Got in just in time before the dinner crowd so I was seated immediately. While I was reading the menu the restaurant started to fill up quickly so that was my first indication this place must be good. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Chili Verde plate and the house Margarita. Both on point. The chili verde plate was actually more than I could finish but I gave it my best shot. My companion asked about the Shrimp Cocktail as an appetizer, it's not an appetizer, its an entree. He decided on a different dish. He ended up with 2 entrées being served at the same time. Stupid. My shrimp cocktail entree was appx 6 med chewy cooked shrimp in tomato juice with some chopped vegetables. We each had top shelf margaritas which tasted like thick sugar mix - I couldn't drink mine. I must admit the first time I came to this establishment the service was better nonetheless the food was consistent & still genuinely good tasting Mexican food. As we were seated we were brought chips and salsa. I asked for two saucers (so I'm not dripping salsa all over the table) The saucers were never brought. Smh It wasn't bad it just wasn't what I ordered. I ordered the chicken enchilada plate and the food was good, chicken could have been a bit more seasoned but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My son ordered the quesadilla kids meal. He ate all of His food. He is 6 so that's rare for Him ( Must have been good). I later found out once I asked for the check that our waiters name was Gustavo. Never will i return to this place, it was my first time and the food had little to no flavor I got chicken fajitas and my husband got a mojarra. Beans had to flavor rice was not so great and guacamole was turning black.!! on top of it they like to add on extra money for tips after paid I left a $15 cash tip! when my total was only $44 so that brought my total to $59 I get a notification about the payment being processed the next day and it's for over $60 on my card after I left a cash tip.! this is wrong an completely fraudulent I disputed this with my bank luckily I have proof of what I left this is terrible service of them read more

They don't wear name tags, but short Mexican guy, with bushy eyebrows and buzz cut on top. He was our server and this specific day did a horrible job. Took forever to come to the table to take our order. We were the only customers there at this time. He never asked if we needed refills anything etc. I had to get our own box to go. And we went up to ask for the check. So we didn't leave a tip. He absolutely didn't deserve one. As we are walking out the door. He yells "Thanks For The Tip My Friend!" We just kept walking. Ever since he won't serve us won't make eye contact. You chose to work at a job were tips isn't required. It's not a law. You did a poor job. So no tip. This is my second time dining here and unfortunately my second experience is the reason I'm only giving them 2 stars. Their customer service was just ok but the food on this particular visit was HORRIBLE! I was so excited to come back and feast on the shrimp enchiladas plate. I had been ranting and raving about how good it was and couldn't wait to endings. First let me say that we weren't greeted right away by our waiter. We waited for approx 7 minutes before anyone even approached us. The chips were stale and my food was salty and flavorless; nothing like my first experience. I ordered a michelada and it was GROSS. It was pure tomato juice, no lime, no chamoy, no spice and no kick! You can look at the photo and tell there's no excitement in that glass. I've had better at hole in the wall places. I made a terrible mistake.... I allowed my love for pozole lead me into a place I should not have. We where in the area by chance and I was in the mood for pozole and ended up choosing this place since it had four stars on Yelp. The place was clean and the staff was friendly and made sure we got everything we needed quickly. Our order included a bowl of pozole, a carne asada taco with rice and beans, and a plate of chorizo con huevos. Pretty simple dishes (except for the pozole, you need to be a dang artist in the kitchen to pull it off) . When I got the pozole i knew there was something about it that didn't seem right but I dove in anyways. It had a weird taste ( i know this should have been a sign) but i figured it was because they probably missed an ingredient. I tried the carne asada and it had the taste i have tasted in other restaurants before, Iloilo that has been used in other foods. This is just my opinion, but you know when you fry fish the grease gets the taste of the fish so if you try and use the same grease anything you cook with it will have that flavor???? Well that's what it tasted like to me. The rice had the same look and taste, so i completely deserved what happened to me... The chorizo con huevos wasn't anything to write home about but just ok. The reason I left a one star rating was due to the fact i got sick from the pozole. I don't want to be graphic but it there my stomach up!!!! I feel the pozole was bad but there's no way of proving it so I'll just say it was suspect... lol. read more

Lol El Perico Ranchero is a quaint little Mexican Restaurant tucked away in a huge shopping center in the heart of Upland Ca. It's cool decor reminds me of a little cantina in Ensenada. The decor elements of the chairs, the colorful tablecloths and the custom made parrots dangling from the ceiling are amazing to look at. Now to the wonderful food. We tried out El Perico Ranchero at the suggestion of one of our friends and we were pleasantly surprised at this place! El Perico Ranchero has some of the best authentic Mexican food at some really great prices. We first tried El Perico out on Taco Tuesday were my wife and I tried out both the hard shelled and soft tacos and both were equally as good. Something I don't get at other Mexican restaurants, especially the chains is anything Al Pastor. This is something I really love and is not offered in many places but was offered here and it was delicious. We went back another evening with a group of friends and had a smorgasbord of food that was all so very good. From the sea food, burritos to their specials. All had such unique tastes. Nothing like the Mexican chain restaurants that I so detest. They also make some of the absolute best Margaritas I have had in any Mexican restaurant. Granted, this is not rocket science, but they are very generous with the tequila, unlike other places. At the end of the evening, you KNOW that you had several really good Margaritas! If you are looking for delicious authentic Mexican food at a very good price, I would suggest trying El Perico Ranchero. I really don't think you can do better than this! read more
