So long story short one of the employees in the drive thru slammed salsa into my hand with force because I asked for extra salsa ...I get it that with Covid people are on edge and with a long drive thru line that they had they just want to get it over with but this person hit my hand with force ... I tried calling the owner 3 times and never did he return my calls over the span of 3 weeks I also visited the store twice to talk to them and they were never there ...Look I don't care how bad of a day you have been having you don't slam things into other peoples hands I will NEVER give this place another penny and I now hope this place fails like the firestone location did read more

Nice they adapted to my request for a make your own burrito at home when you live 5 hours away request. They measured out enough of each item in the burrito and put them in a storage container along with wrapping my tortillas in foil. Love their green chili burritos ! read more

Wait, this is Mexican fast food? It's the bomb diggity for fast food. They're fast, but not too fast. The food is hot even when you order drive-thru and finally get it home. Plus it's affordable. My meal was under $8.50. Need I say more? I used the drive-thru thinking my decision would be easy. Dammit to hell, it was not. Their menu is so flamin' extensive. I was shocked. A little uneasy. Then I thought, "Just do it. Get something that other places are known to screw up. Live life." I ordered the #47 ($3.59). I saw steak flautas, but then wanted chicken. Anyway, these flautas were slightly soft in the middle, a little more than I would usually like, but it was stuffed full with chicken! Also, it comes with an amazing side of guacamole. I was thinking these would be skinny little flautas so I ordered a cup of beans and a cup of rice, both $1.29 each. This being fast food, the portions are fairly big. The beans were nice and gooey with a big mess of melted shredded cheese dolloped in the middle. The rice was okay. I usually ask for rice solely as a filler, so I mixed it in with my beans. To drink I had a small Orange Bang ($1.39). Should have upgraded that size a little, but I had to make sure they made it up to par. The guy was not exactly audible at the order speaker, but still he managed to get my order correct. That same gentleman (at drive-thru window) was super nice... called me señorita. Hey, hey, hey now... notice the ring, bro? That's right, it's señora. His grin was classic. He asked me if I wanted just 2 or 3 salsas. Psssh, I ain't no fool. Give me 3 please. The salsa comes in small plastic containers with lids, but it has a little kick, not too spicy. This place definitely makes up for a chain fast food Mexican place back in eastern New Mexico and West Texas that I've been missing called Taco Villa. El Taco is way different than Taco Villa, but in a good way. I might try the taquitos next time, but I really prefer flautas over taquitos any day. Review #182 read more

I've been eating El Taco quesadillas since the late 70's. For years they were delicious and you couldn't find anything that compared. I'm sad to say that the last few years, they've just lost it. I've gone over and over trying to see if maybe it'll get better. I took a picture this time. I tore my quesadilla apart looking for cheese. All I found was hard tortilla, very very little cheese, and a hint of the green salsa. They should be embarrassed to serve this! read more

SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN !!! HORRIBLE PLACE RATS EVERYWHERE TOO !!!!! RUDE STAFF . They need to go take a look at this place This place is a joke , I got in like at 10:45 and didn't reach the menu til 11:03 cause the drive thru had a lot of cars . I always got a breakfast burrito from here . Now they lost a great customer.. if I was there waiting you should still take my order read more

Very expensive!!! I bought two breakfast tacos and it nearly came out to $12! The food isn't that great for the price. Also the man behind the drive-thru register was so rude!! read more

So now I'm showing my downfall. The quesadillas in this place are amazing. I remember when they were a quarter! I don't care I'll still buy them and the Spanish rice, guacamole oh my favorite chicken flaunta are amazing I know I spelt that wrong anyway, the food is just good. Make sure you bring a bib. The sauce always always lands on my blouse or T-shirt and I always take a couple of quesadillas home so good! Plus it's a drive-through on top of it that's my go to, but I have sat on the patio, one of that hungry. I've been going there since I was a teenager. Wow I was so glad when I bought a home in Downey because I'd be close to El taco. After moving to Brea, I would still drive all that way for the quesadillas and the burritos are good too. They just know how to cook the meat. Have fun. read more

