Very slow service for a Thursday night around 5pm with only three tables with customers seated (counting us) and a couple seated at the bar. No knife to cut bread, also no small plates to put bread or appetizers on. Napkins small and cheap, (nothing against paper napkins but buy dinner size). Was not offered drink refills (didn't order bar drinks). Husband's New York Strip was pink like he ordered but tough and hard to cut. Anglers has definitely improved in the last few years. We were pleased with the service, and the menu offers a good variety. The bulk of the (non-steak) entrees were deep fried, which is good for tasty and not so good for healthy. I was pleased to see smelt on the menu, and wasn't disappointed. We also were able to order a cooking style (broiled with Cajun spices) instead of the style on the menu (breaded and deep fried) which was gratifying. The pollock would have benefited from less cooking time. The fries were abundant, but not at all crispy. The beer selection was fairly uninspiring. As I walked in, I wasn't to impressed with the interior. The host (who also happened to be the owner) greeted us dressed as if he just came in from chopping wood. I was dining with two other patrons and we all ordered something different...and we were all impressed! Between the Pulled-Pork BBQ Sandwich, a Fried Pork Sandwich and the House Specialty Hamburger...everything was fantastic. This was me and my husband's first time eating here and it was spectacular, we had the avegolemono soup it was delicious and saganaki wich was delicious as well. And our steaks were perfect . It's nice to see that the owners have updated the interior of the restaurant, but the food and staff have not improved at all. For some reason, the hostess insisted on seating us next to the bathrooms, and when we declined, she tried to seat us next to kitchen walkway. Those are the two worst seats in any restaurant, and unless the restaurant is completely packed to the rafters, don't seat people there. The main dining area had plenty of tables and booths available so we steered her where we wanted to be seated. The hamburger was OK, but the fries were not, according to my SO. I can't even remember what I ordered which means it wasn't memorable, good or bad. Monticello has no shortage of diners, so I'd rather eat at a restaurant where the staff is friendly and the food is good, as oppose to one that just has an updated interior and little else going for it. read more

Ate at Anglers today to celebrate Easter with family. We had a party of 10, with a 3 people who drove an hour for the get-together and one that drove over 2 hrs. The food for half of the group had a poor taste. And then unfortunately we were asked to leave so the next reservation could be seated. I have NEVER been asked to leave my seat to make room for the next guest. VERY DISAPPOINTING when we had so many drive so far for this. WE WILL NOT RETURN. read more

Everything we had tonight at Anglers was delicious. I had the salad bar, all fresh. The Greek chicken breast was tender and seasoned perfectly. The All you can eat Ocean perch was awesome and last but not least the service was excellent. read more

We arrived for our 2pm reservation and were told that they were "choked". Seemed a strange thing to say to a party that you knew were coming. We stood for 10 minutes while they scrambled to find space for us. They then sat us in a back room with not enough tables or chairs to seat us all. We stood around and waited... And waited. I asked about high chairs for my infant twins. I was told they only had two - TWO - so we would have to wait until they came available (both were in use.) Eventually we moved the tables ourselves and gathered chairs so we had enough for everyone. The waitress was frazzled and told us that the owner had been seating walk ins at reserved tables, leaving their parties with reservations stranded. Nice. I went to change a baby and there was no changing table (plastic pull-down or otherwise) in this "family" restaurant ON MOTHER'S DAY. When I told the owner's wife that I thought that was a requirement in this day and age, I was called mean and difficult. I ended up taking the poor boy out to the car to change him. Still no apology from the owner at this point. In fact, aside from complaining about his customers, we heard nothing out of the owner or his wife. My aunt, who made the reservation, went to talk to the owner and was told that she lied and didn't make a reservation. That was the last straw. We walked out. 19 people with an average ticket of $20 a plate? You do the math. You screwed up, Angler's. We are a large family with lots of friends in the area. You can bet that we will be telling them about your inefficient service and rude treatment. The other large party seated by us told us they had been waiting an hour and a half for their food. OMG!! Went to their re-opening on Mother's Day and it was a complete cluster F--k. We were 19 and had reservations. When we got there we found out they couldn't accommodate us. Other large parties had been there an hour and still didn't have food. Then the owner proceeded to tell our party we lied and never made reservations. The audacity! I watch these restaurant maker over shows on Food Network and A&E and I don't believe any of these shows stars would recommend opening up for a major event without sufficient time to train the staff and ensure the restaurant is capable of meeting the needs of large parties. All I can say is restauranteurs can make mistakes, but to then take your frustration out on your guests is just unacceptable. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It has a large, fresh salad bar with 3+ potato/macaroni salads to choose from, soups and rolls (they assume that you know they're included), and pudding/jello. I believe the salad bar is $8.50 but you can get a meal that includes the salad bar for a dollar more. The menu is pretty enormous and they have daily specials so be prepared to take some time looking it over. When you enter the building you can go to the left and sit in the bar or go to the right to sit in the dining room. They also have a pretty large banquet room that you can reserve. I have always had good service and my boyfriend says that they have the best french fries around. I prefer this restaurant over Riverside because the prices are better, portions are better, and Riverside is extremely loud. read more

Angler's is a sure bet for a good family meal. The owners know how to host.... They keep it clean and comfortable... and they offer generous portions for a decent price. If you're a soup and salad person, Angler's is worth a stop. They offer a small, but nice salad bar with a couple of soups each day. Seniors and families keep the place popular, but not too busy that you won't be quickly seated and served... and there's a separate bar room in case you want an adult crowd and a cold one. read more

We were on vacation with the family and chose the Anglers for dinner. The staff greeting us at the door were very friendly and likewise for the waitress. After several minutes I noticed a man sitting next to a partition in the back part of the restaurant constantly watching the staff. As our table was directly in his stare it was very uncomfortable!!! The waitresses seemed to be under great stress and the young lady running the front desk must have had other duties as when someone would enter or be waiting to pay their bill she literally ran back and forth to the front of the restaurant from the back section, which I assume was the kitchen. The food was good, salads on the bar were delicious but did not care for the watchful eyes on the staff!would love to return but felt sorry for the staff. read more

Thought about going to try this place sometime in the future but we decided to try it today. Now I wish I would've tried it sooner. I had their prime rib, so tender you can cut it with a butter knife. I wasn't crazy about the rub but not bad. The wife ordered chicken & shrimp and enjoyed it. Service was outstanding!! In the last couple of years, we've eaten at Angler's many times. Their soups are always good, especially the Greek lemon and the vegetable beef. The salad bar has reasonable variety and is always fresh and good. My favorite dinner is Greek Pork Chops (2 big ones!), which are succulent and luscious. I think it is better than the prime rib. Their fish is pretty good too. ...and although I've never had it, they have a flaming cheese dessert that looks and smells wonderful. Angler's isn't the Waldorf Astoria, but it is consistently good and reasonably priced. They have a Senior Menu too. The atmosphere is pleasant and rest rooms are clean. Waitstaff is courteous. The owner always stops by with a smile, asking how we're enjoying our meal. I hope they continue to do well and stay open for a long, long time. read more

I was not able to get another dish as it took 10 minutes to get a waitress to come over to let her know there was an issue. Several of us sat there waiting for drink refills only to be ignored.
