I absolutely loved this restaurant! We had a large party of 10 and were seated right away on a Friday. The staff were super nice even though not all of us were Spanish speakers! I got the picaditas and they were so yummy! I also tried the torta cubana, and the sopes de asada. I highly recommend! We also got the salsa platter and they have every salsa you can imagine. On a busy Sunday morning, I was the only Anglo in the restaurant. At least three bowls of muendo were ordered by the regular customers. I wasn't so bold. My date grew up going to Mexican restaurants in East LA with her dad. She vouches for the Mexican coffee. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant in Omaha that had little Mexican biscuits, but I was informed that is the norm in LA. Very tasty! And you get a whole carafe for easy refills of hot coffee. Best Chile Relleno in town--made on premises: lots of cheese, delicious breading, amazing mild tomato sauce, each Chile was very mild and tender. I've had them elsewhere where they've been woody or undercooked. These are perfect. I ordered a large Pozole and it was beyond expectation--pork was very tender and there was a lot of pork. Broth was very mild--a side of very potent hot chile oil comes on the side to add as liked: accompaniments included tostadas, oregano, fresh cabbage and radish, juicy lime wedges, onion and cilantro, chicharones. Been here 2-3 times every week. I was from Cali BTW. I'm very picky about the food taste (I was spoiled from California food). I had tried out a lot Mexican restaurants around the area. I would recommend this place. If any restaurants I don't like, I would not come back there again. Hands down. Food here is pretty decent. First I like how they set you up with sauces and chips when you sit. The taste is 8/10 compared to California Mexican food. Service is 10/10 Atmosphere is 9/10 I'd say it's hard to find a good Mexican food in Nebraska but this one is standout from 10 restaurants I've tried in Nebraska. Give it a try. read more

I found El Rancho after getting a Uber Eats coupon code and wanting to try a new restaurant out. I ordered 1 burrito, 5 tacos and 6 flautas w/ beans and rice. The tacos were excellent, the tortilla they used didn't seem handmade but still very good quality. The meats were all very good, I got Steak, Pork and Chicken. The steak was not fatty/chewie like other taquerias I have been to. The pork was very meaty and not to fatty, not pastor but still very good. The chicken was my favorite, well seasoned and cut into little cubes, perfect for a street taco. The burrito was alright, I would probably go with the tacos again if I were to reorder but can't complain with a very basic, but good burrito. Flautas are usually my go to appetizers when ordering from a taqueria. These flautas were delicious but there could have been more meat in the fillings, regardless I would order the 6 flautas w/ beans and rice again. What made me really excited about El Rancho and coming back in the future was the delicious salsa they have, I tried there Orange (habanero?), Rojo and then a blackish garden salsa. Each salsa was amazing in there own right, the Habanero salsa was spiced well, maybe a little underwhelming in terms of heat but the flavor was on point. The Rojo salsa was delicious with chips or for someone that wanted a mild/medium salsa. There garden salsa (I dont know what to call this one) was delicious with radish and garlic and onion. Overall I will be back, as I said in the beginning I ordered through a delivery app so I am curious to see what the ambiance is and how the customer service stacks up. Stopped by El Rancho in South Omaha for a weekday lunch. When you walk in, I'm not sure if you are supposed to stand at the entrance or walk to the bar to be seated. One of the best things at El Rancho is that when you are seated, you gets free chips and a selection of five (5) different salsas to choose from along with some grilled/roasted veggies (jalapenos) to start things off. Menu is fairly diverse with multiple items to choose from. I went with a cheese enchilada and several street tacos. Tried beef and chorizo. Food came out pretty quickly. Enchilada was lukewarm and not very flavorful. Chorizo taco was dull with very little taste and the beef taco had very little meat on it and had been overcooked. Definitely not the best Mexican food I have had in Omaha. Maybe it was an off day, but there are a number of other better restaurants that I would prefer to eat at in the future read more

Now a well worn favorite over the years, we continue to return to El Rancho to dine in or take out. The location along the US-480 corridor is perfect for me to pop off to pick up dinner and head home. We have enjoyed more and more of the menu as we have become adventurous past just ordering our favorites over and over. The tacos here are really excellent. They don't have cheek or tongue meat like El Ray (our other favorite) but the head meat is pretty comparable. I also love their salsa tray when you dine in. The menudo here is clean and doesn't have that nasty-unblanched taste. Give it a try and be adventurous! Previous 4 star review: Easy to find and park at this homey family owned joint. As with much of the Mexican food in Omaha on 24th st..don't judge a book by its cover! The outside of the building is a little dated, but the food inside is quite good. The restaurant is very spacious and there are a lot of tables to seat patrons. Also, the menu is quite extensive-there are a lot of choices including your favorites: burritos, torta, enchiladas, tacos, sopes etc. Prices are pretty competitive with the surrounding area, and they do have a complimentary salsa and chips tray which is a plus. I ordered the chicken enchilada plate with verde, and also had a bite of the Carnitas burrito. I thought that the food here was really tasty and pretty much on