Everything was fresh and great tasting. This is a small hole in the wall Mexican diner. Order first and then sit at the restaurant next door. Had some different Mexican foods in addition to burritos and tacos. The Cheese and beef pupusa- thick griddle cake made with cornmeal and stuffed with cheese and chicken. Also served with picked cabbage (sorry no photo). Was great, but thick tasting due to the cornmeal. Liked it enough that I would order again. The sopas were also very tasty and I would order again. The tacos were a great price at $2.99 each, sorry forgot to take photo- my crew was hungry. Ice cream for dessert- $3.50 landed us 3 scoops of homemade ice cream. They also have a variety of fruit drinks and shaved ice desserts with fruit. I would definitely recommend this place for hungry students as it's near Purdue University. read more

This place used to be a nice spot, first of all the prices have gone up which is fine if the food actually lived up to the cost. The food quality has gone down terribly, all of the sorbet is now made from artificial junk. The beef has been switched to the cheapest commercially available and is chewy. This is a small place and the parking wasn't the best but you can tell it is a local favorite. The staff was very friendly. We ordered the asada quesadilla and asada burrito. They were very delicious and big portions. We also ordered a Limon agua which taste very good and refreshing. My son ordered a mangonada and it was so delicious. We were so hungry by the time we ordered that I forgot to take pictures of our food. But I did remember to take a picture of the mangonada. This place is a must if you are ever in the area. I am so glad we came across this restaurant while visiting Purdue University. My family and I love Mexican food and my teenage daughter is a al Pastor fan. Amazing lil hidden Mexican spot with unusual variety of quality traditional and predictable menu items, sadly didn't get the time for dinner even though heard great things on the tacos here so can assume it's a proper feast for hitting dinner, really surprised at the ice cream! Unusual and sublime original tubs of Hispanic creations, Mexican cake, chocolate, tequila, and many interesting looking options with bright fun colors displayed in the usual lineup of kid friendly glass. I was excited to get some samples, both the cake with it's treat of red fruity ooze painting the yellow ice cream and the plain white looking tequila made for instant addictions and entirely more flavor forward sugar fixes than any other, right up there with Silver Dipper! We had a gang of over 12 celebrating a birthday party, most of the kids went for the mangollada, couple tried basic ice cream in cones and chocolate shakes, I panicked from excessive options and settled on horchatta. Interestingly the chocolate shakes were not really shakes at all but a fun blend of cocoa syrup and maybe condensed milk. No complaints even from the hardcore boys used to Culver's and DQ! There is such a fun and bright atmosphere here that invites all to enjoy new culture and taste alternative ingredients. This hole in the wall is a great treat! I've never had any Mexican desserts so went here with the goal of trying out Mexican ice-cream. Ended up getting a Mangonada AND Esquites. Definitely very different. The mango ice cream in the mangonada was super yum, creamy, and fresh! And the Esquites definitely had a kick. What a delightful discovery. Mango Loco marries superb authentic Mexican stand-by's like pupusas, burritos, sopes and tacos with a world of hand-made ice creams and treats. The tacos were among the best we've had. Generous portions and super tasty, this is a family restaurant where you can really feel the love. We had to forego the cabeza because they had several *hours* yet to go in slow cooking them. Your mouth watering yet? The ice creams have seemingly every delicious fruit in Mexico (tequila's a fruit, right?). You can't dine in but take out is available. The tacos are seasoned perfectly and the portions are more than enough. Their aguas frescas are made to order so they are always fresh and delicious. Try the agua de sandia, you will not regret it. Their homemade paletas and ice cream are tasty and they have unique flavors. One of my new faves is fresa y vainilla---it's like a Mexican creamsicle but with strawberry. Lastly, the owners are super sweet. This is hands down the best place in Lafayette. The food is delicious, the ice cream is so good, but above all that the people are great. They are so friendly and they are willing to modify anything for you. Example, I love empanadas and especially their empanadas locas, I asked one time if it was possible to get them but without frying them. Sure enough they were able to get me the filling in smaller tortillas. Another example, I like to get the escamocha which is a huge bowl of fresh fruit that is covered in crema, but one day (10 pounds later) I decided I want to have it without the cream. Sure enough I get the beautiful bowl of fresh cut fruit with no cream. The reason I appreciate all that is because I've been to all type of restaurants around here and I don't dare to change a thing. I usually would get the "we can't do that", "we don't do that", "that will be extra but also not the way you want it". Bottom line, best place and best people ever . Great food and super nice staff. Everyone is very health conscious and kind when we pick up our orders. Quesadillas and tacos are great. The only tip I have is to get the Chile or Tajín on the side so you can choose how much is on your elotes. I got a lot on mine last time and next time I'll ask for it on the side. read more

