruit - pretty good. I enjoyed the ambiance - lots of beautiful art on the walls, subtle lighting, green plants, tasteful decorations, table lines, and relaxed atmosphere. We were there on a Monday night - it wasn't busy. It was a great place to go for our business group of five. Servers were friendly, especially the woman at the front as you entered. We had a nice chat while I waited for the rest of our table to arrive. They validated parking in the garage next door - so keep that in mind if street parking is unavailable. Pricing was what I would expect for this nice location. It was $$ to $$$ depending on what you ordered. I would definitely go back and recommend!
