The people who work here are very sweet and genuine. We went to celebrate 2 birthdays and they made sure it was special for everyone. If you're a little shy and don't want to get up and dance that's ok too. It takes some getting used to eating so low to the ground in dim light. Give your eyes a few minutes to adjust. If we were to go again, we might order the hummus and stop there. But we won't. I've been to Moroccan restaurants in other cities and other countries, and I've prepared some dishes myself so I know how flavorful it's supposed to be with all the herbs, spices, citrus, olives, and dried fruits. Where to start? For one thing, other than an obvious rub on the kebab, all the warm, delicious spices and herbs characteristic of Moroccan cuisine were MIA. In fact, afterwards we were describing the food as being like bad institutional cafeteria food or bad hospital food. Here's why: Vegetables on the plate were water-logged and tasteless - even the olives had no texture or more than a mildly salty flavor. In fact, everything but the kebab tasted boiled to death - hence the comparison to institutional food. Meat in the tagine (lamb and chicken) had all the character of what you take out of the pot after the stock is finished simmering - overcooked and stringy. Dolmas tasted mostly of vinegar and it was hard to tell what was inside them. We were told it was rice but it was mushy and tasteless. Kabob was dry, like meat that's given off all its juices because it was cooked over too-high heat. Baklava tasted only like sugar syrup, and the cocktail supposedly made with fruit juice felt and tasted syrupy too. And then there was the watery rice and couscous. All in all, such a huge disappointment at an unreasonably high price for what you get. We wondered if they wait to serve the main courses until the dancing starts, in order that diners don't notice how sad and flavorless the food is. And the hummus? it was ok, but if there was tahini or lemon in it, we couldn't tell. Like everything else, it was watery, dripping off the too-soft white-flour pita. They do have different dancers on different nights, according to someone we know whose friend sometimes dances there, but even the floor show left something to be desired. In a word - Avoid - it's a one-time only touristy thing, in my opinion, if you bother to go at all. But I must say, we laughed our way all through the meal because we kept ordering more dishes as we went, hoping to hit a winner - but didn't. We had great fun, even though the meal and the dancing weren't the star of the show! I made reservations at this place for my friend's birthday after reading all the reviews for special occasions and I was bent of getting it for my friend. Quaint entry, amazing interiors and LIVE belly dancing. The food is okay, although lamb is a better choice here! But the entertainment steals the show. Definitely a Must for special occasions. I have never written a bad review for a restaurant. Here will be the first moment. If I am spending a certain amount, I expect a certain quality of food. At $25 a plate, my meal was cold, my vegetables were clearly heated from a frozen bag of mixed vegetables from Costco, and the flavor was missing. First time back ( take out during Covid ) in 15 years. Ordered at 5pm, was told ready by 6 and had a 30 mins wait inside . Spent over $ 200 ( family gathering). Had great expectations and we were all very hungry but the food was cold, had 4 different lamb meals and the meat was too tough to cut without super sharp knife and tasteless , the meat seemed old, the 2 salads were tiny and seemed to have been soaked in some sort of liquid. We also had some chicken dishes which were tough as nails. One meal that was decent was the Bastilla, (well I ate it but nobody else did) but was also cold. We will not be going back. read more

This review is 5 stars for the dancing, music, and service, and 3 stars for the food. The dancing was beautiful and I loved the music. Service was warm, sincere, and helpful. Food needs just a bit of tweaking- meat was overcooked and some dishes need more flavor and freshness. It's a lovely concept with the carpets and ambience. The carpets and seating did not smell fresh. With a few improvements, this place could be someplace people would enjoy returning to regularly. Drinks were very good, as were the tea and baklava. One of the only few places I have gone to where there is something for all age groups. you'll see people from the age of 6 all the way up to 76 in this place, and all of them have smiles on their faces! why? Because the environment is super cool (authentic design, comfortable sitting space, great air circulation, great lighting, super clean), the food is second to none (great taste and healthy), the music is on point (it makes you want to get up and dance, but at the same time low enough so you can talk and enjoy your food), they have belly dancers (they dance very well), they have tasty alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, and they serve you in the most magical way! To top all this off, the restaurant is owned and operated by a very good family that works really hard to create a great experience for their customers! First time at this restaurant on the occasion of my girlfriend's birthday and it was spectacular! The food was great and the belly dancer was awesome! The showcase of the evening was the beautiful belly dancer of which I unfortunately do not recall her name. The service was great, we had a large party and they served everyone nearly at the same time which as you know with a large party is very difficult. First time here, I went to El Morocco in San Francisco years ago and it's been a while. I remembered I enjoyed the San Francisco dining experience from before and decided to take my family here (with the 2 kids, 4 and 11). TIP: get the coupon from restaurant.com if you can. It's get $100 for $50, the coupon was $6, so I ended up paying $56 for $100 worth of service here. Anyways, I wasn't really sure if this place was kid friendly but I took a shot anyway, and they are. There were three other tables with kids there and everyone were enjoying the experience. Now, I have