Ate dinner here with a work colleague. Nice atmosphere, friendly and efficient servers. Varied menu ... tapas, Cuban, Mexican, seafood, meat, and pork. All tasty. We had the Albindigas (meatballs), squid, and gambas (shrimp) with garlic to start, and then the Sea bass and lamb chops for entrées. Bread tasty too. Not inexpensive, but I thought it was decent value. Fairly empty just before 6 pm on a week night, so did not need our reservation.

What an unexpected nugget we found today! We originally left the hospital heading to Shake Shack, but waiting in traffic turned our attention to this elegant little place, so we pulled in to try it. The parking is super convenient, directly located outside the door. This is a must mention as places in this area are not always easy to park in/find parking. It was mid day after the lunch rush, so that possibly helped us. Tapas, TexMex, Cuban, Latin flare, they have it all! I was super impressed with the decor of this restaurant. Just walking to the doors, you step into a small little Latin world on their pretty patio. Upon entering the doors, there is a wall of crawling ivy that is simply stunning. I love my ivy plants, so this was immediately impressive. We were warmly greeted and seated in a lovely large booth. A Giara (flip-top swing stopper) bottle with water was brought to our table. I thought that was a nice touch. So much more elegant than a regular glass of water. The music playing set the tone for a little Havana scene. You really feel the atmosphere! Our server was excellent. He provided several suggestions on popular items. I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner and my aunt ordered the Tacos al Carbone. We contemplated getting tapas, but decided to keep it with TexMex. Our meal was delicious! Presentation was nice, everything was cooked well, the seasoning was on point, and the portions are a nice size. I was very impressed with our entire experience. I still can't say enough about the restaurant decor. Everything was top-notch and detailed. Even the table settings were detailed and elegant. I love the ambiance. Though we stopped in for a late lunch wearing our capri pants and flip flops, I can see this place also being a great date night spot. It's on the finer side of Spanish restaurants, but still cozy and comfortable to be dressed down. Very impressed! Our total for 2 meals and one glass of wine before tip was $68.00. Highly recommend.

I recently visited El Meson on a Sunday evening. We were greeted by the hostess into a welcoming atmosphere...cozy lighting, comfortable booths, and pleasant decor. Our server was reserved but professional and cordial. He was well-informed on the menu's offerings and answered our questions quickly. Everything we ordered arrived fast! My Osso Buco was decent, but a little pricey for "decent." In all fairness, I'm not typically a veal eater. The meat was tender and juicy. It had a subtle flavor that wasn't bad at all, but it definitely wasn't my favorite. It may be right up someone else's alley. The goat cheese mash and spinach were fantastic. The nachos, enchiladas, salad, etc. were also enjoyable. Overall, the service, ambiance, and food were worth the visit. I'd be open to returning to try additional options on the menu.

The food was very good but nothing to say wow. Had the lechon lunch plate. Great combination. The tortilla española was excellent. The Sandwich cubano was dead on. I think it is overpriced specially since I've been to Miami a few times and you would buy the same food for 1/3 of the price. The flan was very well made. The service was ok. Lost of seating and I assume the Havana Room is for smoking cigars. Overall I do recommend this place and would come back just not as often as I would like.

Sleeper restaurant to be honest. Food is great. Service is decent. Ambiance is very "walk to your neighborhood restaurant" which is one of the things I love. The food is a variety from Cuban, Tex-Méx, seafood, and Tapas. I always order the same thing the Lubina (sea bass in a garlic butter sauce. Vegetables and potatoes). I also ordered a mango margarita this time which was perfection! I tried the plantains and they have the perfect sear! Sharing my sleeper restaurant but don't crowd it up ok?

    Shrimp & lobster paella

Service wasn't welcoming for it being in the Kirby drive area. We ordered the lobster & shrimp paella and it was delish. The Cuban saucey shrimp with rice & beans were not great. Beans tasted old and possibly out of a can.

Great atmosphere, quiet on a Wednesday night! We enjoyed the pork belly, nacho cabana, cuban salad, and the pork cutlet.