Mango Loco is a pretty nondescript storefront in a small corner strip mall. There are entrances to the parking lot on both Sagamore parkway and Greenbush street. Given the relative unimpressiveness of the exterior, the inside was very nice. Fresh looking paint. A drop ceiling without stains and holes. A nicely appointed wall splitting the dining are from the kitchen area. Tables that didn't wobble....I gotta be honest, I expected the decor to be "shithole mexican" but it was really nice. Service was not too fast, but not too slow. Really nice guy serving and I glimpsed a woman who i think was doing the cooking, so having two employees is already a step up on some small Mexican restaurants I've patronized around town. I ordered Chicharrones Preparados, a mixed (pork and cheese) Pupusa, Steak Tostada, Marinated Pork Sope. The Chicharrones Preparados was pretty bad. Mind you, I think they did the item right, but I was thinking it was a big pork rind with stuff on top from what I saw on the menu. Turns out it is a big fake pork rind, topped with stuff, that is also topped with pickled/soft pork rinds. The soft pork rinds just did not work for me. Swing and a miss. Pupusa was very soft, had a good sauce with it and was filling. Pretty bread-y, FYI. Steak Tostada was the best item. Very crunchy tortilla, nice tomato slice covered in Mexican cheese sprinkles and an avocado slice all with some crema and lettuce. Excellent item. The sope was also very good. The marinated pork (aka Al Pastor) had pineapple chunks in it which surprised me. I didn't dislike it, just surprising. Overall the item was delicious. No chips and salsa were served at 11:30 a.m. Price-wise this place is very cheap. $16 after tax for an appetizer, three small items & and a side. My daughter enjoyed her rice, but the beans were pretty weird. A combo of whole pinto beans in a sauce of refried beans. Not good. Mango Loco is worth a try. I was leaning towards three stars, but because of how cheap their food is, I went with four. read more

I have been looking for a real Mexican Restaurant in the Lafayette/ West Lafayette area. I think I have finally found it. It is almost across the street from Taco Rico's, on the corner of Greenbush and Sagamore Parkway in the strip mall there. No I can not say that much yet, because I went with my two daughters for their Friday Taco deal. The tacos are now $1.25, up from $1.00 like they were a year ago. I had three tacos, a beef, pork and chicken. The all were very, very good. In fact they are the best Mexican food I have had anywhere in this area. My daughter had the enchiladas, and they were good, but not as good as the tacos. One of my daughters had some lemonade which was very good, and the other had a mango milkshake, which was out of this world. After being there for a while, I realized I had finally found the right place. The entire time we were there, we were the only people there who had not been born in Mexico, or some other Hispanic country that had come in. I am looking forward to going back, and trying some of the other things they have, but it is going to be hard to stay away on Fridays for their great tacos at a fantastic price. read more

Went there for the first time today with a friend because they have this special where it is $1 Taco on Fridays. They had chicken, beef, and pork tacos and it comes with a mild sauce and a hot sauce with some limes. I would said these are better tacos than you would get at Taco Bell. It is also freshly cooked. They also have various flavor of ice cream and drinks to serve. I tried this mix with a mix of ice cream, semi-sour sauce, and chill pepper...which is fair...depending on your taste, though I would say the sour sauce kind of drown the taste of the ice cream. read more

Went here for Friday Tacos. Price is no longer $1. They're $1.50, so I opted for the steak burrito ($6.99) and mangonada ($5.99). My boyfriend got the steak torta ($5.50). The burrito was huge and delicious. Better than most Mexican restaurants I've been to. The mangonada had too much chamoy for me but still good flavor.
