Great! Fresh and well balanced slightly sweet horchatta that's filtered well. My beans, rice, and proteins were way better than many other similar places in the area. El Charro had an awful kitchen fuel aroma sticking to all their beans and rice which sadly made their fajitas unedible. Here, no! I was reminded of the best of Mexican cuisine, soft and rich; flavors and spices done just right to point out why sometimes the restaurant can do much better than throwing something from a sad box in the microwave. I've enjoyed two visits so far. We have had tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas I think, and all made well though of course value has fallen given the lowest prices food ingredients here. This is a bright spot and sitting in a good location. Staff was pleasant, friendly, served our dishes quick. Can easily recommend up there with Nom Noms Taco Tuesdays and El Nopal! read more

Reina is my favorite server and Chuy is a great chef. I mainly go for Taco Wednesdays and order about six tacos and a couple of beers and I'm definitely delighted to be there. Sometimes I order quesadillas and just drink beer. Sometimes I go before 4pm and skip Taco Wednesdays because I think paying full price for tacos is worth the price. The dining area feels like a family diner. However, for the amount of people who come in everyday, there aren't enough seats. No matter. This is my favorite Mexican place around Purdue, with my second favorite being Dos Amigos (For their endless week day food deals). Absolutely delicious and family owned from what I can tell. When I went with my friends, the service wasn't quick since it's just the family members taking your order, but I think that's completely reasonable. You sit wherever you want and the service was very prompt here. I ordered the taco dinner with al pastor tacos and my partner ordered the torta dinner with a barbacoa taco. I'd say the food was about a 3.5/5, the food was decent but I wouldn't say it blew me away. I did reallyyy enjoy their horchata though but it could use a little more cinnamon! Overall, for traditional Mexican food, it fulfills my cravings and I would definitely come back at least to try their lengua tacos. All the tacos were really tasty, and not to mention the Wednesday $1.50 tacos are a STEAL. Would recommend getting takeout and ordering like 10 of their delicious tacos. My favorite taco was the steak taco, it was super good. All of the other tacos were also really good but the steak taco stands out to me. I really gotta try their other tacos as well. The chips were somewhat stale and had not been made recently or even heated up, not too much of a complaint though. For a table with your people we initially got a small order of those chips and a tiny bowl of salsa, that was something to note. Their queso isn't bad but it got super "solidified" really quickly. Service was really slow, I mean really slow. The restaurant was filled with customers so I wasn't surprised. I think they had maybe 2 servers handle 10+ tables so props to them. Honestly would just recommend getting takeout. Service was never bad though! It was just slow. We went to this place during lunch hours on a Monday. It was recommended to us by a local and it's apparently family owned and operated. Located in a strip mall we almost missed it. We were greeted by a lovely lady working outside that could be Salma Hayek's younger sister before we even entered the restaurant. A brief flashback of "Fools Rush In" ensued, and we went inside. Upon entering we saw the plain and clean dining area. Several patrons were Mexican, so the food is probably authentic. We asked for a table for five and were quickly accommodated in a small separate room adjacent to the main room. Before we knew it we were given complimentary nachos and delicious salsa and sauces. Mmmmh! Soft drinks were a can, a cup of ice and a straw. For $3. No complaints! There is a wide variety of Mexican dishes, although some meat choices are unusual to see on a menu, like tongue or even guts! But authentic means authentic, so watch out what you order! I ordered the burrito ahogado with steak, and it was some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! It was filled with a generous amount of steak and other fillings, and the sauce was incredible! I told the waitress that "el burrito estuvo maravilloso!", eliciting a Spanish response. I left the place with a big smile, a happy stomach and without a dent in my wallet. After a long walking tour of Purdue University, my son was starving. We decided on this restaurant after reading reviews. It's in a very small, nondescript center. It seems like it's family owned as they were eating dinner at a corner table. When we walked in the son got up and told us we could sit anywhere. The mother brought us chips & salsa. We had to flag someone down for water as neither took a drink order from us. I had wanted a combo--taco & enchilada but didn't see it offered. My son ordered the taco dinner (3 tacos, rice & beans) and I ordered the enchilada plate (3 enchiladas, rice & beans). We're from So Cal and have excellent Mexican food so we didn't have high expectations but were pleasantly surprised. My son enjoyed his chicken tacos. I had two chicken and one steak enchilada. Skip the steak as it was very fatty and there wasn't much of it. However, the chicken enchiladas were nicely filled and tasted great. The rice & beans were the typical side dish. When we walked in there was only one other group eating in the restaurant but a number of people picked up to-go orders while we were eating. I'd recommend eating at this restaurant, just don't order the steak option. read more

