Ive never dined in, only carry out. Food tastes delicious and I can honestly say I've never had anything missing from my take out orders. The hostesses and servers are always friendly and kind when I pick up the food. Sometimes the sides can be small... especially the mashed potatoes. Can be a bit on the pricier side, but 9/10 worth it. read more

Had a sign saying seat yourself, once seated we were asked to move tables. Had a very long wait over 30 mins to get our drink orders. Over an hour to receive our food. Drinks not refilled. The chicken sandwich had a metal wire in it that my wife bite into. Eveny with all of these issues not one time did a manager come to our table. The bourbon chicken was super dry and tossed in to a heavy sauce. Will never recommend this place nor will return read more

I have been going to Oak and Barrel since they opened. We took friends this Saturday and were truly disappointed. We ordered the same appetizer as usual and it was very over cooked. The prime rib was undercooked. The order took 80 minutes to arrive and they were out of several items we tried to order for a 6:30 reservation. Waitress was not very attentive during the waiting for our food. I don't know what has changed, but we were definitely disappointed. read more

It's a farm to table restaurant which is a plus for me. Walk in and you get the rustic feel right away. Found the menu to be AMAZING we wanted the Cajun Alligator but they were out so we ordered the Lobster stuffed mushrooms which was an excellent choice. I came for the BREADED PORK TENDERLOIN and let me tell you it did not disappoint at all and a Great value for $14 with homemade pickles and pickled red onions. The Hubby had Wagu Beef Taco's he said the meat melted like butter. It was busy in the bar area but our server Jessica was on point with the care she gave us. Would it be a return trip heck yeah just wish it was closer read more

Tonight was our first time here and we are already planning a trip back. We were seated right away, waited on immediately by Fonda who was very attentive, friendly and helpful when we were deciding on our selections. My husband ordered a Coors light and I got a Blueberry Lemondrop which was very tasty and arrived quickly. We chose the crispy Cajun alligator and lobster mushrooms as our appetizers and were not disappointed. Our dinners were the Hoosier Pork Tenderloin with sweet potato fries and the surf and turf. The tenderloin was large, well seasoned and my husband enjoyed the toppings it came with. The sweet potato fries had a bourbon maple mayo for dipping... hello my new friend! The Surf and Turf consisted of 3 filet medallions (prepared just as I ordered) and 3 huge seasoned, grilled shrimp. Grilled onions, mushrooms and onion straws on top and I got the whiskey peppercorn cream on the side. Asparagus and smoked Yukon potatoes rounded out the meal. I took a portion of it home along with a slice of pumpkin cheesecake we'll share later. This was a great dinner experience for us from the moment we entered until we got in our car to leave. Every employee we encountered was polite and professional and they worked together seamlessly to ensure things were running smoothly. The bathrooms were very clean and the decor was warm and tasteful. I can't say enough good about our experience here read more

We were at least hoping for a place with a good drink selection and decent food. What we found was Oak and Barrel, with locally sourced food options, an impressive menu, and bourbon selection, wine, plus house made desserts. I selected the brisket meatloaf, which was topped with whiskey peppercorn cream, horseradish and crispy potato, served with cheddar mashed potatoes. Mr. R had the smoked prime rib. Both meals were very good, and I couldn't get over the crispy potatoes topping! It had a similarly to cellophane noodles, but even more delicate, and much more flavorful. I drank the Italian Cabernet, which was nice, and a large pour of wine. We sat at the bar, and the staff was bustling, but we were constantly checked up on though not in an obtrusive way. The bar area has a warm log themed vibe. They feature special apps, dinner features, and cocktail specials. The night we visited there was a margarita flight. This was an unexpected find in Monticello but it's one we'll be talking about for sure! read more

I don't make reviews but I had to we sat down 20 minutes go by no waiter another waiter had to get one for us no refills had to ask we were there for 2hrs and no food was served we left after 2 hrs there was many people in the kitchen I should have looked at the reviews first read more

The food was incredible. I had the Parmesan crusted chicken. Family member had the fish and chips. The service was very good. Our food took a little longer than planned and without asking, we were given a free dessert! We honestly didn't even wait that long. Prices are a little on the high side, but I would come back again for the quality of the food and service. Willing to pay a little more when the food is this good! Entire experience was very very good! Also appreciated sitting next to the warm fireplace on this cold day! read more

