    Food to go.
    Tanya R.

Today was my first time having any food of any sort inside of Dekalb Market Hall. Yes, I'm tardy to the party. I only had about an hour to spare before work and decided on El Punto Cubana. There were two very busy gentlemen behind the counter doing everything-cooking, cleaning serving. I was directed to the computerized menu at the counter. I ordered a chicken empanada which was light and crispy, larger than most empanadas and really tasty. I should've ordered a different type of empanada since I decided on a grilled chicken meal as my main dish. The chicken was fresh, tender and lightly seasoned. The peppers and onions were cut and sautéed perfectly. I wish that the green olives had been sliced instead of cooked whole but they were still delicious. The plantains were perfectly cooked and just sweet enough. The server plated it for me really nicely too. On the downside, main dishes at El Punto Cubana a. The sauce cups are tiny and half filled. I kinda, sorta felt like the gentleman behind the counter were a bit TOO "busy" and gave off somewhat of a bothered vibe. I had plenty of leftovers to go. That's always a plus. Good stuff!

The crust of the empanada was really good, but it wasn't what I expected. It was basically fried plantain that was put inside of the empanada and fried. I also ordered a spicy chicken empanada and regretted it. It was made with spices from the hottest part of hell. It was inedible unfortunately. I didn't try the other food but other customers seemed to be enjoying it. I would give this place another try but stay away from anything spicy on the menu unless you're a true aficionado of fire in your mouth.

The service was great. The food was delicious: ropa vieja and toston maracucho. Diet pepsi and Brisk for drinks.

I went to this stall at Dekalb Market with my Cuban friend who moved here from Miami. She described the food here as "close to what I can get at home". Her go to I tried were croquetas de pollo (chicken croquettes). I've tried these in Miami and we both agreed the ones here are different but in a way, better than others. For one, the breading isn't as thick and is more panko like. While still fried fresh and hot, they leave you feeling a little more full in a satisfying and not bloated way. We also agreed these have way more chicken in them than the ones we have in Miami which often are 50/50 a blended chicken and potato mixture. Everything is made to order so we did have to wait a few minutes but so worth it for the hot, almost fall apart deliciousness. Staff speaks Spanish and is helpful. Their mango drinks are wonderful too.

Located inside underground the mall. Great food. Service is slow but it's worth the wait. Bc you know the food is fresh. I'll def come back. Can bring drinks from other places

From someone who is from Miami, I believe this is as Cuban as it's going to get in the area. I really like their food I've been multiple times . But just don't come in with high expectations and hope looking for pastelitos and a cortadito. The staff is also very nice and patient every time I visited :)

El Punto Cubano is gentrified Cuban food.... but that doesn't mean the food is not tasty! Visiting the DeKalb Market Hall for the first time today, I was so excited to come across Cuban food. I ordered the Mushroom Ropa Vieja with a side of order of plátano. The mushroom ropa vieja had more sliced veggies than actual mushroom. However, the flavor and olives were DELICIOUS. I really enjoyed the portions, flavor, and price for a vegan meal! I think my only complaint is that it's not AUTHENTIC Cuban food. I want Spanish menus, Cuban coffee on the menu, minimally priced giant platters of delicious food, and the coziness of the Cuban restaurants I grew up eating in Miami. I don't think the food is bad at all, but it's just not legit. It's missing the flavor of the actual Cuban restaurants I'm used to. The service was pretty quick and friendly! The seating is a bit tight as it's located in the food hall. However, I liked the Cuban posters and countertop seating! Overall, El Punto Cubano delivers good food! If you want authentic Cuban cuisine, you might have to go to Washington Heights or take a trip down to Miami to La Casita (the best Cuban food you'll have). But, El Punto Cubano is still tasty and I love how the menu is inclusive to vegan or gluten-free diets :)

Veggie empanada was disappointing. It was made from frozen veggies and lacked spices, sauce, and flavor. Wasn't even sauteed. Beef empanada was great. The ropa vieja was pretty good, a little too salty. Generous portions!

    Pork Cuban Mofongo

Stumbled across this gem !!! Had the best Cuban food I've had in a while. Eating this food felt like my pops was cooking for me at home, there's a tremendous amount of love that hugs each and every one of these recipes. I went from wanting to order a small snack to ordering potentially half of their menu. If you're in Brooklyn Dekalb market give this a place a try you won't regret it.

MY GOODNESS. Wow, when I tell you this Mofongo was the best meal I've had in months, I mean that with everything in my being. I'm a Cuban food aficionado and the flavor and authenticity was leaving me speechless. I had the group I was with try it too and they were all on the same page as me. So rich and amazingly on point making me feel like I was in Cuba. great hospitality too, everyone was smiling and they had live steel drums so the atmosphere was wonderful too. Normally don't post reviews like this, but that was the impact this place left on me. Gracias!

The flavors are a little off for me, but still a good version. The ropa vieja also lacked a little something, but they use tri-tip instead of the usual flank steak, which felt more tender. The owner Benny was also kind enough to give us some free desserts to take home, which were pretty good. With that said, what intrigued me the most was the interesting story about how Benny fell into this restaurant situation after swearing he would never be in this industry again. He is a strong believer in supporting the community, and has a nonprofit called Hungry Monk Rescue Truck that deals with food insecurity in NYC. We need more people like him in this world. Let's show our support for a business we can be proud to dine at.

Happy to see the restaurant offering specials so I ordered Cuban sandwiches, Bacalao(fried cod fish), Cuban ham croquettes, Yuca fries(came with red onions) and regular French fries. The Cubans' roast pork was well-seasoned and accompanied with plantain chips, all items brought a delicious sauce, and fresh garlic, nice touch. The Cubans were 4/5, the Bacalao were 5/5, as were the Yuca and regular fries. I personally prefer different bread, with more pickles and ham, but definitely recommend this place and will plan a visit to dine-in, to try their fresh juices and other menu items. I ordered delivery so could not report on service, beyond everything was well-packaged with care.

The amount of times I have walked by here and never came in is actually pretty funny. It is a small mexican food restaurant but they had a table for us two in the back near the bathrooms. They had two tables crammed next to each other in the back. Our first table we were seated at was like literally on top of the people sitting in the booth next to us. We then asked to move to the other table they said it was fine but we kinda got a look from the waitress like are you guys serious like it was a hassle to move us or something. Not to mention that these tables are not made for two people to comfortable sit and enjoy a meal at together. They are very small! When our waitress came to take our order I went first and told her all my allergies and than she just walked away after and didn't come back and didn't take my friends order or let me finish my order. It was the most oddest thing. So another waitress came to take our order and I told her that I gave some of my order to the other person and told her all my allergies and this waitress currently said how the other one did not tell her about all my allergies but did warn me that because the kitchen is soo small there may be cross contamination. My friend and I ordered drinks both margarita's on the rocks. They came out not that cold and pretty tasteless. For food I got their world famous corn with cheese. My friend got the corn to but with the spicy powder on top of it. We decided the corn was the best thing. We also both ordered the salad but I got it with chicken and my friend got it with shrimp. We both did not really enjoy our salads but she ate hers I just had a few bites and then packed up the rest to go even though I ended up just throwing it away later in day. I will not be coming back even if I am with a friend who wants to. Many other mexican restaurants in this city where the staff is friendly and food and drinks are much better than what we had experienced here.
