Fast, friendly, and MF good. Was equally thrilled and baffled to get such a massive, delicious burrito for $7.50 here. It had a perfect distribution of meat, rice, beans, and cheese. Both sauces that were provided were delicious and flavorful with varying levels of heat. The specialty sour cream was a perfect addition. The carnitas made me totally rethink carnitas.... probably the best I've ever had; so juicy. Absolutely delicious, and the price makes El Ranchito a must-stop. 70th Birthday brunch arrangements made over a month and a half ago were not upheld. Very 'last minute follow-through' showed due to personnel lacking organization regarding what should have been easily managed due to early notification. Do not trust these folks to manage your party. The little ranch! This little ranch packs big flavor in big sandwiches. This Mexican sandwich shop has a variety of ingredients, all posted up on a chalkboard, served up on a flaky french roll, a Bolillo. It was piled high with ingredients, tomatoes, a spicy red salsa served in a plastic squeeze bottle. The restaurant is small, plays Tejano, and takes orders in English and Spanish. The service was fast- they have the meats ready to go, and the sandwiches were about the size of my head. Huge. The service was friendly, fast, and efficient. My drink stayed full, and I was able to get in and outta there pretty quickly. Parking was easy- it's a strip center with a few other food options located within. This looked like the cheapest option in the center! I really enjoyed this restaurant. I wish I had gotten another sandwich to go. read more

Another in a series of taquerias that are popping up in East Dallas in the Old Lake Highlands area. This one has been around for several years but we tried it today for the first time. It does not, as customary, score high on ambience, but that is not why one goes to a taqueria. The menu is a bit shorter than Mi Pueblito. El Ranchito has seven types of tacos. The menu is in Spanish so we had to ask for some help. The sandwich menu was more extensive (ricas tortas). We went for tacos and got the combo plate: 3 fresh made soft tacos in corn tortillas, rice and beans for $5.99. The tacos were excellent. The wife got one chicken, one beef fajita, and one pork. I got two chicken and one beef fajita. The wait was rather lengthy--20-25 minutes--but well worth it. The meat was soft and with a squeeze of fresh lime, cilantro, and onions they were delicious. The meal also came with homemade, quite spicy salsa. The rice was special, very flavorful, and with a little salsa it too was delicious. We were full and very satisfied, and the conversation marveled at how lucky we are in East Dallas to have all these very tasty, very cheap taquerias. On the way home we passed two more that we vowed to try, so stay tuned. The place is not that easy to find--look for the Walgreens at Garland and Peavy, it is behind that. And it is very non-descript on the outside and inside. But the food is excellent and a real value. read more

FIrst, don't let the appearance fool you. This is a traditional, run down, hole in the wall, corner store of a shopping center. With that said, these are the best type of places. We ordered to-go 10 Barbocoa and 6 Steak Tacos, a side of rice, and extra salsa - with homeade chips, all for about $23.00; very average priced, and the tacos were stuffed to the max! Very tasty, and probably one of the best I have tried. The red sauce was average, the verde was great - extra spicy. The wait was pretty long, we waited at least 30 minutes, which was more than I expected, but while there, about 3 people came in for call ahead to-go orders, and it was lunch time on a Saturday, so that played a big part. We will probably call ahead next time, to help prevent that wait. I highly recommend! read more

One of my favorite tacos spots in the Lake Highlands area! The food always comes out perfect and the Tortas are Huge! The staff are alway very friendly and very accommodating to the last of Spanish I know. Which brings me to my next point, it is easier to order in Spanish but if you know enough to get by then you'll be fine. Pros: Great food, music, staff and cleanliness. The Tortas!(omg!) Cons: Language barrier of some people who lack Spanish speaking skills. But even then it's not that bad. Was in the neighborhood, and saw this place from afar. I figured I haven't actually checked out a restaurant with the name torta in it before, so I'd stop in and check it out. Seems to be a family run place? I didn't ask, the cute checker chick was actually the person who cooked my meal too. The prices are pretty fair, and they give you a large amt of food. I think I ended up paying like 6.58 for a huevos and chorizo and abottle of water.. the heuvos plate came with eggs/chorizo, refried beans, french frieds (nice soft and crispy), a bowl of salsa, and like 4-5 very soft flour tortillas (very nice soft consistency, with a great chew sensation.. i'm describing this badly. ) At the counter they also sell a buncha random candy that i've never seen before so thats always a plus. I walked away with some weird sugar wafer thing that was actually pretty good, and then.. some sugarfied pumpkin (not a fan). All in all, it was a good experience, and the people there were very nice, and i'd go back again if I were in the area. read more

