What a find!!! My family loved our visit to Riviera Maya Lafayette!! We were traveling from Appleton, Wi to North Carolina and wanted to find a nice place for a fun meal before stopping for the evening. Normally I list the positives and negatives, but I really didn't have anything negative to say. Ambiance - one word... FUN!!! It's well decorated and just a lively atmosphere. Bright lights but also decor of a Mexican temple. They had fun, vibrant almost Latin Club music playing so it was upbeat and lively. Service - the service was great. I had seen some reviews complaining but we had nothing to complain about. On a Saturday night at 7:30 we were seated immediately. The waiter took drink orders, came back to get food orders, and checked on us throughout our visit. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Food - probably some of the best Mexican food I've had!! The chips. - nice and thick and crisp. Could have used more salt but I know many places allow people to salt to their own taste. Homemade Hot Sauce - great flavor and a good amount of heat. I really enjoyed it. Ribeye Tacos - delicious. The onions and jalapeños were cooked perfectly. Even the rice was some of the best I had. Highly recommend putting some of the house hot sauce on it. Pastor street tacos - another delicious dish. The combination of the pastor and pineapples with cilantro and onion was perfect. Fajita Salad - had a bite of my daughter's food and it too was good. A good combination of vegetables and meat that I would consider for next time. Overall I would love to stop back here another time if I'm passing through Lafayette. Came in with a small group on a Saturday evening and had an overall okay, not great, experience. Pros - Quanity of my burrito was enormous (see photo) - Speed of food prep and delivery was great. - Salsa was GREAT Cons - A bit overpriced - Service (as mentioned by others) wasn't great. - Found it odd that only every other person gets a menu (there were 7 of us and we got 3 menus as that is how they do it...so took a little longer to be ready to order) Otherwise a nice place, fun vibes, and good food for a night out. read more

Lovely, large well appointed restaurant. Large difficult menu. Seemed awkward the way it was set up. Not sure whether wait staff don't listen or kitchen doesn't understand orders. Meal was not right when brought to table by a server. When waitress came, she recognized right away that it was not correct. Corrected it - incorrectly! Not going to make a fuss. Just made sure she knew. Food was tepid although cautioned plate was hot. Margarita was very good but not sure it was what I asked for. The smallest one is way too large to enjoy and then drive. In West Lafayette on a random Friday, I wanted to take my son and his friend out to lunch, and since they wanted Mexican, we decided to give the Riviera Maya Grill a try. On entering the establishment, I immediately loved the Mayan vibe, which felt really fresh and uniquely different from the standard Mexican restaurant. After looking over the menu, we ordered the Burrito Maya for me, a chicken quesadilla for my son, arroz con carne for his friend, and a cheese dip for the table. Before tax and tip, our bill came to a pretty typical no-drinks lunch of $35.22. In short order, our cheese dip arrived, and was soon followed by the rest of our lunches. We universally agreed that our meals looked and tasted great! However this is where our dining experience went off the customer service rails, as we never saw our server again until he wordlessly dropped off our bill. Never once did he ask how our food was (it was great!), or ask if we wanted refills on our water (we did!), or even ask if we wanted more chips. We ended up wasting half or more of the six buck cheese dip, because we ran out of chips to eat it with. PROS: great ambiance, good to great tastes, decent portion sizes, reasonable prices CONS: It would be an understatement to say that we received bad service at the restaurant. Rather than being a 'server,' our waiter was more like a 'dropper-offer' as he only dropped things off (cheese dip, meals, bill) and never asked how the food was or offered us refills. Overall, we rate Riviera Maya Grill as being OK and might or might not come back. The relative strength of the kitchen is the only thing that saved our meal from being a 1-star dining experience as the lack of service otherwise completely killed it for us. read more

To start the food is worse than Taco Bell. The service is terrible. For some reason the manager decided to serve multiple people who were sat after us and they even finished their food and left before we got ours. We are not Caucasian and they all were, not sure if it was discrimination or just bad service but inexcusable to see multiple tables sat after you, get food eat pay and leave and you still haven't got your food. Then after waiting an hour we asked where our food is and got some strange excuse. Finally after waiting the food was flavorless over cooked, and terrible. Not worth any wait. Taco Bell is better than this. The place is loud, no music, hard seats, uncomfortable, no sauce, no napkins, just terrible. Do not recommend. Avoid. read more

This used to be my go-to restaurant while out running errands. The salsa is delicious and the food has always been on point. I have been super disappointed the past two times with the service and bill. They have the machine that you pay at your table, but you can't see what you're paying for until after you pay. The last two times I have been charged for items I didn't order. When I addresses it, they have acted like I was wrong. For example, last night I had a water and my husband asked for the Michelada special ($5). We were charged for a soft drink and a $13 Michelada. The time before that my son and I both had water and we were charged for two soft drinks. The morale of this is to ask to see your receipt BEFORE you pay on the card machine! read more

