THE COOKS DONT READ THE ORDERS! Every time I go to El Pollo Loco I order the same thing... a double chicken avocado salad with NO sour cream. The past 2 times I've ordered it there was sour cream on it. This time I ordered the salad and also 2 shrimp tacos with NO Baja sauce. The cashier did their job and put NO sauce on the ticket however there's only so much they can do, the cooks are just oblivious. There was sauce on both of the tacos AND sour cream on my salad... again. So disappointing! I've given them several chances and they've failed every time. This chain is trash. We moved away from California and used to frequent El Pollo Loco. Tried to redeem a coupon for free burrito before expiration and the restaurant said they couldnt take it. Said go to another restaurant, which is horrible service. DM was in the store and couldn't approve the coupon. What? Wasn't even expired. Obviously, company has a broken culture. Third time I've come by and the inside dining is closed. The drive thru line took over 405 mins. The online ordering wouldn't let me order an all breast meat meal...when I got my food, the chicken pieces were small and not worth the cost. On January 12 I ordered a $45 family meal at about 8PM using the El Pollo Loco app. Fifteen minutes later I arrived to pick up the food, and they told me at the door that they ran out of food at 7PM and could not fill my order. They said they would refund my CC the next day. I had guests to feed, so I drove a half-hour round trip to the Ventura, Victoria ave store, and they filled my order but I had to pay a second time. After three days, no refund appeared in my account. I called every day for a week but nobody would answer the phone. I drove by and saw the store was open, but the lobby was locked and the drive thru had a long line. Finally, after 7 days I went back to the store and kept knocking on the door until they came. I showed my receipt and explained the situation, and said I would only accept a cash refund at this point. After a lot of back-and-forth with the manager who stayed in the back and would not come talk to me, the counter person finally brought out my cash refund. Terrible customer service! I also filed a complaint on the ElPolloLoco.com corporate website, but haven't heard back after more than ten days, despite their promised 48-hours response time. read more

about 3 weeks ago, I ordered food on line trusting that they would do the right thing putting everything in a bag when I picked up my food which I normally don't check if everything is in there, well they forgot one item until I got home I've noticed that my one item is not here, I called the restaurant if I can get a credit right away and they refused to do so, asking me to go back the following day for a credit, and said it would show up in my card in 3 business day, until now never gotten a credit, and for a small amount it wasn't really matter that much so I let it go, I still go there but will never order on line again and just pay it cash in the restaurant. Looks like they don't clean much. All the tables were dirty and the drink area was sticky and spills everywhere. Took them about 5 minutes to even acknowledge that me and my mom and a bunch of other people were waiting to get our orders placed. There was 1 car in the drive thru not very busy and after I went up to get my food she didn't even ask if I needed anything else which I did and left the counter area I had to stand there another 5 minutes before I got annoyed and just called out to one of the workers who was too busy chatting and giggling with another male worker about who knows what so she could get me what I needed. I continue to be impressed by this location of El Pollo Loco. Friendly, clean and efficient. I always get their fajita burrito, its great with the generous amounts of delicious salsa that is available. I also love their churros. Those things are addictive, hot, sweet and tender. This is the worst pollo loco. The employees are VERY rude! With the pandemic going on these ladies DO NOT wear any gloves or a mask! I seen them handle money while serving food. I ordered shrimp tacos and they gave me chicken. I normally just suck it up but I was really craving a shrimp taco so I drove back and the manager came out and acted like I screwed up the order! I showed her the receipt clearly showing I ordered the shrimp tacos and she copped an attitude and they gave me my shrimp tacos. No apology just attitude! Btw 3 shrimp in the taco. The same EPL chicken and menu items, but this location is located in the heart of oxnard, and always appears filthy. Windows oily, tables unwiped, trash on the floor, salsa cups all over, etc... you're beginning to see a trend. However, it is one of few EPLs in the area. If all sides are the same price, why can't substitutions be made when ordering a family meal. The family comes with rice and beans, however, not everyone wants rice and beans. So when asking to switch out the sides, we were told that the manager would only allow for one of the two sides to be substituted. I don't understand this practice since if you were to order the sides "a la carte", the would cost the same. So why not substitute if the cost would essentially be the same? When asked if we could substitute both items again, the person said that it's a "pro-mo-tion", saying it as if we didn't understand what we were ordering. There is no need to be rude or condescending, so that put us off. Her reasoning again was that she was just following the rules and that her manager said that she could only substitute one order. After this, we gave up and took the one substitution. After a long day of cleaning, anyone would just want to have good food and relax. However, this experience was very off-putting. Not to mention that we didn't get our order of wings, but we weren't about to go back and say anything because we could only imagine the reasoning behind that and to endure anymore rudeness was not desired. I had not been here in years, but recently it's my second visit here in the last week. The food option I ate was good, but the cleaning ethics were not. While dining I noticed a worker who was cleaning off tables. Once done cleaning the tables, she came back around to sweep the floor. I was shocked when I saw the worker use the (floor) broom on the table seating benches. I think it more sanitary to have separate rags/wipes for the table tops and the seats - and save the broom for the floor. read more