Across the street from the new Good 2 Go Taco location and next door to a very "classy" looking tattoo place, you may or may not notice the giant "TORTAS" sign on the side of the building, which as it turns out is advertising a small taqueria in the corner space. El Ranchito has been open for a couple of years, though you might miss it if you don't look closely enough. Ranchito is a small, simple taqueria, with eight or so tables and a couple of chairs at the front to wait for your to-go order, and a display case full of Spanish DVDs and random Mexican candies (Question of the century: Will they kill you or won't they?). In other words, just your average Dallas taqueria. First the pros of the place: It smells AWESOME when you walk in the door, and always has. I've been there a quite a few times over the past couple of years, and I still can't get over how great it smells in there, even while they're not cooking. The customer service has always been great, and they have a fairly varied torta and taco menu. They take credit cards, so I don't have to worry about stopping anywhere for cash first, and they have a cooler regularly stocked with almost every flavor of Jarritos (I don't care that it's worse for me than eating a whole bag of sugar). Unfortunately, all of those wonderful things can not make up for the decline in food quality that Ranchito has been experiencing lately. Last time I went, the fajita meat in my tacos was charred almost to a crisp and the barbacoa was pure fat, but I thought it had perhaps just been a fluke. This time, after ordering pastor and barbacoa tacos, I took my tacos home, plated them and found that, indeed, one of my favorite taco places has gone bad. The barbacoa was again ridiculously fatty, actually worse than last time, and literally tasted like I was just eating lard. The pastor was better in flavor, but was so greasy that the napkins they provided just weren't enough. I felt like I needed to hose down in the yard just to get all the grease off -- the only thing that stopped me was daylight. And my nosey neighbors. Because it would have been awkward. It seems that Ranchito is off their game lately, and with the latest addition of G2GT across the street, I really hope they get back on it, because I miss my little taqueria down the street. read more

This place is amazing. The venue may be dingy, but that doesn't matter. You're here for the food which is authentic and cheap. If you can't appreciate hole in the wall eats that are like stepping into another country, you won't like this place. It's not some fancy joint where you get wine and dined. It's a run down building that houses a delicious Mexican food. As you sit and eat you may notice kids playing about, it adds to the atmosphere, likely a safe haven for the neighborhood children. This only adds to its charm. Everything is made fresh. Even the tortillas and chips are made there. This hole-in-the-wall taco shop has pretty good tacos. I wouldn't say the best tacos I've ever had, but definitely satifies any taco craving! The tortillas were unique because they were slightly thicker than a traditional tortilla, almost pita-like. I expected myself not to enjoy it, but it was surprisingly nice. The meat was very flavorful, but a little dry in comparison to other tacos I've had. Overall, would say don't go out of your way to go here, but if you're in the area, check it out if you're craving some street style tacos. read more

A hole-in-the-wall completely Mexican place. From the green walls to the entirely Mexican customer base. The staff is great. Very polite; always smiling. While the two tacos I had were delicious, I wouldn't say they were out of this world or even anything special. Both the green sauce and the red sauce were great. I love spicy foods! The chilaquiles on the other hand, were kinda gross. I know one reason was the way the eggs were prepare - overcooked then finely chopped, leaving a weird texture. The tortillas did have a sauce on them, but it was overshadowed by the massive amount of queso fresco on top. To finish it all off, it was served with refried beans and... french fries? Just a weird experience overall. I was really looking forward to some good chilaquiles too! Next time, I'll stick with tacos. read more