Have been wanting to give this place a try for quite some time. We finally decided to head over and check it out. Very nice place and we ended up setting in the outdoor seating area. Nice atmosphere and a beautiful evening. I decided on the surf and turf for my meal. I ordered my steak with warm pink center instead of saying medium because I've been on a run of overcooked steaks. Once we got our order in it took probably an hour to get our food. That was not an issue as we were there with friends and it was a perfect evening to set outside. My steak showed up and was really over cooked, absolutely no pink and no juice, was very dry. Another I was with ordered his medium and was perfectly done. I showed the waitress and she said she could get me another, I told her we didn't have another hour to wait. I ate 1 of the 3 medallion fillets and just couldn't eat any more. They offered to give me a free dessert, but I try not to eat that kind of stuff so said no thank you. Very disappointed in this experience and unfortunately will probably be one and done for me. $170 for 2 entrees a couple drinks and tip and had to hit Wendys on the way out of town for a sandwich. Too bad as really is nice place and friendly wait staff but my steak was very bad. read more

Very disappointing experience. The burger had almost no seasoning and tasted very plain. The Caesar salad looked like it came straight from a bag of salad mix, thrown on a plate with some plain cooked chicken on top. It didn't taste fresh or well prepared at all. They also couldn't cook the steak correctly. I asked for medium, but it came out with very uneven cooking. Parts of it were undercooked while other parts were more done, which made it seem like the steak might have been frozen before being cooked. For the price, I expected much better quality and effort. Overall the food felt rushed and not worth it. read more

First time at Oak & Barrell and definitely not our last! Food was delicious and our server was awesome! She was so fun! Great personally and so knowledgeable!!! We are in the bar and it was very nice! read more

Off season, obviously, but cozy and friendly atmosphere on a gloomy rainy day. Randomly in the area and decided to stop. Our server was wonderful (wish I could remember her name!) I was. Disappointed they were out of alligator for the tacos, but my wagyu tacos were good. Hubs had fish and chips and was pleased with the portions and flavor. Cheesecake in to go boxes for later at home! read more

Food was great, service was good, just a little bit slow. Overall, would recommend & would definitely go again!

I'm genuinely very surprised at the amount of good reviews this place has! Went here last night for Valentine's Day, so granted, probably one of their busiest days of the year, and they had a reduced menu. We got seated in the "family" room for some reason, despite being a party of 2, which was very loud and informal for Valentine's Day? We ordered waters and drinks, and both of our waters had brown stuff in the bottom of the glasses, which is disgusting for an upscale restaurant! (See photo attached)!! Do better! We got rolls as an appetizer, they came with cinnamon butter which was good, but the inside of the rolls were not even warm enough to melt the butter..? Then we waited ~45 mins for the meal to come out. My date ordered the parmesan crusted chicken, which had good flavor but was very dry. I ordered the cavatappi alfredo and added lobster to it (+$9), and when it was brought to our table it had been sitting for so long that all of the noodles on top were completely dry and had no alfredo on them whatsoever. The alfredo sauce literally tasted like milk with a little bit of cheese and entirely sank to the bottom of the plate. Storebought jars of alfredo are better than whatever I got served, especially since half of the pasta had no alfredo at all! I could genuinely have bought better alfredo pasta in the frozen aisle at Walmart. I haven't even mentioned the lobster. I'm not sure what I was doing ordering seafood from a restaurant in Indiana, but I figured their lobster and seafood must be alright since it was in 3 different dishes on the Valentines menu. But this was probably the worst seafood I have ever had. The lobster was so chewy and cold, and had no flavor at all. This was a disgrace. I can't believe we would have this kind of service on Valentine's Day at a restaurant that had seemingly great reviews! As a side note, we did get the chocolate lava cake, which was decent. That's the only thing I would ever consider getting here again. read more

Awesome food!! French onion soup is the best! We always have a great time going to this restaurant when we are in town.

Every visit to this place has been 5 stars for me. Every single food item I have ordered has been delicious, fresh, and original. The service is always top notch. Servers are knowledgeable of the menu and specials. We had a great experience with our server Jamie. Great environment to have conversation with your date or family, and listen to soft music in the background. Absolute MUST try! You'll keep coming back. read more

Fun spot in a remote location, service was fast and friendly, server knew the menu well. Tried the buttermilk southern fried style alligator tacos - great foodie find in a small town. Place was filling up fast for lunch on a Tuesday - always a good sign. I'll definitely come back to try more items on the menu; love these local finds with their unique character and menus. read more

