It was a great place to have a nice solo steak dinner in West Lafayette. I don't eat steak often, but when I do, I want it to be amazing. And my steak was amazing! I got the 8-ounce Linz Heritage filet, Sam Allen style, which meant that it also came with grilled shrimp and a chimichurri. Yum yum yum to all three things. I usually order my steak medium-well, but the server suggested medium, so I went with it. Good choice! My server was very wise, even though he looked like he was still in college. Along with the steak, I got a side of grilled mushrooms, which came in a brown sauce with chives sprinkled on top. But first: I started with an heirloom tomato salad, which was served with stracciatella cheese, basil and these cool balls that looked like roe, but were actually balls of balsamic vinegar. Fancy! It was fresh and light, and the perfect appetizer to get during a summer in Indiana, when them tomatoes be poppin'. I don't know why I'm reviewing my meal backward, but just go with me, people. Before everything, you get complimentary rolls and butter. Oh man! I could have made a meal just from the bread and butter, both of which were tender and soft, and so salty and flavorful. At the very beginning of my meal, I started with an Old Fashioned, because I read that Boilerhouse Prime is known for their Old Fashioneds. This one was well balanced, and came with a nice bourbon cherry. I also got a glass of Malbec along the way with my meal, which went well with my steak. This seems like an adults-only restaurant, but I was sitting close to a big table that had a family with kids, so well-behaved kids are definitely allowed, even though I did not see a kids menu.

Char on outside, raw on inside. Lovely. My American Wagyu bone-in strip was good, though it tasted no different than prime meat and did cost $95. I would have hoped for better than just 'good'. Family enjoyed most items. I sampled the wedge and really liked that. Probably best part of the meal. Oysters were excellent. Drinks are always good here. They have upgraded their rum list and have some high quality ones now. That's great! Service is always top notch. I will definitely be back for happy hours. The food at this restaurant is good. The Boathouse Restaurant in Winona Lake has good food and a nice view of...Winona Lake. You can find them about 45 minutes west (driving highway 30) of Fort Wayne near Grace College (see map). The restaurant is set right on the lake. It is also nestled by some cute shops (The Village at Winona) for pre or post dinner browsing. The Boathouse Restaurant's lake views come in a covered patio (see picture). You are right on the lake. All diners can see the water from their table. The patio is enclosed much like a four season room. You can catch the breeze off the water when the windows are open. Or you can shut the windows and pull the shades if the temperature and sun light isn't to your liking. I'm sure this would still be a great view in the cooler fall and spring seasons. The Boathouse is a large restaurant. However, I would encourage reservations via their web site. You can reserve the patio, bar or main dinning areas. The facility is nicely decorated in that boat theme. Lots of attractive hardwoods and lake colors. We found the restaurant to be very comfortable and relaxing. The menu is very large - something for everyone (see menus). Chicken, steak, pasta, salads, wraps, bowls, burgers, seafood - they have it. Prices are reasonable (steak $30+, chicken $23+, burgers $16+). We have been here a couple times. Each time the food was delicious and the service was what you would expect. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Table Bread: multigrain bread, served warm and soft, easily pulled apart; nice soft creamy butter accompaniment -Side Salad: simple salad, smaller in size; very fresh with a few side veggies (cucumbers, tomatoes, onion and shredded Parmesan cheese; crunchy croutons; homemade 1000 Island dressing was thick with a smooth taste -Burrito Bowl: my wife loved the fresh lettuce and peppers; chicken was nicely grilled, moist and slightly seasoned; rice was perfectly cooked with a firm consistency -Tenderloin (special menu item): outstanding!
