For starters, at least they don't use chips right out of the bag. Those are just not allowed at a mexican restaurant. They are warm, but the salsa lacks in spice. The mild was basically stewed tomatoes dumped into a bowl. No onion, no cilantro or garlic. The spicy version probably just had some hot sauce tossed in. Aside from the lackluster salsa, I really do enjoy their Beef Chimichanga. It is slow-cooked meat, shredded. Tastes almost like barbecue seasoned. Then its inside of a deep fried tortilla. I crave these now, though the rest of the menu for the rest of the family is just eh. Luckily my kids are three and four and just fill up on chips and salsa and my refried beans. Ambiance is good for families, and now that its all non smoking, I can actuallly eat there without choking! Bottom Line: If you are a fan of the pulled bbq beef, I recommend the chimichanga. This place has been a mainstay for Mexican dining in our area for years. It has I believe a good reputation. I've been here numerous times over the last 25 years always at someone else's suggestion. I've never been impressed. Went again tonight. Friday around 7. Let me just say the service and the willingness to please are outstanding. Wish I could say the same about the food which was abysmal. Really lacking in effort. I ordered the chicken fajitas. They were about $5 more than I have ever paid for the same dish. I expected a good experience. Normally they come out on a sizzling iron dish. These came out on a basic plate. Not only were the ingredients not sizzingly they were room temperature. The ingredients were also lacking in volume. About half of what is normally provided. The tortillas ( 3) were equally disappointing. Normally these are steamed so they are soft and hot. These were again room temperature and harder than they should be served . Right out of the old plastic bag! Just ugh! Middle School cafeteria quality. My 2 fellow dinners were also not happy with the food. Shame on this place. So little effort. I had high hopes for this place, since it's so very very close to my new house. I got the chicken enchiladas as a carry out, and we were both a little disappointed. It's not that they were bad, per se, but they weren't what we were expecting. Rather dry, and some unexpected (in a not great way) flavors were in there. We'll definitely try again, and eat-in this time to see if the experience is better. The service was extremely friendly, and the food was ready for me by the time I arrived to pick it up, so they are definitely worth a second chance. Going to have to give it a thumbs down. First off, walking in we were not even acknowledged nor greeted by anyone! My husband said El Nibble Nook was "whelming" as in the food was so underwhelming it was almost overwhelmingly bad. Though I will say they are a fine haired notch better than Mexico Lindo. Grats, it's not Alpo! I'm very conflicted on how to give this place a rating. We were sat in the very back of a nearly empty restaurant. Our server was a bit abrupt but nice enough. We asked for recommendations and took her advice on the appetizer and ordered a chica size Botanas. I didn't take her advice on dinner, not sure it would have mattered much though. The Botanas were tortilla chips, maybe 8, smothered in refried beans and cheese with some peppers, tomatoes, 3 pieces of avocado and 2 small pieces of dried out sausage. By "piece" I'm talking 1/4" thick rounds that were then cut in half. My husband stole the first piece, luckily?? we then managed to find a second piece so I could try it. Oh, and it had green olives on it too. A very odd combination, but maybe it's good with better ingredients. As for the salsa, someone else mentioned stewed tomatoes and that's pretty accurate. I've had worse things labeled as salsa before. The chips weren't bad but they are not fresh. Then dinner came! My husband ordered the Enchiladas de Jocque. This is supposed to be a spicy chicken with a ranchero sauce on it. It looked okay, but he said it was very bland. I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga. The chimi was cooked perfectly!! The tortilla was just slightly browned and perfectly crunchy. However, the chicken in it tasted like barbecue chicken. There wasn't anything remotely mexican, texmex, or southwest about it. I can't say it was "bad" as the chicken was tender but if I'm at a mexican place I don't expect to get barbecue! The beans are canned. The rice looked like it should be good, but alas it was just rice with more stewed tomatoes thrown in and left to dry out. Fortunately we had a groupon. Still $20 I could have better spent somewhere else, like the Sonic across the street or gone over to Pontiac for some good and truly authentic mexican food. read more

This was some of the worse food I have ever eaten. Extremely disappointed. Beans were a hard, dry lump. Rice was hard and tasted like they were mixed with ketchup. Guacamole was old and brown. Pop tasted very odd. I got the chicken fajitas and was expecting a delicious dish for their outrageous price of $17, and boy was I wrong! Chicken was rubbery and didn't even come out on a skillet! I have been a fan of this restaurant for over 40 years. I'm sad to say, tonight was the last trip. My husband and I travel from Dexter to go there. Where to start, the chips were stale, the cole slaw tasted old, the enchiladas went from three to two, there was way too much sauce and sour cream (the recipe for the sauce had obviously been altered) and there was an inordinate amount of beans and rice. The only redeeming feature of this mess was the Fried Ice Cream. So another go to restaurant is gone, I'll miss what used to be El Nibble Nook. read more

My family and i have been coming here for years and i cant get enough. Its a bummer this place has such a low rating. I guess you cant please everyone. Ive had a lot of the menu items and liked all of them. I love that they have different items you wont find at other mexican places. The salsa is simple and pretty good. The rice is ok and the beans could use a little water sometimes but taste good to me. And people need to drop the "beans strait from a can" bit. Get real. Why would any mexican restaurant (not just this one) cheat on the easiest and cheapest item they serve. Its common sense. Iv had canned beans like twice in my life (i usually make my own) and they taste nothing like any beans from any mexican place. So pipe down! The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. I have yet to find a better margarita anywhere. Its nice to actually get some alcohol instead of sour mix on the rocks like most places. I've been going here with my family for a few years now. The service has always been good. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I get the feeling that they enjoy working there. At most Mexican restaurants, either the beans or rice will have some meat (chicken stock, lard, etc.), but El Nibble Nook makes both rice and beans vegetarian (definitely a plus). Also, their menu is very vegetarian friendly: there are a number of options, but they can also make other entrées vegetarian. Good for picky eaters like me. The food is definitely not authentic, but if you want authentic, go to California or Texas. The portions are a good size - I always end up getting a take-home box. Also good for my deep-fried ice cream cravings. read more