We've been visiting the area for about a year for the unfortunate reason of MD Anderson appointments. Rice University Village is close to the Hilton where we stay and there's a free shuttle so we keep trying new places. This was our first trip to this restaurant and I wish I had skipped lunch so that I could've tried a few tapas selections. The wine list, or should I say book, is comprehensive and will please any taste. I can see this as a place to explore the tapas offerings and try new wines with friends or family. It has a real neighborhood feel and family owned vibe, although I don't know if that's true. We were surprised to be served a light dinner salad before the meal. The dressing was delicate and delicious and my only complaint is that I wanted more of it. I had the Solomillo which was fantastic. Butterflied meat is so easy to overcook but mine was done to perfection. It was well grilled and very juicy. The onions were a delicious addition to the meat. I don't know how you're supposed to eat them but I added the white rice to my black beans (served in the little bowl). It was a wonderful bite to me. My husband had the Pollo Salteado which was perfectly grilled chicken served with fragrant green bell peppers and onions. I snuck a little bite and both of us chose well. There was no room for dessert but I was definitely tempted. My advice is to go hungry and they will fix that.

Our server was checking in on us very frequently and she explained the menu to us when we told her we hadn't been before. The manager on duty also had stopped by and introduced herself. They told us up front that tapas would be able to be out quickly with only up to a 10 minute wait but that larger plates could be up to a 45 minute wait. We ordered several tapas and one large plate half order. I don't know much about wine, personally, but the drinks we did get were amazing. The restaurant itself was very pretty as well, lots of natural lighting and then low lighting as the sun went down. The music was low and we were able to hear each other well, apart from one group across the room that would get rowdy but I can't blame them for having a good time. Our food was all delicious and I forgot to take pics of some of them because we devoured them so quickly. Not pictured, we ordered the grilled asparagus and focaccia. I highly recommend all of what we ordered.

It was busier than usual on a Wednesday night because Portugal just played for the World Cup in Houston! Such a special moment and some Portuguese fans were also at the restaurant. We ordered the paella, beef skewers, fish, croquetas de bacalhau, polvo com batatas, and pao com tomato. All of this food was more than enough for four people. All times have been made with reservations as well, however their weekend brunch doesn't seem to be packed. Could definitely just walk in without a reservation. MAD is a solid tapas place, however after coming back from a trip to Spain, I realize the difference of taste and price. I've tried half of the appetizers listed on their current menu. I feel like I've tried other things that are no longer on the menu. I'd definitely recommend the croquetas (3 pcs of creamy goodness) and jamón ibérico (good, but overpriced imo). The pulpo just doesn't taste as good as it does in Spain obviously. Paella Valencia - should try if you've never had paella. Chicken thighs were cooked just right. Pato & apricot - duck recommended to be cooked medium rare. The duck was delicious, but the way the rice was prepared wasn't as good as the paella Valencia. Cochinillo ibérico - more worth it to order this than the appetizer. Scalloped potatoes and scrambled eggs make it a true brunch dish. Basque cheesecake - would recommend this as dessert of choice. It was delicious, light, and fluffy. Spanish churros - nothing like in Spain. They're super thin and definitely too oily. The chocolate ganache dipping sauce was also too oily for my liking. Love the aesthetic of the restaurant. The bathroom must also be seen as well. Definitely a place you can celebrate something special. Good for a date, group of friends or family. I can imagine how it would look at night, probably busy. Definitely want to try their dinner sometime. Park in the parking garage next to the restaurant. It was free every time I've been. :)

