Carne asada platter (Al Pastor) Taco Salad (No beans) Bean Burrito (childrens plate)

This is true Mexican food. It is not fancy or amazing but it is exactly what I expect if I we're to sit down and eat at a restaurant in Mexico. Served on styrofoam plate and cups and you can order a beer with your meal. The location, I will give 1/5 stars. If you are intimidated by Black people, homeless or anything like that, then choose somewhere else. My family and I had absolutely no trouble with anyone there but we travel a lot and are used to these types of restaurants/environments. I picked this place because of the surrounding locations and businesses. The PRICE was extremely reasonable. I fed two grownups and a nine year and a beer for $26.00. Everything is very affordable and the most expensive thing on the menu was the carne asada plater (I had Al Pastor) which came out to be under $10.00.

Update: I recently went back to this place and the food was worse than before. The steak taco meat tasted bad...yuck! To the owner of this business: I want to love this restaurant because I come from Southern California where authentic Mexican street tacos are a staple food. Your food is average, not the worst, but, not the best either. However, I think you have what it takes to up your game. For example, you get points for making homemade rice & beans, BUT, they lack flavor. If you think Oklahoman's are spice phobic, add some salt. Better yet, blend them with some sautéed onion, tomato, a pinch of jalapeño and watch the flavor pop out. I ordered a few different things to give your restaurant a fair try. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito, carne asada taco, shredded chicken taco and rice. Here is what I thought: Chicken Taco: shredded chicken slow cooked in a tomato/onion sauce topped with ice burg lettuce, shredded cheese and wrapped up in a soft tortilla. This was my favorite item from this trip. You did good with this item. Carne Asada Taco: I liked that the meat was pre-seasoned but the meat was kind of dried out. Some of the best street tacos from Cali marinate their carne asada in a spicy beer bath. You might want to try the same. I liked that you grilled the corn tortilla. You should offer more raw onion and cilantro on top of the taco and provide a dried chile salsa with medium heat to finish it off. Rice: Obviously, your rice is homemade. I found it fixed my carb craving and the fluffy texture was perfect. However, the flavor was lacking a little bit here. I'd spice it up with a smidgen of salt, lime juice and fresh cilantro to kick it up a notch. Bean & Cheese Burrito: Mexico's version of the grilled cheese sandwich. If this was the first B&C for me...I'd forego in the experience going forward . Listen up, you gotta grill the tortilla! I got a bite of way too much stale lifeless tortilla. You need to use a good salty Mexican farm cheese like Cacique. Leave your homemade beans with a little more texture to show their made from scratch. One more thing, don't skimp on the cheese...nobody wants a bland stale bean burrito. If you heed my criticism and take steps to make these changes...I promise you'll begin to see your restaurant business take off. I have a friend in Cali who went from one single taco truck to several business locations throughout his county. I'll check back in a couple of months to see how you've faired. Wishing you success...because after all, I take pleasure in eating deliciousness.

Wet Fajita Burrito with beans & rice

Small local taco spot. Good tasty seasoned food, quick service!! Good size helping, the wet burrito with seasoned ground beef was loaded up and delish. No free refills and taco sauce is extra just FYI. But good little clean smelling hole-in-the-wall place.

Enchilada Plate

The reviews and pictures made this place look extremely good, however, that was not the case when I ate here. The tortillas were undercooked, the enchilada sauce was cold and nasty, and the rice was very mushy and salty. The soda machine was also down so we couldn't get a fountain drink. I had high hopes trying "California style" for the first time but this was not it. I hope it's much better actually in California. I don't recommend eating here if you want an authentic Mexican meal.

It is a good place for some quick tacos. Good not great. Yes it is true I have become a street taco snob. Tulsa has much better places. The meat was kind of bland on my Carne Asada mini tacos. The grilled chicken mini tacos are a bit better.

This is my go-to place for a delicious and affordable Mexican meal! Best chips in Tulsa! Seriously, they are so fresh and delicious. I also love the carnitas taco, but everything I've tried has been pretty good. I crave this place constantly. Eat here! (My only wish is that they would use less styrofoam, since it's so bad for the environment.)

I always get the same thing...marinated pork tostada. And it's always delicious. For me it's a meal. I usually can't eat it all.

There's a parking lot in this plaza, and we were seated immediately upon arrival. They offered complementary chips and dips (salsa and queso). We ordered additional guac. The chorizo queso is sooooo good! I ordered the birria taco plate and I'd say this is very authentic compared to food back home (California)! They were generous with the birria and the consome is chefs kiss!!! The staff did a wonderful job in assuring our needs were met and that we were satisfied. I hope this place is just renovating and hopefully will reopen in the foreseeable future. I would love to see this place continue to thrive!

Really good and would order again. Rice and beans were probably above average. My dining partner asked how the chile relleno was prepared. (He doesn't like the eggy batter.) We were literally told that it came premade and frozen and was "just fried." Obviously, he ordered the street tacos instead. We sat at the bar and it took a bit to get waited on but the manager jumped in and gave us water and silverware. I liked my Blackberry-Rosemary Marg but I honestly didn't feel like it had much tequila in it. The regular marg was just OK. Since it is a tequila bar and we sat at the bar, I would have liked to have discussed tequilas but my bad for not asking. Would have loved to have done a tasting. The menu was informative. I would go back when in south Tulsa. Not sure I would make it a destination. (Well, maybe. Those enchiladas were good! It is a cute place.

As what was stated over the phone, the moment we walked in, we were seated. The place is very intimate in space, I'd recommend for dates. I went with the Enchiladas, something I've been craving for a couple of months & La Tertulia helped that fix. There were a few meats to choose from & I went with chorizo. The wait on the food wasn't long (people were starting to fill in as well & it didn't stop the servers from being on point) & the food was really good. Coming in with 3 enchiladas, stuffed with the chorizo & the fixins, I was left full after I finished. The spanish rice & pinto beans were good as well, paired good with the enchiladas. The chorizo looked more like breakfast sausage more than the chorizo that's more on the dark brown + reddish tint I'm used too. The enchiladas also come with chiles (I picked green) & plenty of cheese. Side Note: Chips & salsa were also super good, my favorite type of salsa. Kinda like a Taquera/Molcajete style. I was so hungry that the chips & salsa didn't slow me down from running through my main entree.

It's well-worn but clean. Staff is quick and friendly. The prices are very reasonable. You'll leave full, but not bloated. I've been a fan of El Rio Verde for many years and always look forward to eating here. It's not a large place and only has perhaps four or five booths and a half-dozen tables, and it fills up fast at lunch. They're known for their "Wet Burrito," but the enchiladas and burritos are also outstanding. The refried beans are fresh and made in-house. The salsa is freshly made too and very good, but not memorable like the food. You'll see people from all walks of life eating here - couples, single moms with children, police officers, business people, blue collar workers, and everyone in-between. If you want really good Mexican food that is not TexMex or from a chain restaurant, try this place! You won't regret it! One of my favorite places in Tulsa. However, as of this review, be aware that Utica Avenue, just east of the restaurant, has been blocked to north-bound traffic only for water main replacement, so getting into the neighborhood is easier than leaving. Plan to go toward downtown on the service road next to I-244 for most efficient egress.