Absolutely the best chicken taquitos I've ever had, with loads of guacamole. And the best bean and cheese burrito, simple perfection. I'm not sure why no other place in town seems to be able to get that perfect melty cheesy goodness right. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid! I live for there breakfast burritos, there chunky nachos are to die for. The only thing I miss is the Old crew! I live far and the first thing I do when I come to Downey is stop and get myself a breakfast burrito, I've come by TWICE in the last 6 months and they're all rude. read more

Let me just start off by saying that this place is more on the Americanized fast food spectrum of Mexican food. So it's not exactly a place I'd recommend for traditional tacos. I would try going to Tacos Gavilán up the block. However, El Taco has a few strong points: CHILE RELLENOS!!; Drive-thru; taquitos/flautas w/guacamole; super nachos; chunky beef burritos; breakfast burritos; and CHILE RELLENOS!!! Honestly I mainly go there for drive thru Chile Rellenos and breakfast burritos. That's all I need. read more

Would have given 5 stars but there's this younger bigger guy with scruffy hair who has major attitude and makes you feel like you're bothering him. When i asked him to please make sure cheese was there he snipped yes at me (there was no cheese even after asking 3 times in tota).I think his name is cruz but not sure if that's him on the receipt. He rolls his eyes at you for asking for taco sauce (which he didnt give), snatches the card out of your hand and just gives a ton of attitude for everything. Maybe he's good at cooking but he shouldn't be working with the general public at all. Apparently my sister had a similar experience with him and his attitude. Honestly id recommend only going if he isnt there cuz the food is great but he isnt. read more

attitude out of control this am Taco sauce is counted and cashier is rude Red quesadilla no red sauce Spent 30 bucks to have to argue to get taco sauce, napkins, fork! This is ridiculously poor service and food quality has declined. Sad that after 20 years I will not be going back to El Taco! Save your money, time and energy avoid this place like they avoid giving you taco sauce! read more

The lady that works the drive through is unbelievable rude. Every time I come here she has a sour ass attitude. I thought it was just me but apparently I'm reading a lot of NEGATIVE reviews regarding her. Not only that but everyone I know that goes there mentions the rude lady taking orders. Maybe she shouldn't work the window is she is going to continue to have a nasty attitude with every customer. read more

El taco is by far one of the best Mexican fast food places in La County. You can't beat the prices, and the high quality food.l, and they always have quick service in the drive thru. My family loves this place and will drive 30 mins to get the food! My mom loves their bean and cheese burritos. I get their chicken enchiladas which are nice and cheesy with a lot of sauce every time. The burrito was good but needed more ingredients. The meat is high quality and their taquitos also never miss. read more

Decent place to get Mexican food. Food is ok, prices are reasonable. Drive through really a deciding factor for me. Convenient.

Yum! I've been coming here since I was a kid, it's delicious quick Mexican food. Love their taquitos, Chile relent burrito and bean and cheese burrito. Try their homemade salsa and the taco sauce packets. It's simple comfort food and I stop here every time I'm back in Downey. Love supporting local! read more

Excellent Mexican food. Beats most walk-in restaurants. Been going here since the 70s. The service is quick and professional. Perfect for a quick craving of Mexican food! Congratulations!! read more

Family has been going here is the 70s. Very sad they sold the orange location and closed the Firestone/Anaheim locations. This our absolute favorite place to eat and we are never disappointed. The legacy staff cooks everything to perfection. The kitchen is clean and neat. It is outdoor seating only at this location however there is a drive through. Food is always fresh, tasty and makes you want to come back. I hope this business can grow again and expand across the US. read more

Place smelled like my grandma's restroom (puro fabuloso) I couldn't breathe. The beans were not very authentic. Sun Vista can beans are better and i don't even like those either. If you're trying to watch your salt intake, I definitely wouldn't recommend going here. The food has so much salt, I was concerned my blood pressure would go up. Bottom line, I do not recommend eating here. Everything is overloaded with salt and seems canned rather than fresh authentic recipes read more

