Clean little place with better than average food. Bright table cloths that make the place festive. Friendly waitress. I had the famous Wet Burrito in chicken and my husband had beef. I think his was better than mine. He didn't like the sauce being so thin, I liked it and thought it made the burrito. The tortilla was good and the guacamole was good. We also got bottled coke. The value was very good, $5.99 for a huge plate of burrito. I wouldn't get the coke again, I couldn't drink all the coke after eating the whole burrito. They give you 1 small basket of chips and salsa. The salsa was ok, don't expect bottomless Tex Mex chips and salsa. I would have been happy with a half burrito and half coke with their little basket of chips. Think I will go back and try something different. It certainly is a place that only those "in the know" frequent- it's tucked away off a side street in North Tulsa, but once you get there... Tried the queso- it tastes like queso. It's quite good, because cheese by definition is quite good. I ordered the wet burrito; the menu touted it as the thing to get, so who am I to argue with success? I'd actually never had a chicken wet burrito before (is that weird?), and I found mine to be delicious! The chicken was delicious, and whatever they filled the burrito with was super super good. It had kind of a spicy kick at the end, which I liked a lot. This place is for enjoying food only. Probably not a hot spot for first dates. Or maybe even second or third dates. There isn't another Mexican restaurant in Tulsa like Rio Verde. This place seems like it's been pulled out of South San Antonio and teleported to Tulsa. The mysterious cosmic forces sent it to a spot in North Tulsa between a big field, some houses and a funeral home, seemingly by accident. In a crazy twist of fate, those same cosmic forces were actually so all knowing that they put it in a spot that by 2022 will be Tulsa's most up and coming neighborhood (bank on it). Now that I have the SyFy™ portion of this review done, let's get into why this place is so great. First up, the food is fantastic. They have a lot of authentic dishes that are great, but also their chimichangas are straight up amazing. Maybe chimichangas are authentic but let's be honest, taking a burrito and frying it sounds pretty American. If I'm not mistaken, taking foreign food and frying it was one of the primary tenets of Manifest Destiny. My favorite thing to get is a veggie burrito wet. That's a HUGE burrito, stuffed with veggies and then they smother it in enchilada sauce. It's delicious and I can pretend it is healthy because, you know, veggies. Their veggies are serious too, I mean the spinach in the spinach enchiladas is fresh spinach. Here are a few random tidbits that are helpful: for us serious vegetarians, the beans are vegan. That's right, no pork fat here. Alcohol is limited, mostly bottled beers. They may have sangria, I'm not sure. On the non-alcoholic side, they have Horchata. Delicious, creamy Horchata. You should try it. The service is great, the servers work communally so there are tons of people out to help. The patrons are super diverse, which I love. If you only go places where everyone looks like you, you're not doing life right. A good first step: come to El Rio Verde and get a wet burrito. read more

I've been going to ERV for years now and I will say that if you're looking for a filling and delicious mexican meal, I would suggest stopping by. The staff is incredibly kind and accommodating. The portions are huge for the price. The have a large selection of meats and always veggie alternative for most. Chips and salsa come with the meal, which is always a plus. The salsa is pretty great. My only bummer is the queso, it's not my first choice. It's thick but I would say go for the guac. My usual is the famous Wet Burrito, Veggie style. It's tasty and is the size of your face. I have been going here for years- it is one of the best authentic Mexican places in town - do not count the taco trucks!! Lol The salsa is mild and which I like but you can always ask for spicier. Definitely order some guacamole- super fresh, onions and tomatoes, hint of salt and lime. I like the simple chicken flautas or the Mexican tacos. Try chorizo or chicken, and ask for grilled onions instead of raw for another depth of flavor. If you like agua frescas, order horchata- sweetened rice milk. We definitely made El Rio Verde a target for one breakfast during our Tulsa trip. We went on a Sunday morning (9:15 am) and had no problem getting seated, but it filled up pretty well soon thereafter. This is a very nice, clean and well run Mexican café. We had excellent service. So far on this trip we had pretty much been able to avoid Tex-Mex. ERV continued that trend. This is an excellent place for Mexican breakfast (which is the only kind I eat anymore). Ms T ordered huevos rancheros. They serve two eggs, stacked on a corn tortilla with very good shredded beef in between. It came with very good, creamy, lardy refried beans and some shredded hash browns. I had my usual huveos con chorizo which were also very good. I passed on the papas and was given extra beans. I've been coming to El Rio Verde for at least 20 years, we'll before it was well-known. They are known for the wet burrito and for good reason. The prices are the best and haven't gone up much in those 20 years. They have a good selection of beers, Jaritos and other drinks to satisfy any taste. I like the litre bottles of Mexican Coke. And yes, there is a difference. The food is as authentic as it comes. The little ol lady who the give out her recipes so don't even ask. I really enjoy the Caldo de Pescado and Juevos Rancheros. The chicken wet burrito is the best in town as is the chicken chimichanga. The queso is cheesy with a bit of a bite, at least that's what my friends said. I didn't taste any bit though. The parking is a little odd, basically a patch of cement with tons of gravel, however the food and service defiantly makes up for it. Service is quick and straight forward. The place has a tendency to get packed really quickly, but what do you expect with one of Tulsa ' s best kept secrets!