The food was excellent, and the service was even better. The staff stayed attentive and aware of their customers and were very kind and understanding. The food somehow managed to be even better than the service--which is hard to do. I ordered the enchiladas with chips and left feeling full and happy. Thank you for the great service. This place was a huge hit--we loved the food, and the portions were gigantic! If you're going there, I recommend ordering one meal for two people if you're not too hungry. Unlike some previous reviewers, I found the billing to be very transparent; I could clearly see what I was paying for (maybe they fixed the issue after some earlier complaints). Been in town for 5 weeks. Just tried Riviera Maya. Wished I had come sooner. Had chicken chimichangas, so good. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The tortillas was fresh and flaky. Very often the chicken is dry even with tomato onion and peppers. Not this one. The flavor was right there with the first bite. I ordered extra sour cream, did not need it. The side of guacamole was creamy and full of flavor. The salad and chips were delicious. The chips thin but sturdy and I wondered about the salsa. It looked like tomato sauce. Nope. Came here to celebrate cinco de Mayo. It started off rocky, but then a very good experience! I had lots of fun. The food is very delicious and hot. The menu is massive so it's a lot to choose from. I ordered the carnitas plate with beans and rice. The meat was very tender and the beans were whipped just like how I like it. For my drink I ordered the house margarita and they put good amounts of alcohol so it was definitely on point! It was very busy since it was a popular celebration day. The service was a little rusty but our server was a sweetheart. We had a little issue but the owner came over to help and he was definitely amicable and professional. They made our experience epic and a night to remember. The Dorbel tequila they had us try was very smooth, I will have to purchase be a bottle of it. The ambiance is perfect! It's a very live restaurant and quite busy. I like the decor and how tall the booths go to have distance from others. It's pretty spacious and good for special occasions. Great ambiance and good food but recently the staff has been rude. They want to start adding a 3.5% charge when you use a card. The over priced food should be enough to cover the 3.5% fee. Anyway the server brought our receipt to us and it had the card fee. We said we were paying cash and took it to the front to pay. We had a coupon so he re rang it up and still charged us the card fee. I said we paid cash and I was told I could only get one discount. HA!!!! Screw you I'll never go back. Amazing food & service! We loved this place. Kitchen is a bit slow but the food is 100/100 worth the wait! Everything from the grill is flavorful and has perfect amount of charcoal or burnt taste. Shrimp ceviche has sooo many shrimps and the sauce is on point. Anything with seafood is packed with seafood and honestly I wasn't expecting seafood to taste this good in the Midwest! We just had the weirdest dining experience. Our server and overall service felt like a Saturday Night Life skit As we ordered she kept saying the order like it was a question. One of the people in the party ordered a chimichanga and she exclaimed " ohhhhh nooooo". We were like is there a problem? She was like it is too big. It just kept getting stranger. Another order for a specific drink on their menu and she was like what is that? It was a mojito. The food was mediocre. My fish tacos were light on fish. It was supposed to come with a spicy tomatillo sauce that was forgotten. She brought the food out one dish at a time with a lot time between each plate. The appetizer the came out first was wrong. Look...this was definitely a one star experience but I'm giving it two stars because the service was SO BAD it ended up being completely comical and we all couldn't stop laughing the entire time... The waitress was completely and totally clueless. She didn't know anything on the menu put some orders in wrong and was really...CLUELESS. She literally said, "What? That's on the menu?" for several items ordered. I ordered a Tropical Margarita...then she came out and asked what flavor I wanted...I said "the Tropical..." and she insisted I had to choose a flavor and said I could get orange juice, so I said fine orange. I definitely received a peach margarita... We ordered jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks, which came at the END of the meal...but we received JALAPEÑOS and mozzarella sticks... On to the food...it was terrible. The chips were cold and stale. The queso was sharp and missing everything that the menu said came in it. The meat in my chimichanga was both dry and greasy at the same...a feat that defies the laws of physics. Oh well...I definitely will never return but I did have a great laugh! My hubby got the soft chicken with rice & beans. They have plenty of parking so it is easy to visit them. The inside is beautiful and the music is great! This was our first time visiting Riviera Maya and the three stars is not necessarily for anything bad, but rather for just being average. The service was fine and the seating was in accordance to new health department guidelines. The decor is straight out of the "Mexican restaurant in a box" catalog. If you have been to Lindo Mexico or El Rodeo or.......you have seen this interior. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and accidentally got it with the shredded chicken. That means it came with all of the peppers and onions in it. That is my fault. The refried beans were good, and the chips that you get for free we're good as well. The salsa was nothing spectacular. Our Margaritas were average normal Mexican restaurant margaritas. If you are on the east side of Lafayette and do not want to travel to El Mason, Lindo Mexico, or some of the other restaurants in town, then your Mexican fix will be fulfilled by going here. Again, nothing bad, just generally average. Next time, we will make the trip to El Mason. read more

As I park, the staff comes rushing out noticing a smoke trail of fire. Couple bushes were burning but they were quick enough to get water and stop the fire! The place is brand new and already firing on most cylinders. Good job with masks and distancing. Some of the best salsa I've had in a restaurant. I had the enchiladas Cancun aka shrimp enchiladas. They were amazing. Great flavors and not drenched in sauce. Served with beans and rice, both tasty. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well. Service was good but I think they were a little overwhelmed by a big dinner rush. We had to wait a few minutes for refills. Also, so new that their liquor license isn't active. We love this place so much that we eat here a few times a month. Everything is reasonably priced, especially their margaritas. My favorite is the Western jalapeño and the Mango. We typically get their faijitas because it's so much food we can share it. With my husband being gluten free, he can eat the corn chips with salsa, and for the faijitas we get the corn tortillas. The service is always quick and we are amazed at how fast the food comes out. They have a cute patio area, where we love to sit during the warmer days.
