Festive Atmosphere, delicious food, Attentive Service. We pooped in for a casual dinner on a Sunday and it was a little quiet. I hadn't been since the name change, but the food was just as good as I remember. We started with chips and salsa. I loved the poblano salsa and my friend enjoyed the habanaro ( spicy of the day ). We also shared the Fries and street corn ( both we will get every time in the future). I ordered the duck taco and the BLT taco and a side of beans. The beans and the BLT taco were awesome. The Duck taco was ok. I think I prefer flour tortillas and will order them to be made with those in the future. For dessert we got the Churros. They were hot and perfect. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was genuinely the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We politely asked our manager if she could change the TVs from the Food Network to the Norway soccer match. Instead of a simple yes or no, she responded, "You can get behind the bar and do it yourself." Before we could even process what had happened, she came over, aggressively grabbed our plates and drinks out of our hands, told us to leave, and began yelling and cursing at us. We were completely caught off guard because we had been polite and respectful the entire time. I've never been treated this way by restaurant staff. It was unprofessional, hostile, and completely unacceptable. I hope ownership looks into how customers are being treated because no one should have an experience like this. read more

Despite the chain-feel, this place has pretty solid Mexican food! The location is great, it's nestled in among the "brewery blocks" (I forget what KCMO calls this area) so you can walk to lots of other places if you're thirsty afterwards. When you eat the food you think to yourself, "it's ight but it's not good and it's nothing different than anything else you've ever had. In addition the service was absolutely terrible, I genuinely believe we saw our server twice, once when they took our order and another when they brought out the check. My friend and I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat. It's a great space, very fun and has an upbeat vibe. Every staff members was friendly and helpful. We had the best time here! The restaurant has a fun, surf/beach type decor. We were greeted warmly as soon as we arrived and taken to a booth. It happened to be Happy Hour, so margaritas were $2 off. My frozen/blended margarita was amazing! We got the queso con chorizo as an appetizer. The cheese was creamy and the spicy chorizo was tasty. We did not leave any queso behind! My husband and I both got tacos. He got a Hot Fried Chicken taco, a Mango Habanero Shrimp taco, and a Spicy Chorizo taco. I tried the chorizo taco and it was spicy as promised, and very good! I ordered a Mango Habanero Shrimp taco, a Carnitas taco, and a Fried Baja Fish Taco. Every taco was unique and flavorful. I would order all of them again! We stopped in for a date night and had a good time. We were seated quickly and the staff members were friendly. The portions were on the smaller side and it took a while for our drinks. The salsa has a very fire roasted flavor -- it wasn't for me but my partner liked it. The tacos were fresh but I was hoping for more for the price. The burrito was a better value for sure. But it took us quite a while to get service. In fact, we had to ask the hostess again if there was a waitress. Once we got service, food came out right away. Service was some of the worst we have ever experienced. We got our drinks and our server did not come back to refill our drinks the remainder of the time we were there. We had to ask another server to get us water. While they were not busy, multiple tables came in and had gotten their food and paid before we even got our main meal. Our table got here early afternoon and was waiting on our food for almost an hour and a half, and it was cold (obviously have been sitting there for a while). We were here from St Louis. Frequent flyers to the soulard location, so we were so excited to come in, especially for the margaritas. Unfortunately they are not what they use to be. They use to rattle these drinks for 30 seconds plus ending with the most delicious frothy cold marg I've ever had. This one today , the spicy marg tastes just like a regular mix margarita. If there was something less than one star that's what I would rate it. Last night before the concert at Grinders we got there around 6:00 PM. It took 15 minutes before any server paid attention to us. The server was absolutely rude. We ordered drinks and the meal together. They provided no plates or flatware. My wife and friend ate their lousy tacos off of napkins. The fish taco smelled like they left out the fish for days. And they bought out most of the tacos on a platter and basically told us to figure out our order. Well, it's hard to tell which taco belongs to anyone when it's covered with lettuce and cheese. We finally got out of there around 7:30 PM and missed the first act next door. My office is less than one block away and I will never go back there. The food here was so ridiculously good, I was surprised! I figured it'd be good but not great-- but I was really pleasantly surprised! It blew me away with the guac, the corn (elote vibe with no heat) and the quesadilla. I also got a drink, and it was strong enough to feel worth it but tasted very good! So close to a 4 star review but, the service at the bar yesterday was slow and they seemed to be understaffed for lunch service. Not necessarily the bartenders fault that they were short staffed but, it did take a while after our water orders to get drink orders in. Also, on a service note, at the end of our meal it was a bit of a lag to get our check so, that was a bummer. But, the food was better than I had remembered it to be even if it is still a little expensive per taco. The tacos themselves are street taco in style but with twists in flavor and definitely are packed full but, at nearly $4 per taco they better be. I went with the mushroom meat free taco and was surprised with the intense smokey flavor also the creamy black beans and crumbled salty cheese and the crispy fried onions were perfect rich accompaniments to a vegetarian dish. I was very intrigued with the BLT taco on the menu and may have to bite the bullet and try it next time. My friend went with the safe choice of their barbeque chicken taco and seemed to enjoy their pick. We also spilt a fun appetizer that was named as street corn fritters on the menu however, when they arrived they were closer to hush puppies opposed to fried mac n cheese balls (like I was expecting). Even though they weren't exactly what I envisioned they were mighty tasty and we're especially savory with a squirt of lime on top. The cheese that I was picturing inside the fritters turned out to be a generous helping of nutty parmesan snow all over the top. All in all, this was a fun take on a sharable tex mex appetizer. Now I do really wish that this Mission Taco would focus a little more on the ambiance and service because both haven't ever been their strong suits. The walls are painted with an odd scene of a robot observing a futuristic city...ok? Strange, yes...also strange, the array of mismatched nacho libre style masks on the wall by the shared bathroom with International Tap House, which is the best feature by far of Mission Taco- the bathrooms and that's quite sad. They had an opportunity here to either go all in and make this place a fun cheesy (both literally and metaphorically) Mexican fiesta type of decorated type of "white people taco place" or they could have went a little more classy clean-lines aesthetic since the building is more modern. Think the new chic Mexican spot Calavera's in downtown Lees Summit. If Mission Taco fixes it's identity crisis on the inside then I could over look the sub par service this time and call it a fluke but, I think it has a few things to work on...the food not being one of them. Every single ingredient in this burrito, from the wheat tortilla, to the unmeltable cheap daiya cheese, to the worst imitation meat that tasted like a truck tire, was low quality and worse than flavorless. I have had probably 1000 burritos, lifetime, and this single burrito was the first one I ever took one bite of and couldn't continue because of how gross it was. My wife was stoned with the munchies and even SHE couldn't take two bites. The server even straight up told us that their vegan options were gross here after we tried it and I was honest about it. I was like, yeah I know. Still even after that exchange charged us full price for both burritos of course. Why even offer a vegan option if no one working here even likes it? There are so many amazing creative ways to make a burrito. Please learn how to use a vegetable. Here's how I know mission tacos truly doesn't care. They take the time to differentiate between "vegetarian" and "vegan" on their menu and messed it all up making it confusing. Vegetarian means there's cheese on it. The salsa is labeled vegetarian, so I had to ask if the salsa had some kind of dairy in it, making the server who has no idea what that means walk all the way back to the kitchen to ask if SALSA has cheese in it.