point with some of my other favorite Mexican taquerias in town. One funny thing is that there's a three beer maximum for every person. Since my initial review in 2015, not much has changed at El Rancho other than a refresh of the interior - brighter with more seating to accommodate the large weekend crowds. While I've always been the #1 fan of the salsa extravaganza, my new go-to dish is only available on weekends - pozole. While menudo is also on the weekend-only list of items, their pozole is outta-this-world satisfying. Imagine...kernels of cooked-just-right hominy intermingled with chunks of pork, steeped in a rich, savory broth. Load it up with chopped onion, cilantro, radishes and fresh cabbage (to taste) and, it's a perfect afternoon treat that should be followed by a short nap. The soup comes in two sizes, both under $10. Recently I did stray from my regular pozole fix to order what I refer to as "the tower of seafood" - something I've witnessed other customers ordering, but haven't had the chance to add to my list of food-related experiences. As you can imagine, convincing someone to share in "the tower of seafood" experience can be challenging when we're all presumably watching our diet (which noming on chips and salsa, of course). The Seafood Parrillada ($36.99 for two) did not disappoint. A generous portion of well-seasoned shrimp, scallops, octopus, crab legs, breaded fish and potatoes accompanied by a plate of rice, beans and tortillas was ALOT for two people. Thankfully, we had a couple of men-folk in tow who were more than willing to eat past their full-o-meter and conquer "the tower." They also offer a Sky, Sea and Earth version that quite intriguing. I knew this place was going to be legit because when you sit down they give you the full salsa spread and complimentary chips. The jewel of the assortment was the mild teal salsa. Very simple but downright freshhhh. It tasted better than a perfectly salted heirloom tomato that I grew from a damn seed. I ordered the bistec de la mexicana. By this time I was almost full from gorging the chips and salsa but you manage to get it down when the food is good. Rice and beans were rice and beans. Tortillas were decent. I hit up "The Ranch" with some fellow Yelpers to try the tacos. I ordered one tongue, one al pastor and one chorizo. All were served street food style -- double corn tortillas topped with cilantro and onion. All were quite tasty, but I would have to say the tongue was my favorite. El Rancho also starts off your meal with an impressive salsa try, complete with chips and pickled veggies. While I came for the tacos, El Rancho specializes in menudo. I'd never tried menudo, so I had to imbibe. Definitely not a dish for the unadventurous. The small bowl was loaded with large chunks of beef tripe, which naturally had a grizzly texture and intestines-y flavor. I had to load mine up with tons of cilantro and onion to balance it out a bit. It was tasty, but probably something I wouldn't order again. Nice laid back atmosphere. Good location. Good food. I have been here several times and will keep going back. The amount of salsa and chips you get prior to your meal, even breakfast are amazing. They range from spicy to mild and everywhere in between. The last visit was for breakfast and it was great. The coffee is Folgers but they steep it with cinnamon sticks and I couldn't get enough. Full plates of eggs with warm tortillas. It is as good as everyone says, you should go there. Don't let the sketchy area and the run down strip mall scare you. Here's a tip, that's where the best food is. I think Jason and I were the only white people in there but that's okay! They welcomed us and sat us and brought out the most amazing salsa sampler and chips. I ordered the flautas and enchiladas. I believe the flautas are hand rolled in the back. I also ordered two tacos, a pastor and an asada. Yes and yes! I was having a magical moment with my tacos. I could have eaten my weight in them. This place just keeps getting better. Great staff, excellent food and a fantastic salsa assortment! This was the first stop on the Yelp Tour de Taco 2013. Everyone stuck with tacos since this was the beginning. I thought the tacos were fair but the variety of salsa, the roasted jalapeños & veggies and the basket of grilled onions that accompanied them made them a strong 3 stars. Dennis is pretty much spot on with the super cheap taco action and salsa bar analysis. I couldn't identify what many of the sauces were, but who cares? (If you're the kind of person that does... well, you're probably not here anyway.) Walking into the restaurant felt a little shady, but once we were inside it was a nice family type of place on a Sunday afternoon. Ordering was easy (just make sure you don't accidentally get the all-spanish menu like Bill did) and food was goooood. I had some chicken enchiladas w rice/beans and an al pastor taco to wash down the frenzy of chip and salsa action. The fact that they take plastic (minimum order $5) is nice too, since I'm usually short on cash and not too good at planning. These were tasty tacos! I had beef. I was expecting ground beef, lord knows why. Instead what came out was basically steak. Well seasoned, tender with just a hint of crisp which was perfect for me because I like my steak well done (Yes, I'm from Nebraska and I know better... don't judge me lol!) It's authentic as far as I can tell. My server didn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish so ordering was a hodge podge of pointing- including at Yelp pictures! Be patient. Visiting Omaha and got take out from here. Prices were very reasonable and you get tons of food and the take out was super fast. Everything we got (chiles rellenos, enchilada plate, milanesa) tasted amazing with tons of flavor. Salsa and chips were also super good. Wish we had Mexican food as good as this back home.
