Wow does this place suck. This used to be a regular place for us. Not sure if the ownership changed or if they food service company changed to some crapass place like Sysco. Won't be going here again. Chicken was precooked and prebagged. Even the kids couldn't eat the cheese enchiladas. I like to consider myself a little bit of a Mexican food connoisseur as I have tried many restaurants in the Houston area. I have to say, this restaurant hands down delivered some of the tastiest and freshest Mexican food I have ever had! After complimenting the waiter on his excellent service and also the food, he told me they have had the same Chef for 15 years. I would hold on to him too if he was rocking my kitchen the way he's rocking theirs!! Definitely worth a stop! Price is moderate ($9-$15 average)..and portion sizes very generous. El Rincon use to be the neighborhood place for Tex Mex and a Margarita or 3. Everyone went there once a week or so. I'm not sure what caused the change, but our last two visits will likely be our LAST 2 visits. Food I guess was passable for being simple, not too flavorable Tex Mex. Margaritas were a complete and total rip off of some lightly green tinted, lightly flavored water - and if there was Tequila in it....we sure couldn't tell. Horrible. Flat out horrible. Arrived (party of 6) and we were seated semi quickly. Everything went down hill from there. Our waiter had a horrible attitude. He forgot to take one of our drink orders and when we asked he snarled. SNARLED. Then chips and salsa came out. A hair in the salsa. Disgusting. When we informed the hostess we were leaving we were still forced to pay for the drinks we didn't get to drink. Will never return. read more

Meh. I ordered shrimp tacos and a margarita. The tacos were made with uncleaned shrimp and were b.l.a.n.d., despite having seasoning on them. And I never got my margarita. Tried some of hubby's meal, it was bland too. I'll go back one more time to see if we maybe caught them at a bad time, but I'll have a tough time getting the husband to go back. read more

Been there about 30 times and used to eat there probably once per week to get my Tex-Mex fill for the week. There are quite a few regulars there. The food is good and inexpensive but could be better. They do get it out of the kitchen fairly quickly. My favorites are tostadas, cheese enchiladas, enchiladas suizas, and tortilla soup. The regular beef fajitas are nothing to write home about, but they do made a better version with cheese and bacon wrapped shrimp that is quite good. The tortilla soup comes with all sorts of sides so you can load it up as much as you wish. I go there when I need to get in/out fast since it is fairly near my house. read more

This was 'ok'. You do get plenty of food for your money, but the quality is average at best. This place is always packed when we drive by so I guess I was expecting something better. Still, the prices are good and the portions generous. The wait staff was pleasant and my server was good about keeping my water refilled. I used to love the food at this place. .but I ate lunch there Friday and had a lunch special of chicken enchiladas with mole sauce with rice and beans..the beans were burnt..ugh!!..and so was the mole sauce..the rice and the salsa for the chips were the only thing edible on the plate..will probably not go back..for a long time...with so many Mexican joints in any given vicinity of Houston. .your food has to be top notch to stay in business. .this place has decided that just being a Mexican food joint with mediocre food is good enough!! Went here for lunch today because it's close to the house I'm staying in for a friend. Wasn't too sure from the outside but I braved inside the tinted window establishment. Service was great, the waiters were attentive and helpful, but listen to me...I know flavor, and there was none here. Steak and chicken fajitas came out sizzling and hot, I was excited but the steak had an awful odor to it and the chicken was rubbery and only had a slight pineapple taste to it. It did not meet even my lowest expectations. If the flavor matched the service this place would be an absolute hit. I hope to return one day and see that they've stepped it up. This is Houston, Mexican joints have no excuse to not use at the very least some salt and pepper... Come on. read more

One of my families all time favorite Mexican restaurant. The fajitas are excellent and one of my faves. The staff is very friendly and they go out of there way to make you welcome. Their latest addition includes an outdoor patio for additional seating. It has a great sown home private business feel with great food and service. I recommend it to anyone! read more

I gotta say... This is Tex-Mex at its most simplistic form. Do NOT expect much flavor. They do have quite the variety of selections, but the food is rather BLAH. Mamma Juanita's a bit further east down Louetta is 1000x better. I had the "Burrito California" and my wife had the Poblano pepper. We give it a "meh". I will not return. This is a basic neighborhood Tex-Mex restaurant with great service and consistently good food. We've been coming here since they opened and have never had a bad meal. Friday and Saturday nights get busy...especially during high school football season...but we've never had to wait more than a few minutes. No frills, just good food at a reasonable price. read more

Has always been an easy solid choice for Tex-Mex in the area but it's been hit or miss the last couple of years and now we're done with the place. Ordered fajitas to go, got home no beans and of course no tortillas. Called them up and was told that "we can come back and get them if we wanted them" So they wanted us to make two trips. I asked if they could deliver and was told "oh no we don't do that". So we then asked if they could reverse the transaction since our dinner was basically ruined and their answer was we can offer you free queso. I'm a native Texan from close to the border so I'm very familiar with Tex-Mex food. It is a staple in my "diet." This restaurant is the best I've had in the entire Houston metro area. I order take-out most of the time and it is just as good as eating inside the restaurant, plus the portions are just as large. Prices are comparable if not better than other places in the area. If your looking for a mexican restaurant with flavorless food go to El Rincon! Im comparing this restaurant to other mom and pop mexican restaurants in the same price range. My server asked me what i wanted to drink so i asked him what kind of taquilas do they have so he replied back with we have Triple Sec and Gold. First off Triple Sec isn't even a taquila and he couldnt name any of the taquilas that the restaurant had, which shows me that the server didnt really care. The chips and salsa were flavorless which should of been a big clue to me but i figured since this restaurant has been here for several years there must be a reason. I waited several minutes until my waiter showed back up with my strawberry margarita then i ordered the beef fajitas. When i recieved my meal i immediately recognized that the flour tortillas came from a bag and were not made from scratch like most mexican restaurants. I finally assembled my fajita taco and tasted the beef fajita and wondered why this place was still in buisness. The meat tasted like marinated dog food. The only thing that was good was the Pico. When i went to the front to pay for my meal the host asked me how i liked it? and i said "it wasnt the best". This was honestly the worst mexican restaurants that i have ever been to from the service to the food i cannot find one redeeming quality about this restaurant. I would have gladly paid a few dollars extra for for food quality. Ive been in the restaurant industry for 7years now and i can tell when a restaurant is trying to save a few bucks on using poor quality ingredients. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. My family used to go here a lot because it's close to home, but due to reoccurring issues over the past year or so we rarely go anymore. The waiters are beyond rude, it smells like a bathroom, and the food is mediocre at best. Every time I go, the waiters act as though we are an inconvenience. We used to let it slide, but its just getting worse. If you ever need a refill or another margarita, then you're out of luck because they don't care. I will never go back. read more

The salsa tasted watered down, the queso was not that good either . We ate it anyway, but it lacked flavor like queso should . But when our food came out then everything started to pick up. If you get anything , get the Alamo dinner . It is good. The shrimp is some of the best bacon wrapped shrimp I've had from a restaurant . The service was good as well. If they get the queso and salsa down packed they will be a strong contender. read more
