Haven't been to your restaurant for a few months. so much has changed . This place has gotten very stingy on side dishes. The rice and refried beans portion are kid sized . When you ask for salsa 16 oz to go they don't tell you that it's not 16oz anymore it's a small maybe 3oz container. used to absolutely love this place will never be back again and I'll make sure to tell people my experience was horrible. i'd rather eat McDonald's and that's saying a lot. Dos Reales may become one of my favorite places to enjoy an authentic Mexican restaurant in the greater Kansas City area. We enjoyed a great lunch before going out to the Shawnee Mission Lake! At this restaurant, you are served complimentary chips and two salsas: one thick and one cantina style. We also started with some queso dip! For lunch, I ordered the Enchilada & Tamale Combination and my partner ordered a Chicken Chimichanga. We both left happy and full! I've been coming here since 2010, as crazy as it sounds this was the first authentic Mexican food I ever had. Over the years the quality of the food and management has changed drastically! I came here for taco Tuesday and after what I experienced I don't think I'll be back no time soon. For starters it took someone just about 15mins to bring us water, then another 15 for salsa and chips. At the point when the server came to the table we gave our order right then and there to avoid waiting another 15 mins to come back, which was crazy because they weren't busy at all. I ordered fish tacos, which are normally amazing! This time around they were meh, they weren't seasoned nor prepared how there usually are. The cheese steak burrito which is another staple of their's was a disaster, the cook just couldn't seem to get it right. Not sure if he was new but it was a no go. Restaurant is clean with lots of TVs for the sports. You get two salsas, a chunky and a blended. Both delicious and fresh. I have been to Dos Reales multiple times for lunch, and have always had a great experience. Talked my wife into going tonight for dinner after a long week. We checked their hours and saw they were open until 10:00 pm. We arrived around 8:30 pm and ordered right away. Got our margaritas right away, spinach dip took 20+minutes. We opted to share a burrito for ease; however, it didn't arrive until after 9:15. We then waited until well after 9:30 to get our checks, even though we had our cards on the table since right after we ordered. Our waitress never checked in and when she finally brought our checks, it was evident we had interrupted her evening. If you don't want to have customers after 8:30, change your hours. I came here upon a recommendation from a coworker. I was hesitant about coming due to a prior review on here that had a picture of a roach. I figured that was years ago and truly could have come from anywhere. I came during my lunch hour on a Friday. I initially attempted to order ahead of time and they were clearly having phone issues. I went ahead and call the Overland Park store who had no clue as to why their Shawnee location was having phone issues. She was very uninterested. Anyways the online menu was not very helpful as I was not sure if the tacos were hard or soft. Flour or corn. I drove over and they were not busy. I went to the bar and ordered the tacos and queso. The queso came highly recommended. It's very good and can easily be enjoyed in large quantities. The chips are really good. The portions are generous. The tacos were good. The rice and beans were very delicious. My favorite was the queso and chips. The price was expensive. Especially for lunch. However, since it was a large portion of food, I was able to share it with my husband and bring it home. The queso is $5 and the tacos with rice and beans was $17. Food is great. But the last 2 times we've ordered thru Ubereats there have been problems. The 1st time the delivery driver was there for over 30 minutes. A bit overpriced but it's a Mexican Restaurant in Shawnee so I wasn't surprised. I got the Ceviche and was a little disappointed due to lack of flavor and lack of shrimp. I had not been back to Dos Reales for probably a year, but I went back today and was very disappointed again. The person who I went to dinner with had a dish that they typically have at other Mexican restaurants, and she said that the sauce was old tasting. My meal was not very flavorful either. The service was OK, the one positive was that the restaurant seemed clean as well as the bathrooms. My husband and I used to frequent this restaurant all the time, but we noticed that the service declined and the food started to become more bland. read more

Called the restaurant to discuss the situation and the employee said 'you have to call DoorDash'. Contacted DoorDash and was told this type of situation does not qualify for any compensation. Taco Tuesday so tried a new place. Very cool inside and service was very good and she was very nice. Complimentary chips and two salsas. One was chunky and I liked it a lot. The other was more traditional but also very good. I had ground beef hard shell and chicken soft shell tacos. They were very big tacos. Tons of white meat chicken and lost of cheese. I am giving a 1 star review for this particular issue. This Dos Reales location is one of our favorite places to eat, and we eat there often. Unfortunately, they have implemented a new policy that does not work for us. When we got the bill, there was a 3.5% fee added to the bill for credit card fee. We pay in cash so this fee is inappropriate in cases such as ours. They should rethink this. read more

