Camarones Al Ajillo
Phillip D.

Fun evening with delicious food. Found a Puerto Rican restaurant to try. Most of the terms were difficult for us, the server was gracious to help us through the translation and break down what the items on menu were. We started with a single Alcapurrias De Carne. For entrees we had Camarones A La Ajillo con Arroz Con Grandules and Pechuga De Pollo Al Ajillo Von Bifongo with a side of salsa de queso. If that does not make sense, read the photo of the menu items. The food was very delicious, it was also freshly prepared. We will have this as a place to return.

Family run restaurant and it looked like three generations were present! Friendly service. Delicious shrimp mofongo. Everything on the plate was perfect.

I'm a fan of Caribbean food but this was my first time trying Puerto Rican food. I was so happy with our decision to try out this place because the food was good. The restaurant is located in a strip mall so it doesn't look like much from the outside. The decor on the inside leaves a little to be desired but who cares if the food is good. We were greeted immediately and allowed to pick our own table. You have to scan the QR code to view the menu. I wish they had pictures or descriptions of their appetizers for newbies. We ordered tostones, carne frita (fried pork), and camarones al ajillo (garlic shrimp) with yellow rice and pigeon peas. The shrimp was cleaned well, fresh, and well seasoned. The garlic flavor came through but was not overpowering. Hubby enjoyed his fried pork and commented that it was similar to Haitian griot. We washed down our meals with kola champagne. The staff was friendly and came by often to check on us. The place was packed and I see why. I'll definitely be back to try other menu items.

Fritofongo with shrimp & churrasco. Best churrasco I've had in a minute, all of it was very filling, I even have leftovers.

As a Puerto Rican myself, this was one of the best mofongos I've had in a long time. Sabroso. 100% recommend, the food was delicious & the service was amazing. Walking in the ambiance,I felt like I was stepping into a chinchorro in PR, salsa blasting from the speakers & being greeted as soon as I came in. Sentí el calorcito de PR, gracias al equipo de El Mofongo.

Pechuga relleno mofongo and yellow rice and pigeon peas. Yummy! Tamarind juice is exceptional!

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. It wasn't a busy time of day and we were able to have prompt service because of it. The owner explained all of the meals and homemade drink selections. The food came in large portions and was incredibly good. Chicken was juicy and the cream sauce was excellent. Definitely will return....

Food n service? Impeccable!! I love the flavoring n spices. It's not hot spicy food. The seasoning is perfect on the beans, meat, tostonas, mofongo, n shrimp. The cozy feel goes hand n hand with the food. Good sized portions n a large menu of deliciousness!! Enjoy everyone!

The food was absolutely delicious! The second you walk in you are welcomed like family. Dona Soco was so sweet and personable, she takes pride in her cooking and you can taste the love in every bite! I recommend the alcapurrias and mofongo, it was so good

Delicious! So hard to find Puerto Rican food anywhere and this was delicious. Many of the items were unavailable when we went but what we had was amazing.

Ever since I went to Puerto Rico I have been searching for authentic Puerta Rican food, especially Mofongo. This place is the real deal. The appetizers cover the basics of Puerta Rican street food and the entrees cover all the different Mofongos you could dream of. The food is superb. The mofongo, pork, steak and sauce are all extremely delicious.

Mofongo con carne frita. Churrasco y arroz con gandules

The food here is so delicious. Made to order, hot, tasty. It does feel like you're eating at a food place back in the island. There was a lady who was the server and she was the best, prompt service, suggested desserts which were delicious as well. The ambiance was calm, more like a cafetín but nevertheless spectacular.

Located in unassuming part of Wylie/St.Paul the restaurant is smack down in the middle of the strip along other places I wanted to try. I ordered their Carne Frita con Arroz. Flavorful chunks of pork which came with fried banana, rice, and beans.. Even though I've never had an actual Puerto Rican food, I expected a whole lot of flavor just by reading about cuisine. I really enjoyed the carne frita and thought it is almost similar to lechon kawali (Filipino dish) but this much leaner part of the pig. Service was very friendly, they'll answer any question you might have especially if you are unfamiliar with the names of some of the dishes. This is a family ran business, you'll feel that upon walking in. Very homey and welcoming. You'll be transported to PR while dining here.

Now I'd be lying if I said I actually knew much about Puerto Rican food, or what to expect. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and quickly told to sit where we pleased. I didn't catch our servers name, but he was extremely helpful and recommended our drinks as well as some of the items on the menu. While checking out all the pictures of their food on Yelp, I kept seeing the Cod Fritter pop up! I told him I definitely wanted to try that, probably the best thing I had. We also had Carne Frita, Carne Pernil and a pair of empanadas, one meat and the other cheese. Everything we had was delicious. But their arroz con gandules made everything better. We can't wait to come back and try some of the other items on the menu...
