Among the sea of great restaurants I've been to while in Michigan, this place stood out because I've never been here before until now. I, however, really want to return on any trips to this area that I take in the future because the food is that good. The chips are amazing on their own but the queso elevates them to land in my personal top 10 of all time. Entree dishes are of an even higher quality, and I'll imagine it's not going to be easy to go without them when I head back home. The restaurant's interior is stunning, too, striking me the second I walked in. The staff here are great, and apparently some of them have been working here for decades! Overall, El Nibble Nook is a stunning jewel among the ocean of places I've eaten at during my vacation here, and I cannot wait to bring friends and family here next time I'm in town again. read more

This was the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. The salsa tasted and looked like it came from a jar. The chips were vastly undersalted. The rice was bland. The supremo sauce tasted like something you'd find on pasta, not a burrito. I've never seen a margarita so tiny. The sangria did not taste like it was freshly made. The service here left much to be desired. I had good memories of going here as a kid but I was incredibly disappointed coming back as an adult. Been going here forever it seems. A number of unique menu items like the Tiajuana Bypass combo plate with a simple but awesome California Burrito, Chicken Chalupa and a Shredded Beef Taco. The Seafood Burrito is excellent as are the Enchiladas. Even the beans and rice are good. Chips and salsa as your seated, great margaritas but be careful with those. This was the worst Mexican Food I've ever had. The service was ok, the ambiance was ok. I'm not sure how or why this place is always busy. They serve chips from a bag, salsa from a jar and the Queso was from a GFS can or from Gehl's cheese for a dispenser. I ordered a Botana and the chips were stale, they tried to cover it up with the beans and cheese. It had sliced pickles on it too. Have you ever had sliced pickles on a botana?! It was bizarre. My favorite 4 things on the menu: margaritas (house-made) chile rellenos (huge) California style tacos (that sweet and spicy beef!) salsa (perfect heat and consistency) The rest of the menu, in my opinion, is your standard Tex-Mex fare. Good restaurant, service was good, portion sizes are good. The food is quite tasty, it is however not Mexican, nor is it TexMex. The food is a midwestern version of Mexican food. Very mild spice levels, if you like more authentic spice content then you will likely be disappointed. The hottest item they have is Jalapeños. However, the flavors of what they do make is great. Disappointed. Been coming to El Nibble Nook for nearly 50 years! Don't get there much anymore since we've moved. Food is still fresh and excellent tasting, but portions were smaller this time. All Mexican food has always been large portions, it's expected! I'm not saying your meal should be gigantic to be good or worth it, but when my husband had a Mariachi's Caliente Grande and a California Style Burrito and was still hungry when we got home, it's obvious that portions were downsized considerably! Not a good value. Service was too attentive. We hadn't seen our friends in over a year and had a lot of catching up to do.... the waitress came every two minutes asking if we were ready to order, we hadn't even opened the menus! We dined here on a busy Friday night. Food was fantastic. The guacamole was on point. We all had meat free meals for Lent and all of them were great. I would definitely recommend dining here. This is our favorite casual Mexican restaurant. We probably go there once every two to three weeks - typically for dinner on Friday. The service staff is friendly and professional. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming. We have our go to selections. For me it's the chicken enchiladas and for my wife it's the spinach burrito. Have to start with.... If you're dining somewhere they should keep the kitchen open for dessert and after drinks or at least give you a heads up and ask. Restaurant was dead when we came in so you would think that service would be up to par. Madison our server was friendly and prompt on getting our food and refills. The good was also good. Same standards as I've always had here, which is why I gave them 3 stars, until we tried to order dessert and after dinner drinks. We were told sorry the kitchen is closed. It is unacceptable! It was only 9:10. We weren't told there was a last call or asked if we would be wanting to order dessert before they closed. Very poor customer service! *Quick update - The manager overheard my husband and I speaking on the way out and apologized. Pretty good Mexican spot up in metro-Detroit. The servings are massive and the price is just right. I went with the blue plate special, which was absolutely amazing. Their rice and beans were alright, but the burrito, enchilada, and flauta were all really good. I think next time I will order all flautas, I loved it that much. I had low expectations going in knowing that this isn't a real Mexican restaurant. We start out with zucchini fries which are undercooked but it's ok since it's veggies. No seasoning that I can tell and the ranch dressing doesn't add much. I figure I will go with something that is difficult to screw up so I go with the beef fajitas. Supposedly filet Mignon which is unusual to say the least. I ask it to be cooked medium but it comes out over cooked. The presentation is disappointing, it doesn't come on a skillet but on a plate with a mixture of overcooked and undercooked food like the bell peppers and onions. The flour tortillas look and taste store bought and comes folded on the same plate. This was by far the worst fajitas I've had in my entire life. In the past, the only real reason to go to this location was their margarita, because the food quality was adequate at best. I ordered from here on door dash for dinner tonight because I was craving Mexican. I got the three beef enchiladas with rice and beans. It came with free salsa. When I opened the container it looked like the food was old. The beans were hard and the rice was cold. The food tasted like it was leftovers from yesterday and kept in the fridge.