After being skeptical of an authentic Mexican restaurant in Shawnee, I was pleased both times I have visited. The menu is large and I was hoping for a deep fried taco, however, based on Yelp photos I opted out. I prefer a real deep fried shell and not the store bought shape - if you know what I mean. Instead both my husband and I tried the Burrito Green Chile because we love a burrito spread and this was the closest thing. It was SO good. The flavor and sauce were some of the best green Chile I have tried. Highly recommend. Only negative - they could do with a bit larger portions of rice and more queso in the queso fundido. read more

Still one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area and have been going here since I was a kid! I always have great service when I am here and our most recent visit was no exception. Our server was fantastic. He was very personable, funny, and did everything perfect. There was no wait and the inside was steady but not too busy for a Taco Tuesday. I've always loved the interior décor here and the working fountain has always been a great touch! The food never disappoints either thankfully. I got something different than by usual and was pretty happy with it (Quesa Birria) but it cannot compete with some of the even more authentic places in town. Overall, this is still a go-to Mexican restaurant for me and I am super glad they have stayed in business all these years. read more

This place is just around the corner from where I work so I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad that I tried this tucked away restaurant. From the outside you would not expect the large dinning area on the inside. Within this hidden gems decor you will find spacious seating among water fountains inside. The menu is not packed full of so many choices that its hard to choose what you want, nor is it a small menu by any means. I think they found that sweet spot of having a great selection with out flooding the menu or filling in a lot of space with photos of the food. Another thing i do like is that they have dollar tacos every Tuesday. Just another great opportunity for friends and family to get together and have great food. I ordered the Tacos De Pescado (fish tacos) and to be honest i was expecting just the generic chopped up breaded fish style taco. Let me just say i was pleasantly surprised when the plate arrived and i saw that it was grilled fish and not fried and battered fish in these three delicious looking large tacos. The fish gets grilled fresh when you order these, so don't expect your food super fast. I can promise it will be worth the wait for this delectable dish. They don not skimp either, these three tacos had me stuffed! I barely even touches the side of beans and rice that came with them. We love mexican food and After reading so many good reviews, we knew we had try Dos Realas. Started with the Dos Realas margaritas and they were wonderful. Service was great throughout our visit. DR was clean and bright and had a fun atmosphere. Really loved having the choice of 2 textures of salsa but found both to be very bland but kicked both up by adding some of their green salsa. Tried their espanaca but it too was very bland. I had a pork burito that was very good but a little light on the filling. Also tried a beef taco and was very disappointed. Tasted like taco bell tacos. Overall a little disappointed and probably won't be back. There were three of us and our check was $115 before tip. read more

It's been probably 10 years since we've been here but happened to be in the area tonight and stopped by for Taco Tuesday. We will be adding this to one of our weekly stops since we live so close. Best Mexican in Upper Overland Park/Shawnee... I say this with some confidence as I really enjoy Mexican and try to find and eat at all the places I can. Since I live in OP this is the area I can get to easiest. For those of you that want something more authentic... I would send you further afield. But, for delicious food in great quantities visit either of their locations. There is one of of 75 and Antioch and the other (this one) at Quivira and Shawnee Mission Parkway. I have tried almost everything on their menu and can't tell you of anything I wouldn't order again. Of course I have my favourites. And this is one of the times I ordered just a TS Margarita and Queso Fundido... which is really fun to say! Also pretty fun to eat. My other go to is to order the Parilla Suiza with Chorizo (I am probably butchering all the spellings but I am Scottish and EVERYTHING is spelled wrong.) I tend to have it all mixed up so I can eat it like a fajita that has been mixed with queso for dipping. Then eat the whole thing with Tortilla chips. This is a place where I cannot encourage people enough to swing in and give it a try. I do not know how the prices on kid dishes are now... but several years ago this was a once a week place for the foster kids and I. And my wallet loved it! As did our taste buds. Rereading this review... I feel that I should quickly clarify a few points. This is Mexican food made for Mid-westerners. It will not be what most think of as authentic. The kitchen will happily spice it up or down for you on the individual dishes. Thanx for reading and keep on eating! RANT: Authentic... this is a terrible term. Authentic Mexican food is what?