already mentioned experience twice, and yes, it's not just a quick dinner. It's an experience here at El Morocco. When they sit you down, they place your party at a table, some will be on the sofa, and others will be on the cushions on the floor. There are no traditional chairs here. The service was very friendly, but it is loud. There were a continuous belly dancing show when we were there. They have a set menu, which ran $29 a person, half if your little person is 12 and under. The set comes as a 7 course meal (a soup, two types of salad, bread, a doughy sweet something, your entrée, a desert, and mint tea), so much better than ordering individually. I guess you can order entrees individually, but WHY??? I opted for the beef shih-kabobs, it was a very good choice. My wife had the chicken and couscous, I tasted it and was not super impressed. Besides the really good dinner, the belly dancer would come around pulling for volunteers to join in the fun. My little girl enjoyed that part very much. She went back and dance with her 3 other times during our dinner. Overall, no complaints from me. My dinner was great, think my wife probably wanted something else, but boo for her. I discovered this place off a GroupOn.. trying to discover a Moroccan restaurant for my go-to cravings. Most is what I expected, but this venue is HUGE.. if you have had a previous Moroccan restaurant experience and it has been fairly intimate and personal, this is not that kind of experience. There are live belly dancers, but instead of just one great performance you get two... one is more for show and the dancer is clearly all about the show..it was very much like what I imagine a strip club would be with her interactions and over the top facial expressions the other was very much a professional (classy and made it actually about the dance, you feel you've had a glimpse of their culture after watching her) and the owner even stated she had won competitions!! If you happen to be celebrating an event then you will be wearing a red cap and be announced over the microphone to everyone. This is really not a venue to attend if you're shy at all. The lamb and eggplant... and lamb with honey and almonds was delicious. Lamb was super tender, but there are a lot of bones which you are not warned about so be very careful. read more

First time dining in Morroccan restaurant last night and came in here with an open mind. And to my surprise, I was fairly impressed. We came here from a coworker recommendation. And I'm always up for trying different ethnic food. The decor and ambience was pretty good and the entertainment belly dancer was pretty good as well. The dancer came around to each table and interacted with the guess and kids. It was fun to see. The dancer was really good and pretty. We ordered the 32.00 entree that came with soup, salad and dessert and tea.The chicken was tender and no knife needed to slice the meat. Overall the price was worth it with an entertainment. There are other memorable dining experience tonight but don't want to spoil it. Give it a try. Also, the owner was attentive to the customers. We ordered the COMPLETE Meals (includes soup, salad, entree, tea, dessert): 2 FULL orders of Chicken Shish Kebab $29.95 - Safe bet for anyone not sure about the cuisine 1 FULL order Lamb Tagine $29.95 - Delicious, ask for hot sauce. 1 FULL order Lamb with Honey and Almonds $29.95 - VERY sweet (not for me) 1/2 order of Chicken Shish Kebab for my 11 year old $14.98 (HALF OFF for *kids portion) The parents were intrigued. Everyone but my Mom was a little bummed that the belly dancer wasn't the hottie that we had seen once before. Mom was VERY pleased to see someone dancing, who was "normal" *smiles* The dancer was very talented and everyone was encouraged to get involved after the initial show. Good times. The food isn't awesome, but it's a cool spot to eat some dinner and be entertained if you happen to be there during a performance. The website states shows 3 show per night; NOT ACCURATE. If you're looking for a place to celebrate, this is it. I recently hosted my birthday celebration and it was the most fun I have ever enjoyed. I have been eating at the restaurant for many years under the former owner so it was nice to hear they re-opened and still in the family. The food is delicious as always and the staff was friendly. This place is a scam! A bottle of korbel or Barefoot which you can get at Trader Joe's for $3 is $34. The food is extremely overpriced. I understand it's a whole experience. Service is terrible. We were there for about 2 hrs before we had to get up and find someone to take our order. 3 hrs later we wanted to leave and never got the tea or dessert. Fine who cares at this point we are done. They totally overcharged us and they do it on purpose since the bill didn't include the breakout it just has a total. You can go to Aquarella in SF for the price of this old, outdated place. I love the ambiance at El Morrocco! The decor, the service, the belly dancing all transported me and my husband to Morocco. Thank you for your wonderful establishment! The only reason that I took one star off is for the food. The food was good, but there was a lack of spice for Moroccan food. We ordered full dinners of Chicken Tajine and Honey Lamb. Maybe it was because of the targeted audience, but we like spice and had to add Harissa to everything. The food was delicious, the ambiance was awesome, and the entertainment was delightful. It's a complete six-course meal. You wash your hands at the table, there's rosewater on your hands at the end of the meal. My chicken tagine was delicious. My cousin really enjoyed her lamb, my parents loved their kebabs. Seating was a little tough, but that's because our parents were a bit older and you're sitting closer to the ground. You are there for the experience of it all, so it's well worth it. This is my favorite place to eat - dinner and a belly dance show. True Moroccan culture and food. I have been coming here for two decades and they same host still seats us. The drinks are fantastic - the atmosphere works for family, romantic dates - birthday and more! The food is so quality it melts in your mouth!