Never a disappointment. I've been a patron at this place since I was a teenager. Nothing like it. A gem in my book. Their prices are very reasonable and the food is quality. I usually order their chicken enchilada dinner plate and their red and green quesadilla. Their shredded beef taquito's are the best. I love that they serve orange bang. I am completely satisfied with the food and service at this taco stand. I definitely recommend trying them out. read more

We arrived at 9:40pm, they close at 10pm. As soon as we pulled in and got to the order speaker, they shut off the lights. Being that it was 20 til 10, we pulled up to the window, waited a few minutes and we got to the window at 9:44, they refused to take our order, kept signaling a throat cut I guess indicating they were closed. Ignored us, laughing among themselves at the fact we were requesting they take our order. Rude and unprofessional. Never retuning! I have a video, but couldn't load it. read more

Been coming here since I was a little girl. I am absolutely addicted and instead of getting it after school, this has now become my morning hangover spot I love this place. The only thing is I noticed portions getting a little smaller. Burritos are a little smaller than before and I've been seeing some new faces. Not sure if there's new management or something but as long as they don't cut corners on the ingredients I'm cool w it. Just an observation read more

Food is great! But they hired a gal around a year ago, she usually has her hair up in a bunt and is always in the drive thru window. Very few times is she in a good mood, but you can tell this job is not for her. She's rude and has a grumpy face most of the time. It's nice to get a nice greeting or at least a smile even a hello would be nice. I've been going to this El Taco since the 90's never have I ever had issues with the staff till now. read more

We go often to El taco to purchase their beef taquitos which are always very tasty. Today we decided to finally try some thing else off the menu we ordered a Carne Asada burrito. It was absolutely terrible. The tortilla at the ends felt like they were made of rock the burrito lacked any good flavor. The wait to be able to order in the drive-through was quite long as well yet the line was short. they seemed to skimp on the delicious guacamole that they put in the taquitos plate. We will most likely return for the taquitos and only the taquitos no more trying to venture and order outside our usual. read more

Been coming here for years...lately, my favorite thing to order is special that comes with two steak taquitos with guacamole sauce. The taquitos are nice and crispy with tender beef inside (not like those cheap frozen ones). Also comes with a side. I get the beans with cheese and onions. Beans are homemade...other than missing some bacon fat, they are pretty good. You get a drink too. Just enough to fill you up but not feel stuffed. read more

It is my only favorite drive thru mexican place! I love eating here any time I am in Downey! It is a must have if you love mexican food!

Never ever been here and I've been living in Downey since 1987!!! Well few weeks ago I decided to try it out, and I was extremely pleased! Thought the only Mexican joint I loved would be King Taco but I guess I have a second favorite! It's near my aunt's place and I hadn't eaten all day. I grabbed the quesadilla with red sauce, onions and sour cream and the beef taquitos with guac and sour cream and cheese. Both were amazing. So amazing that I had to go back to get more cause my mom and aunt and uncle ate all my food. I went back and got the same order but 2 of each! We finished it all! And also to my surprise, their salsa was delicious too. The roja that is. And best of all, they have ORANGE BANG!!! If you've lived in SoCal and never tried it, it means you've been hanging out with too many white people! Go explore other parts and enjoy life and drink some orange bang!!!! It's a life changing experience! So fucking amazing!!! read more

Red chunk burrito flavor is good but the size and price it completely ridiculous. The burrito is $6.78 and is the size of a taco Bell bean and cheese burrito. I've ordered this burrito before and it was small I didn't say anything but today was the final straw. At almost $7 really??? When I took it back the guy literally cut the old burrito poured the fillings out of it and put it in a new tortilla and added one small scope more. Won't be back unless they lower the price or up the portion. Avoid it if you want your money's work SMH. read more

I have been eating at El Taco for many many years. It's just not the same as it once was. They changed a lot of the recipes it seems because this is just not the El Taco of old days. The sauces are totally different and thin and runny. The food is just a very different in general. The workers seem to not want to be there either. They will hand you your drink without a straw, then slam the window shut with lightning speed so you can't ask them for anything. They then will ignore you, forever while you try and get their attention just to ask for something that should have been given with the drink. Annoying. read more
