Small pace, bright, clean with amazing music playing . I placed my to go order & it was ready in less than 10 minutes. I ordered what's essentially a beef empanada. It was so good I ate it on my drive home . For my main entree I had the pork, yellow rice and salad. The veggies were super fresh and the portions were huge!! Well, I decided to take a chance on this place. Not going to go back as I went for the one classic puerto Rican dish that should always be there and was told they didn't have any. On top of that the only server in the place gave me a menu and then sat down and started playing on her phone. No questions on if I wanted a drink or what they had on special. Woohoo Mofongo! I grew up in Miami, but I live in Dallas now so I'm always looking for good Latin food. I've tried another place in Irving and the mofongo was super dry there. But not this place! Fried pork was flavorful and moist. The mofongo was moist and perfectly garlicky as well. I wish they had it with chicarrones in it though, would've taken it to another level! I also tried the coco cheese flan and it was tasty. Kinda like cheesecake, creamy but still light and a hint of coconut flavor. I only had the flan, so can't comment on anything but flan and the service, but man what a flan it was!!!! Made of cream cheese, not milk so it was the perfect hybrid of cheesecake and flan. I didn't give it a 5 just because of the amount I paid for my meal was expensive and it was served on a plastic plate and the wear was plastic too. We went in with a group of 10, 6 adults and 4 kids. Initially we were concerned about space because we called ahead of time and it seemed like maybe there wasn't much room. Well, there isn't much room in the dining area BUT they were very attentive and we had zero issues. We all shared the sorullitos de maiz con queso, which is like a hushpuppie with cheese inside. AMAZING! Next we ordered the bacalaito, it is a codfish fritter, somewhat like a pancake. It is huge but really good as well. Not much of a strong fish flavor to it, thin and crispy. I ordered the pernil mofongo, which is roasted pork. I though it was great! There was no need to add any salt or pepper in my opinion, everything was seasoned well. The "mofongo" plantain part of the dish was tasty and had a little bit of a strong garlic flavor but I like garlic so that wasn't an issue for me. In our group we all tried different options of mofongo, the beef, fried pork, chicken, and shrimp. The only complaint was that the shrimp was a smaller portion compared to the other meats. For dessert they had a special, it is a pastry stuffed with cream cheese. Also delicious! I honestly think this place is a hole in the wall restaurant, something you only happen to stumble upon. But once you do, you keep coming back! The family and service was very attentive, you can tell they really do love their food and their business. The most important ingredient in any dish is LOVE. We have tried at least 4 other places and none come close to this! The Pernil is on point! Moist and a little fatty as it is supposed to be and full of flavor. This stuff is amazing! First off let me just say this place takes Covid really seriously even at this point of the pandemic. When I arrived I couldn't even open the door although I saw people eating inside. I knew they were open because I had just called to order. Then I saw a girl run up to the door. I was so confused. Lol Then she proceeds to check my temperature at the door. I have gone to MANY restaurants and this is the first time they check my temp at a restaurant. The tables were spaced out as well. I went up to the cashier and she scans my card. She had one of those payment systems where we are asked to leave a tip. Since I was picking up my order I normally don't leave a tip but since she had a huge protection screen in front of the register she had to push the option for me and it made me feel super pressured to leave a tip. I didn't like that at all. Anyways after trying the empanadillas I decided to find somewhere else to find my Puerto Rican fix cause neither the chicken or the carne molida had flavor. They give you a sauce that taste like raisin canes sauce. Not sure if that's traditional. Can anyone recommend another place?
