terrible fajitas asked for corn tortillas got none. almost no meat just a pile of cooked peppers. enchiladas even worse very odd colored rice and a section of Styrofoam tray had brown soup I think was supposed to be beans. ordered chicken got beef could not eat it. two items $24 wasted. Just moved to DE from San Antonio, TX and was having difficulty finding a decent Mexican restaurant. El Nopal is a diamond in the rough! We had the pork and chicken tacos (on corn tortillas! FINALLY!) as well as the camarones plate. You have to get the tacos "Mexican style" with cilantro and onions. The meat was excellent and flavorful. This place has the most authenic mexican I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The sauces are amazing, the tacos de lingua were tender and perfectly cooked and seasoned, steak tacos are to die for and the tomales are a MUST TRY!!!! We will be coming back weekly for dinner! read more

I'm from Cali and my expectation for Mexican food is higher than most, but their tamales were merely okay, their rice was too dry and the beans were just, okay. Authentic, delicious, cheap. The decor is not the best, but that is how you know the place will be good and affordable. Get the lengua and alpastor (you choose whether you want it on tacos, tostadas, etc). Quesadillas are great too and I love the homeade hot sauce (although be careful it packs some heat). read more

I was super excited to try this place based on other reviews. I had two tacos, Mexican style, one chicken and one pork. I thought that Mexican style was supposed to have cilantro & onions on it...neither one did, just the meat. They were ok; the chicken was definitely better, as the pork one just seemed like it was chopped up breakfast sausage. I also had a chicken sope and that was pretty good. The staff was not as welcoming as I had heard, but the service was fast (maybe because they didn't prepare my tacos completely). I may give it one more shot, but it won't be anytime soon. My husband and I got our food to go. It was delicious. My husband is really picky with food and he loved it. I got the steak tacos Mexican style, the meat was little dry but it was sooo good. They also gave us some hot sauce to add to our food. My husband got beef tacos with just cheese. We also ordered chips and salsa. Everything tasted fresh and made in house. Very disappointed! We thought this was going to be a great authentic Mexican restaurant. Our food was "okay" at best. The salsa was terrible. It was full of salt and no flavor (right how does that happen?) We ordered the Carnival and chicken enchiladas. They were not terrible but far from good. Service was not great either. I am so happy to find a place in Delaware that sells REAL tacos, which are tacos in soft corn tortillas, even though they do offer the "American" version of hard shell tacos, which in my opinion is a sin. They're pastor tacos remind me of home! I love that it's authentic Mexican food. read more

I was so excited to try this place and was very disappointed. Everyone was raving about the tacos. Since I am not a big fan of all that cilantro, I decided to order my tacos "american style". The ingredients were very fresh and plentiful for the price, which is impressive, but the food lacked real flavor. Also, I was very disappointed in their refried beans. This is one of my favorites....I like to eat them with/on everything. They were horrible. Again, no flavor. I added some salt and sour cream and it improved them but the texture was almost like soup....they were very runny. I believe in giving second chances so the next time I am craving mexican, I will try them again. Any recommendations from anyone? read more

Finally found a Mexican restaurant that serves lengua! Soooooooo good, especially with green sauce (salsa verde)!

The beef tounge tacos were really good. The meat was really tender. I ordered my kids the chicken tacos they didn't like them, I tasted it and the meat was really dry. So I'll stick to the beef for now. read more
