In a small strip of shops, next to the barbershop, is the lunch box. I really, really wanted to like this place! Family-owned, a nice young lady behind the counter who was helpful and friendly, a good selection of menu items, etc. just too many things I ended up not liking. I just wanted a glass of water to drink but guess that was not an option so I was given a bottle. I really wanted some guacamole but when I ordered it, I found the only way their guacamole is available is spicy as they mix their guacamole with a spicy sauce. I ordered a steak quesadilla for $6.59. The price was reasonable and it was freshly made but my first six bites had tough meat/gristle in them so I had to spit it out. I was pretty well done after that. With the bottle of water my lunch was over nine dollars. I actually ended up heading over to Queen Taco on 23rd St. to make chips and guacamole my lunch and my nine bucks spent at the lunchbox was down the drain.

This is not the Lunch Box. The real Lunch Box is down on the bottoms on ninth Street. I thought something was going on when all I saw was Mexican food. The real Lunch Box serves breakfast and lunch and is located in a small convenience store. i'm not even gonna acknowledge that this place exist until they change their name, because the real Lunch Box has been around forever. read more

Love this literal hole in the wall. It has a strange variety on its menu, but should be able to find something for everyone. Maybe 4-5 tables in the joint. Great quick lunch and they offer delivery. read more

We got tenderloin sandwiches and fries....maybe the other food is good....but after this time...I HAVE NO DESIRE TO FIND OUT!!!! I am still tasting the burnt grease 25 mins. later. The fries were ok, but the tenderloin was tasteless except for the dirty grease taste. Ordered with mayo., onion and lettuce. That was also ignored. Very disappointed. Had egg, lettuce, mayo., tomato and guac. Only good part was the guacamole sort of covered the nasty grease taste. read more

Excellent food, nice and helpful people. I had crunchy tacos with barbacoa beef that was meltingly tender and quite lean. Hubby is not usually enthusiastic about food, but said chicken burrito was the best he's had. Wow! The spot is tiny, it does have some seating. Doesn't look like much, go anyway. read more

I tried this location for lunch today for the first time. The kitchen was very clean and the staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. My husband and I absolutely love this place. When we first moved here from California the search was on for Mexican food that reminded us of home. This little restaurant has been the best local experience for us in Independence! The flavor is spot on, the salsas are amazing, the customer service is wonderful! We really couldn't ask for a better place so close to where we're living. My go to is the chicken soft tacos with mild salsa, and my husband gets the carnitas soft tacos with hot salsa. Absolutely AMAZING food. Came down to Kansas for my birthday, and I was going to a royals game, but needed something to do before the game. This is around 10 minutes away from Kauffman Stadium, and the food is unbeatable. If you're in the area, you should DEFINITELY give it a try! The staff was also very friendly. read more

Ordered takeout for lunch today and was not disappointed! My coworkers and I had a bacon cheeseburgers, onion rings, salads, and a burrito. There is a wide range of items on the menu to satisfy every craving. It was really good and reasonably priced. Delivery was fast and customer service was excellent. Great Mexican food and the owner was really nice. The torta de milanesa reminded me of the tortas in michoacan Mexico. My kids loved the chicken strips. We also got some of the homemade cookies by the register and they were delicious. read more

I was in the mood for some Mexican food so for my lunch break I decided to stop here and see how this place was. Co workers raved about this place so I would give it a try. I ordered a burrito and two tacos and drink it was about $10.50 with tax. I ate there and they gave me chips and salsa for free while I waited. The food was ok. The meats in the burrito and the taco was very bland but hey it was $10.50 cheaper than taco hell and my $ was going to a local business than a big corporation and I'm all about that! The salsa was bland as well. As I was sitting there that phone to the business would not stop ringing for delivery orders and I was like dang this place does a damn good business model and most of the orders were burgers I was like dang I should come back for the burger! This was probably the worse open face taco I have ever had. I didn't know you could cook meet without any taste. Apparently you can. Maybe because the proportion of meat to tortilla ratio was so bad. It may have been a tablespoon of meat on each taco. Maybe. I tried chicken, pastor, and carne asada and you literally could not tell any difference or taste the meat. My family and I entered and weren't greeted, despite there only being one other table seated. We ended up walking across the dining room ourselves before eventually being acknowledged. Not the strongest start. Once inside, the atmosphere had its ups and downs. The space itself is beautiful, but some details--like visible weeds and black tablecloths--took away from the overall polish. That said, things started to turn around once we got settled. I had the chance to meet the chef, who was incredibly personable and clearly passionate about his craft. We kicked things off with appetizers, and this is where the kitchen really began to shine. The lobster rangoons and tempura shrimp were both excellent--crispy, flavorful, and well-executed. For entrées, my daughter and sister-in-law both ordered the chef's burger and really enjoyed it. My niece had the steak frites and absolutely loved it. My wife ordered the lemon brick chicken with gnocchi and olive tapenade. After tasting it, I felt the gnocchi could have benefited from a quick sauté in clarified butter, finished with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs to bring out the depth the dish promised. I went with the Wagyu burger. The cook on it was spot-on, but the execution fell short. It came topped with three large slabs of bacon hanging well over the sides, making it difficult to eat without taking it apart. After adjusting it myself, I noticed it was under-seasoned--something as simple as a finishing salt would have elevated the richness of the Wagyu significantly. Overall, Ophelia's has a lot of potential. The food shows promise, the chef clearly knows his craft, and the space is visually appealing. But now the boxwoods are turning yellow there are no flowers, outdoor chairs on sitting on top of tables. The website says the patio opens Mother's Day however no flowers have been planted. The boutique store is now just Knick Knacks. No longer is there that surprise of what you might find scattered throughout those rooms or on the walls. I do give kudos to the food that was very good. I had steak kabobs that were cooked perfectly. The owners have added tables to the boutique which doesn't work they've got a great dining room. I'll go back for the food and cocktails in the bar and I'm hoping the patio is as charming after Mother's Day.

This place is the best!!! The owner and everybody that works there are amazing! Super nice, the food is always GREAT! They are fast too my food is always done in a timely manner. It's clean and they have an a huge menu selection! I love going here especially for their $1 tacos on Wednesday! The burritos are big and delicious also! This is one of my new favorite places. I wish they were open later so I could go more lol read more

The fajita burrito is pretty good. I thought it was going to be small but that's how they rolled it. And the pork tamale was pretty bomb. They didn't cheapen it with a little bit of meat in it. It actually had alot of meat in the tamale, same as the burrito. I highly recommend this place. read more
