Just moved to the area and was very excited to try. Big disappointment. False advertisement, THEY DO NOT MAKE HOMEMADE tortillas. The flies were horrible and they were literally out of everything. I rarely eat here. But when I do I usually order breakfast burritos to go. Last time we ordered they forgot the eggs in the burrito. now today they took 55 mins for 3 breakfast burritos. And the one lady who works there is always rude and unpleasant. And whoever designed the bar failed. We went there once and it was so tall I could barely get in the chair. I've been getting posts on my feed on Instagram about their delicious food so I thought I'd drop in and see if the food was as good as it looks in the pictures. A small, quaint restaurant with a lot of charm that's right smack in the middle of town with easy freeway access. We were promptly greeted at sat. Chips and salsa were delicious. I asked to see if they had a spicier salsa as I do with all Mexican restaurants , and they did! The green tomatillo and green (Doña style) sauce were legit. I ordered a menudo and quesabirria taco with consumé. Wife ordered steak chimichanga plate. Both were decent but lacking salt. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday night but I noticed a lot of people picking up to go orders. Service was just ok. Our server could've been a little friendlier but definitely did the job in getting our requests. Worthy note: wifey did say their horchata was excellent!! It's hard to please my wife when it comes to horchata. Will come back when I'm in town. read more

The food is great. Some of the best Mexican food I have had. But the service as of recent has become a bit rough. And the prices on the menu right now do not reflect the actual price. For example, I got a chimichanga and a beer. The menu for the chimichanga said $11.50 and the beer was $5. When I got the receipt, I was charged $12.50 and $6 respectively. I also remember when the prices here were actually reasonable, its not even a draft beer that I got, it was a bottle. I can go to Austin and it won't be that much. Used to love this place but its gotten pretty ridiculous. read more

Crispy tacos, beef fajitas, salsa, rice and beans were all really good. was not that big of a fan of the enchiladas with red sauce. Wish I would have gotten the green sauce. I like my Tortillas a little toasted, these felt like they were microwaved. Staff were all very nice. read more

f food is excellent I give 5 stars regardless of the decor or surroundings. This is the best authentic Mexican food I have found so far in my first year in the Austin area after years in the BEST Mexican food town in the country....Oakland, CA. And I have had plenty of experience with authentic food in Mexico. I have not had that many different items on the menu because they make my favorite dishes which I tend to order every time. All I can tell you is eat here and you will not be sorry. It starts with their perfect table salsa......altho it is a tex-mex typical tomato based sauce which is not authentic......rarely seen in Mexico. So I do miss the variety of interesting unique salsas found in Oakland restaurants......all Mexican west coast cuisine styles from Oaxaca up to Sonora. Their barbacoa especially in their torta and their shrimp quesadilla are both absolutely perfect. I must comment on the pastor.....it is the best I have ever had ANYWHERE. It is not cooked on a trompo because it's not practical....but no matter, the recipe and abundance of pineapple chunks is to die for. I get the quesadilla because the marinade flavor goes so well with melted cheese. The owner told me he was given the recipe by a master from Mexico city and I am not surprised. It is truly addictive. Service is fast and friendly. I go back once for lunch every 1-2 weeks and it is 10 miles north....but who cares when the food is this good. read more

I came here based on the high reviews. It's a sweet place with limited parking and seating, but very popular around 1:30pm when I went today. I was greeted by a nice waitress with a great affordable menu, and I had to ask for chips as I was sitting for a while. The salsa only comes in one heat level, medium-hot, that goes for both the red and green. The flavor tastes great. It took a while for the chicken chimichanga to come out, but it was worth the wait. Although I prefer a fork rather than a spoon to eat my dish, I learned that a spoon isn't really that hard to use to dig into it and it was very, very good. Maybe you can tell that this is no ordinary restaurant by the photo of the bacon laden charros and the shape of the chimichanga. The rice is mild, fluffy and moist. The pillowy Sopapillas are huge and sweet with sugar and cinnamon, dappled with flowers of whipped cream. You get three for four dollars The ladies' room was clean. It's really feels like you're eating at home ... it's quiet, soft playing salsa music, and even sparkly-eyed six year old helping with the tables. Awww! We stopped in for breakfast this week and we were pleasantly surprised by this cute little place. The migas and the chilaquiles were both delicious and we both cleaned our plates. And the prices were very reasonable. Service was very personable and attentive. The building itself is not spectacular but the inside is clean and the restroom was spotless. If in the area again we hope to give the extensive lunch/dinner menu a taste. read more

Absolutely the best Mexican food hands down. I drive a minimum of 30-45min round trip, but it's worth it every time. I haven't had a bad meal; from their breakfast, to their California burrito, enchiladas, and taco salad. It's all amazing. We've lived in Jarrell about a year and somehow didn't eat al El Pitayo til just before Covid precautions started...and man for I regret taking so long to eat here! This place is, by far, my favorite place to eat in town. The food, staff, and prices can't be beat, so much so that we eat from here at least twice a week but sometimes up to 4 times! My husband loves their shredded chicken tacos or shredded chicken bowls, while I go between their happy hour street tacos with rajas and nopales (graciously added to the official menu for me) or chilaquiles. For $5 M-F from 4-7p you can have 5 super stuffed full street tacos, which is a huge meal on its own, so that's my usual go to during those hours. Any other time, it's chilaquiles with refritos and potatoes for only $6.50. Humorously, by brother in law tried to impress my husband and I with a "cheap" place for chilaquiles in Georgetown only to get there and find that their breakfast plate was $10 and didn't include eggs (also it was terrible in general, lol). Since that experience, we've converted him and his gf to chilaquiles at El Pitayo. Right now, they have curbside, carryout, and dine in. On most weeks we use a little of both to go and dine in. Social distancing is in effect inside the restaurant with plenty of space between each table, and the tables get wiped down thoroughly between patrons. Masks are required until you're seated and to move about the restaurant. We usually eat brunch here on Saturdays between 10-12 and have never had trouble with overcrowding. Other times I usually just run in to pick up our food. The wait for pickup can be a few minutes, as they have a small staff, but it's never been bad enough to make a stink about. Besides, it's worth the wait for the food, lol. read more

The food was okay - although we didn't get what we ordered - but it was the service (or lack of) that really turned us off. We were treated as an afterthought and clearly got the impression that no one cared we had received the wrong meal. I wanted to give them another chance as it could have just been a bad day. I looked at their menu online and I had to try their food. I had high expectations based on their instagram ad and they didn't disappoint. It was worth the 25 minutes drive there and back. I ordered online for curbside pick-up and it was ready on time. I had the Carne Assada Homefries, which was heaven, a steak fajita, which was good, and some churros w/ caramel, which was great. The food is authentic and amazing. We were a party of ten with kids and teenagers. There were empty plates to pick up after eating. Everyone loved their food. We got quesobirria tacos, taco salad, California burrito and mini tacos with assorted meats. All was good. We got salsa with chips. Salsa was flavorful but not spicy. One of the best Mexican or Tex-Mex places I have ever been to. I tried them out when they first opened to give them a shot, everything was quality and affordable. I was so impressed that I came back again, and again, and again, and again. I've been trying out the entire menu and it never lets me down. Tacos, tortas, queso, agua frescas, rice, chips & salsa, etc it's hard to go wrong. There is an amazing smoky taste to their meats and corn they put in a few specialty items. I wonder if they use the smoker outback to achieve this? The staff is small town friendly. This place would do great in a big town, but I'm glad it's near me. I thought about how far I would drive to get to this restaurant if I ever moved from Jarrell, and I concluded that I just need to keep coming in rather than think about the future sadness without this restaurant in my life. read more
