To start off the food was delicious. I was in the mood for menudo. I enjoyed it because they didn't put much salt or spice so I added my own. It was perfect and fresh. Only thing i wished for was lemons not limes. It was paired with homemade white corn tortillas which I prefer yellow but these were delicious. The chips and salsa were good too! Fresh chips and home made salsa. I would describe this place as eating at my aunts house. I loved that I ordered in Spanish. The cashier worked with me as she knew i was trying. Lastly it was hot in there. I do appreciate the fan but it needed more fans. I look forward to coming again. I hope the workers know they were very sweet and we felt at home. read more

Every time I come here I'm reminded of real home Mexican cooking. The rice and beans are the first sign of true authentic Mexican food. The staff is super sweet, friendly, meek and humble. Got the grilled chicken plate and it was delicious! Fire grilled to perfection and it wasn't dry at all! Loved every bite! We also got a carne asada wet burrito which was ok, personally wasn't a fan, and the guac is not home made and spicy, so I'm glad i ordered the chicken plate. I just ordered the menudo to go and it was delicious. The tripe is cut thin and small and is very tender. I like the pata and the hominy as well. It comes with homemade corn tortillas as well as onion, oregano, chili and lime. Best menudo I've had in a long while. Glad it's open for to go orders during this trying time. read more

My parents brought tacos one night for dinner. I got two tacos al pastor. And I was surprised, they were pretty bomb I must say. The meat wasn't dry, but juicy and tender. The Tortillas were soft and the toppings of cilantro and onion were just right. Most taco spots over flow it with onion... Especially when they're to go orders. Sorry, poor poor service is what most comes to mind.... This place is slow and without common courtesies.... They forgot I had ordered the food and were not very apologetic about it. I came here for the flor de calabaza (zucchini flower) quesadillas and they were kind of watery. I have had them many times in the Cholula, Puebla area (where the best ones in Mexico are in my opinion) and I know what good flor de calabaza quesadillas are. The quesadillas here do not even compare with the slightly less better ones in Mexico DF. I am not criticizing the masa here. Just the way the quesadilla turns out. Mind you it is not anywhere you can find flor de calabaza quesadillas in Los Angeles so I will come back here again and hopefully they will do a MUCH MUCH MUCH better job.... What's better than a delicious Chile Relleno plate? Finding out that it is actually a chile and a half. How could I not love that? The restaurant itself is smallish, but charming. I had been here before for the menudo a couple of times. And i came back because it was good. BUT today that shit tasted like it was spoiled. I waited kid you not almost half hour for my order. There was only one customer before me. I was never out of courtesy told the wait was going to be long. When i got home with my order that thing smelled weird. No flavor. Never going back here. Well apparently this is the place families go after their youngest son makes bail and is let out of county. Seriously, there is even a bullet hole in the front window. A bullet hole! It's small, probably a 9mm, so no big deal, I guess? The food is just average. The green sauce tasted like it came from a can and the menudo was bland. The tortillas were pretty good though and you can tell they're hand-made. Very authentic Mexican food- just like the street vendors in Mexico would make it (if they had a a sink, some hot water & soap). Street tacos are available for $1.15 each, and there is an ongoing special for 4 tacos and a soda for around $4.50. For that early morning chili fire, try the chilaquiles or huevos rancheros. They also feature burritos, tortas and some MX City favorites such as Hurache, sopes, gorditas, alabres & pambazos. On a recent weekday, they were also featuring a homemade hot chocolate too (Champurrado)...mmmmm...... Actually, don't worry about the chili fire too much- El Azteca does not seem to turn on the burn the way some places do on their tacos, but they do offer some decent salsa via a salsa bar should you want to make your food mas chiloso. The restaurant is not exactly what you'd call modern or flashy, but it's clean and seems to be well-run. Figure on spending $5 to $10 for lunch and a little more for dinner (and more if you add a beer or three). read more

First and last time! Food was not good.. ordered the special of the day that was mole verde. It was $10 so I expected a good plate of food it was literally a plate full of mole and two small very small pieces of chicken and rice.. the rice had no flavor and the mole looked like gelatin. It was so gross. The cook and the lady making the tortillas were not at all polite so I believe the service was also bad.