So, El Pollo Loco corporate apparently saw my review and reached out to me. They had me go to their website to lodge my complaint. They promised to contact the restaurants general manager. While I am happy that someone listened, they offered me a desert or a side item free, to compensate for the burrito, an entree item, that I paid for and did not receive. Free churros or a side of beans doesn't cover the burrito I paid for and didn't receive and it doesn't cover the trouble I went through. Good, not great, roasted chicken. A few years ago they had a niche in South American style roasted chicken and they have not adapted to that change and cling to a model which worked 15+ years ago. The brand has not endured well over time . This visit the condiment counter was messy and not fully stocked. The pinto beans were greasy and devoid of flavor. No one in the place but every square of the grill was covered with cooked chicken just burning up and drying out. This was not the holding grill for the already cooked stuff, it was full flame. This place is close to my house, so I thought I'd give it a go. Chicken was charred black and dried-out! Normally, it is the white meat that gets overcooked with chicken, but these were thighs and legs. The salsa or pico de gallo had way too much of one ingredient (but can't tell which) that overwhelmed the flavor. I tried to moisten the chicken with it, but I ended up showing my order to the manager and left it on the counter. Pretty dingy place too. This is the closest location to my house, unfortunately it's not even close to being the most decent choice when it comes to the franchise. This specific location is always filthy, fingerprinted glass food particles on the floor and tables, and the trash cans are always overflowing. The food is a hit or miss sometimes it's good, other times it's dry and almost burnt. And last the customer service is frustrating. My last order from this location was a mobile curbside pick up. I arrived on time and waited in the designated location, I waited for 13 minutes before I realized there was a sign on the front door stating the dining room was closed and all mobile orders needed to go through the drive-through window. Well the line was super long and I had to be at work soon so I had to cancel my order; the message on the app said to call the store to cancel, go figure they never answered the phone ...I'm don't ordering from this el pollo loco. read more

I placed an online order at 7:50 pm and I had to wait until 9:30 because the driver canceled my order after tracking it for an hour, and when I called the location they NEVER answered the phone, even after calling them 3 times, so I had to drive all over the place just to see that they were already closing even though they were supposed to close at 10:30,it's seems that there is no manager there or something because the place is a mess.And when I get there I knocked the door and I told one of the employees about my situation and I told her that I wanted a refund and she was rude to me,and she told me that I have to cancel my order through the app in order to get the refund, but how would I cancel the order if on the app it says that is completed,so I couldn't cancel it even if I wanted to. And in the end I told her to just gave me the food so she gave me literally the leftovers. Anyways,if you read this I hope is helpful to you guys. mad props to el pollo loco for making the most disgusting $8 burrito I ever had. I hadnt eaten in several hours and I was really hungry, i had to get something and saw this place. Ordered the Ultimate avacado chicken burrito. Really sloppy and wet, it was blowing out of both ends 10 seconds after picking it up. The texture of whole beans, guacamole, and chunked chicken is just all wrong. The tortilla was even disguating as they fried it on the flat top to the point of being tough and really chewy. I ate less than half and threw it back in the bag to stink up my car until I could throw it away.