One of our go-to places in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area for Mexican food! I have not tried the food truck, but we have eaten at the physical location many times. The Ambiance is just a small Mexican restaurant. Good service. Family run business with a great feel. The thing that keeps making me go back is the food is fire. Since someone already posted the menu, I've reposted the most important part: the meat choices for tacos. We tried the chorizo, the pastor, and the beef. All three were perfect. I personally preferred the chorizo, but honestly, the pastor and the beef were outstanding. Tacos are served in the Mexican tradition of being topped with lettuce, onions, tomato and cilantro. But for those of you who prefer Tex-Mex, you can switch out the corn tortilla for flour and have cheese added if you want. This place is top quality and the real story here is the value. My entire dinner of three tacos was only $8.25 and it's so much food I don't think I can ever eat again...until tomorrow :). It's located across from Ace Hardware in West Lafayette. West siders are lucking out! We will be back soon and I suspect we'll become regulars in 2023. read more

Two tacos, a side of beans, chips and salsa, and a can of coke was $10.70. The barbacoa and carnitas were excellent. I would recommend both. I am from southern california and was so sad after trying all the bad mexican food in lafayette. I am SO glad i tried this place! This is my second time coming back. Their food is authentic and delicious! The meat is so well seasoned and tender, and the different sauces they make are so fun to add to the meal. This place makes me so happy after a visit, there is no where else in Indiana I will eat mexican food. Also as a college student you can't beat the price. They don't skip out on the meat and they give you a complimentary first round of chips and salsa. Located really close to a lot of stores and super convenient if you need dinner after doing errands. I visited here with my girlfriend on July 10th. We arrived between the lunch and dinner rushes, so we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. I ordered a quesadilla with chicken and my girlfriend ordered the chimichanga dinner. While we waited, we had some amazing tortilla chips and homemade salsa. The main courses arrived quickly and were cooked to perfection. The portion sizes are extremely generous, especially with all the sides that come on the plate in addition to the main course. The quesadilla was so big it completely filled the top half of the dinner plate and the chimichanga was best eaten with a fork and knife. I managed to finish mine, but my girlfriend had half a chimichanga to bring home for a snack later on. A great meal at a fantastic price! read more

Chaparritos is emerging as the "go to" spot for excellent Mexican food. While they got their start with the food truck (which is generally parked in front of Home Depot in Lafayette), they've expanded to an actual restaurant, located on the westside near campus. Generally very busy at lunch, I was able to find a seat and was pleasantly greeted by the staff with a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. The chips were decent but felt like they were a tad overcooked. The salsa, while fresh, was solid. Along with the chips, they served other sauces to go with the meal. The green sauce has a very earthy, grassy flavor while the red sauce has a bit more spice and would be considered more of a traditional hot sauce. The menu is extensive, carrying anything from tacos, tortas, burritos, fajitas, soup, and so much more. I ordered the 3 taco platter that came with rice and beans, which arrived super hot. The rice and beans were a bit above average but the homemade tortilla shells were really good. Chaparritos offer 10 different kinds of meat choices. While I wasn't hungry enough to try all ten, I did order two additional tacos for a great cross section of food. All of that was way too much food for me to eat but who is going to complain about receiving too much food! As the lunch crowd cleared out, it was obvious that Chaparritos is a hit. I will also add that they do serve beer, but no margaritas. Nestled away from campus, it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles like other restaurants but it doesn't need to because the food stands on its own. read more