I absolutely loved my experience at Oak and Barrel in Monticello! The food presentation was so good, I forgot to take pictures. I got the Parmesan Crusted Chicken and the crème sauce on the chicken made the meal. We have several food restrictions in our family and the chef came out himself to help us know what to order and was happy to make accommodations as needed! We had a great time and will definitely be back! read more

absolutely delicious and despite looking like small portions they are very filling and reasonably priced! Server was quick, attentive, and very friendly even when I couldn't decide what to get We did come in a little after lunch rush, but it was peaceful and very quiet! Music was soft and lovely and felt very cozy! Definitely recommend for anyone who is spending their vacation at Indiana Beach or just wanting some good food for a great price! One appetizer, and two really good entrees was only $45, even with one of them being alligator! Wagyu dishes were also priced super reasonably! Highly recommen! read more

Super duper impressed with Oak and Barrel. This is a great restaurant for large groups or families with picky eaters because there is something for everyone on this menu! They have really unique options but also more simple options as well. We started off with the rolls which come with cinnamon butter. Incredible. I got the Wagyu Burger and my friend go the salmon and we split them! The burger was so good! Salmon was also delicious. The only negative was the asparagus that came with it was not cooked at all. Maybe some people like it that way but I like my soft and/or crispy. We then had the Cookie Monster cheesecake for dessert and it was surprisingly delicious! read more

Let's start with ambiance. Oak and barrel is very inviting with a rustic/modern feel. Service, is impeccable. The whole staff is very invested in what they do here. I have yet to have a bead experience. The staff is well informed about specials as well as suggestions. Now for the food... I have yet to have a bead exercise here. I have tried just about everything on the menu. I am particularly impressed with the seafood selections. Steak, rice, veggies and seafood are cooked perfectly. I'm from Chicago and I'd put them against top rated restaurants throughout the city! This is a Monticello gem! read more

The restaurant itself was very nice and our server was one of the best we've ever had, however, the "prime rib" we ordered was definitely not prime rib. We've enjoyed prime rib in the past and have even smoked our own, but this was no more than a sirloin steak. The medium I ordered was almost raw when it came to the table. The total cost of the meal was over $300 for 3 of us and in our opinion was way over-priced, especially when we were expecting prime rib. Try better next time. read more

Loved the lunch options! Dessert here is a must! Service superb, got to sit near the fireplace, so cozy & warm!

The food was outstanding the waiter attentive and prices reasonable. Our waiter Tony was outstanding great with advice and very attentive. The meatloaf was the best I ever had and the portions were large, good thing because my husband kept sneaking bites. He had the bourbon chicken which was equally as delicious. We will be back and next time save room for dessert. read more

Can hardly believe a place like this is in Monticello. It's a bit of confused identity. Decor is Texas Roadhouse lite with wood paneling everywhere and the country music blaring. Chef driven menu has some interesting twists on classic dishes. We had a fabulous and knowledgeable server. Which can make such a difference. Our starters -- French Onion Soup and Lobster Bisque Soup were divine. Entrees were good, too. Pork chop with whiskey sauce, potatoes and BBQ corn (our fave side) and steak with caramelized onions and mushrooms, garlic mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts. We also enjoyed our cocktails and wine. We'll be back! read more

Oak and Barrel is one of those restaurants that would fit in absolutely anywhere. It's hard to pick a single way in which it stands out. The premises are great, with tastefully themed decor, ample seating and both dining and bar seating. The live music in the bar was a nice touch. The menu is outstanding, with a good (but not excessive) number of unique offerings, including such things as bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, tiger prawn and lobster scampi and blackened grouper. The ingredients are locally sourced where appropriate. On the drink front, we didn't sample the bourbons and wines, but the draft beer list was top notch. The wait staff was completely up to speed with everything on the menu and drinks list. Definitely a keeper. read more

LOVE this place. I've decided to work my way through their whole menu with a liberal dose of the weekly specials while I'm traveling here on business. The side dishes are fantastic, each time the service has been incredibly informative and very attentive. Tuesdays is prime rib night and it's smoked and served with a yummy horseradish cream. Can't wait to come back!! read more

I'm not from the area so I kind of felt like I was taking a chance, but this place turned out to make me jealous of those who live nearby. Great service and ambiance! The menu is surprisingly fancy for a town the size of Monticello. I was very torn between eating a couple of appetizers or an entree due to the amazing-sounding options. I opted for a (perfectly cooked) steak. I very much want to return and have about half of the appetizers. read more

Amazing food and service ( by Jessica). The tenderloin "sandwich " I ordered covered the large plate. I've never seen anything like it.
