Always good food and great service. We do carry out a lot and it's always ready and prepared exactly how we ordered.

Fried chicken livers were excellent but the ham and bean soup was fantastic - smokey, ham chunks were plentiful and beans that weren't mushy!

My son wanted lunch instead and got the kids hamburger which was adult sized. The pancakes were great as well as the skillet. Will definitely return when we are in town looking for breakfast.

They still have the goofy hours closing at three. It felt dark & dingy. Pieces of trash on floor runners as walked to our seats. Pieces of napkin? The cloth seats of the booths are stained. Although it's always been overpriced, it's gone up even more, and it's just not pleasant now. Three women at the front hostess desk didn't acknowledge my party right away, and when one did, she seemed annoyed we were there. Our server wasn't any more welcoming nor friendly. Worse, actually. I received a large mug of decaf. No non-dairy options and given bowl of individual cups of half-and-half. While it proved to actually be devoid of caffeine, the coffee didn't taste good at all. Not sure what brand they must be using. No refills offered for our table, but I couldn't even finish this cup. $3.00 for this crap. Soft drinks are nearly $4, juice almost $3 and $4 depending on the size... Everything here is extremely overpriced. The portion of hash browns I was given was huge, but they were not good either. I normally have trouble with undercooked hash browns with no color when I go out. These were overcooked and too crunchy to get on a fork. Greasy. Rye toast okay. I'm sure real dairy butter. I didn't bother to ask... I'm glad they offer mushrooms. However, I could tell they came from a can. I also like that tomato juice is an option, but I didn't get that this time. Rye bread is a welcomed sight. Given checks before we were finished. No drink refills offered. I was never brought the straw the server said she owed me. She only had one on hand. You must take your check up front to pay. As annoyed as they seemed to have us come in the doors, you'd think they would have checked us out sooner. My two sides ala carte with coffee came to over $11 before tip. Not pictured, a lady at my table paid even more for a fountain drink and their granola and yogurt parfait with fruit. It looked good, but good Lord. $12 and change?? Just really unenthusiastic attitudes. Food quality and atmosphere went WAYYY down. I feel like I need a shower and to put my clothes in the wash from feeling greasy and having that oily smell cling to my shirt which was fresh when I went in. I don't know how this place is still in business other than the fact that it's one of the only restaurant options in this awful little town, so you don't have much choice if you want to go somewhere to sit down... I don't plan to return. The staff won't ever have to be inconvenienced by me again. You had one job...

I counted five booths and five counter stools that stayed full during our visit. The staff (a couple) are salt-of-the-earth sweet and hustle to keep orders coming. They know the regulars by name and cajole about family. The menu offers breakfast or lunch, with tenderloins as the featured items. Prices are inexpensive. Food comes out quickly. The tenderloins are premade and frozen. They are thin and the breading is flavorful. I had the daily special, a Tenderloin Manhattan which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. This was pure comfort food. The potatoes and tenderloin were good, but the gravy was over salty for me. My husband had the tenderloin sandwich with fries. The tenderloin was ok and the fries were really hot and good. An article on the wall indicated that Artie, the original owner, passed away in an auto accident in 1954. A local business award plaque hung above our table. I'm not sure that the shop is A.D.A. compliant as there are steps at the front door and the aisle is very narrow. There may be a ramp at a rear entrance, I couldn't tell. We found free street parking on an adjacent street. I give the place high marks on character and I love the service. The food is ok.

In the world of tenderloins, these are stars. I ordered a lunch special my husband wisely ordered the tenderloin. Mine was...well look at the pictures. It was very tasty with the tenderloin you can taste that it's pork not a fried cracker. I will certainly get one next time. It's honestly the way to go.. I have a very sensitive nose and I can smell old oil at 100 feet there was no smell of oil at all. My husband had fries and they were not at all oily. Your waiter and waitress are the owners and the cook and whatever needs to be done I guess very pleasant prompt service. I'm going to post a bunch of pictures. The mashed potatoes in the picture are actual mashed potatoes not fake The green beans are probably canned possibly frozen. They were fine. My husband is the gravy connoisseur and he said the gravy was excellent. Everything you see in the pictures that I post everything including a 20% tip came to $22 and less than $.50 unbelievable .

Triple XXX root beer was king of the hill back when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's. Damn…read morefine root beer, too! So imagine my (pleasant) surprise that there was but one Triple XXX restaurant that remained open, carrying the torch (as it were) for that great root beer! So on a nice and humid Saturday, me, hubby, and our little Puppy hopped in the car for a 2+ hr drive to West Lafayette IN for lunch! Of course - we got there - an old-style-diner-like building perched on a hill close to Perdue University in West Lafayette! We were seated in the outdoor "full service" tented section of the restaurant (covered) and perused the menu. After ordering the obligatory Triple XXX root beer (but of course - which came with free refills) we turned to the menu! Hubby ordered the Barney Burger - a 1/4 lb chop steak burger with cheese and grilled onions - as fyi, no burger comes with condiments- you get to "dress your own the way you like it" with condi's on the table. I ordered the Bernie Flowers All-Pro - a 1/4 lb chop steak with lettuce, tomato, onion (which I held) and Miracle Whip (yes!) on a toasty sesame bun. We both got curly fries (which were yummy, btw). Ok- first thoughts- the burgers - while fresh- were a bit dry. Hmm. The lettuce on my Bernie was a nice, crisp, and cold leaf. Yes! The tomato was freshly sliced and - honestly- looked like one I'd cut at home. Sweet! So why the 4 stars - I mentioned the meat was dry? Oh my. Yes, that's the sole demerit. But props to the fries and the awesome Root Beer! We enjoyed it - and just in the nick of time. No sooner did we finish up than a severe thunderstorm rolled into town! So we skedaddled to the car, hopped in, and drove thru drenching rain, super strong winds, some light hail - until we got outta Indiana on our way back to Illinois. Would we come again? Of course! Gotta support places like this-they're an important part of Americana! Check it out yourself and enjoy- as we did!

This time I got a burger and root beer. This isn't fancy food, this is country cooking at it's finest. The root beer is amazing. I should have asked about a root beer float, next time. You walk it and sit where ever you can. It it a long counter that wraps around and the wait staff walk inside it. The fries are yummy, and the burger was perfect for what I needed a solid meal since I hadn't eaten in almost 9 hours. Yep sounds like a personal problem. But hey at least the food here has been perfect both times. Maybe next time I will buy a shirt or at least some root beers to go with me. My burger was a true knife and fork meal. At least I am too old to be wearing my chili all over my beard and shirt. Highly recommend if in the area and it is only 5 miles off the interstate. Drive in and enjoy a yummy meal.