Is this the most overrated restaurant in Houston?…read more After being on my "To Try" list for an unacceptable amount of time, I finally made my way over to Nancy's Hustle. I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar with no reservation. I arrived about 30 minutes into open and there was already a wait list. I suggest getting there early or making a reservation if you're not a solo diner. The interior is nice and intimate, with low lighting that doesn't work well for photos but definitely for a cozy dinner. The set up and music reminded me a little bit of 93 Til due to the decor. I started with the duck dumplings and the Nancy cakes. I wasn't expecting it but they offer half orders which is great for a solo diner who wants to try multiple things. Both items were delicious. The dumplings had a nice savory sauce with some texture from the peanuts. These were great but probably my bottom of the list which is saying something. I would only say this because they reminded me a lot of the hot oil wontons from duck and bao so at that price point, you might as well get more. The Nancy cakes were pillowy and savory and made a great vessel for honey butter and roe. I even used a bit to dunk into the leftover dumpling sauce. I suggest eating these as soon as they hit your table. I was trying to savor my bites but the cakes benefit a lot from being nice and hot. It's not the most ground breaking dish in the world but it's done well and I would definitely call it a must order. I could have eating a full order of it alone. My main dishes is where my mind was blown. I went with the roast chicken and half order of the gem lettuce salad and fries. This might be the best roast chicken I've ever had in Houston. Chicken can be a hit or a miss because sometimes, there just isn't much flavor. This was absolutely not the case here. The chicken was juicy and seasoned to the core. It even heated up well as left overs without being dry. The chili sauce on the bottom was flavor intensified and as I swiped my chicken through the pools of sauce, I thought to myself "overrated where?!". The gem salad caught me by surprise. I'm not one to stay away from a salad at a restaurant because they typically do them better than you can make at home . Nancy's Hustle solidified this opinion. The salad was wonderfully briney and savory. The lettuce was crisp and covered in the herby shallot dressing that grabbed my taste buds. Topped with anchovies and pancetta for a nice salty touch. So so good. The fries were the perfect side, crisp and not too potatoey (yes this is a thing). I traded in the aoli for some ketchup because that's just my thing. I concluded this wonderful dining experience with a dessert. Buttermilk ice cream with cornflakes, black berries and honey butter cookie. This dessert was a lesson in balance. Every component was present , sweet, salty, crunchy, cool. Each bite had something new to offer and combined into a perfectly executed dessert. As a cocktail, I tried their tropical drink. I don't remember what it was called but I know I could have drank about 7 of those. This was a great dining experience. I think when things get popular, sometimes we feel the need to be contrarians with our experiences. That wasn't the case for me. Nancy's Hustle has earned its popularity and I'll definitely be back

I might have just found one of my new favorite restaurants in Houston. What a great experience!…read more Recently, a good friend dined here and immediately called me to tell me how great it was. She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

Had a 5:30pm resy, seated outside right away that Saturday evening--it was a full house 45 minutes later. You'd be a fool to skip the dilly bread--a complete fool! The rolls are pillowy and warm. I could eat the butter by the pint. The fingerlinging potato dish is also a must have...pretty small for $19 but tastes like heaven. Spicy! Zaddy was being a bit of a clutz that evening and knocked over my $20 mezcal cocktail, so what does he do? Orders me another one! (That's why he's "zaddy") ....kind of wish he hadn't...so wasn't worth the price tag. Skip it. The chicken dinner was definitely the winner--fresh, juicy breast, crispy skin...don't be cute, you won't finish it unless your party has at least 4 in it! The flies were ruthless! Very annoying! They were acting like the geekers that come bother you just outside your favorite fried chicken joint in south Dallas! Our waitress brought out a table fan so that made the experience a little more tolerable. The chocolate peanut butter pie tasted like a salt rock and the lemon chiffon pie had great flavor but not lemony enough for me. All in all this place is a bit pricey but truly a gem! my third time at BCN :) but this time for an early din din…read more beautiful table setup with tulips we started with the dragonfruit tonic &gin (such a pretty drink, my go-to per usual) we ordered: - Cinco Jotas Ibérico ham and toasted "pa amb tomaca": 10/10 their signature - recommended by our waiter, very unique and light as appetizer - Beet-pistachio-raspberry ravioli salad, kefir cheese, and pistachio oil: v prettily plated - Bomba rice cooked in cuttlefish's black ink, grilled branzino, langoustine, and octopus: MUST-ORDER esp if you are a seafood lover. You get a bit of everything: charred octopus (so perfectly seasoned); grilled brazino with skin, and fresh lightly seated langoustine (u can taste the sweetnes of the meat) for desserts: we got - "Gypsy's arm" sponge cake filled with whipped cream and caramelized custard: my go-to always, very light and fluffy cream to end the night - complimentary 3 flavors sorbets (for special occasion) One can also order coffee to end the meal service was really fast, we were greeted and welcomed by so many staff extremely professional in helping us enjoying our celebration lovely and classic 1920s Hollywood home style valet is $8, but there's street parking also we would lovee to come back soooon~

BCN strikes again. They deserved the Michelin Star and it is definitely a must try Houston…read morerestaurant. Service was impeccable. Think I've said enough. This place is a 9.3/10. The intimacy of the small converted Montrose house extends to the explosion of Spanish flavors. It's a small restaurant that is great for a date, but the 10 top bar is my choice for a great dinner. Starting with the Ibérico jamón, which is an amazing dish I think everyone should try. Salt cured pork leg that is aged for years and imported. I would say that it should definitely come with more of the tomato puree on the side. Overall 9.5/10. Bomba rice was special. It's cooked in cuttlefish ink giving it the distinctive coloring with octopus, mini lobster shrimp langostino and a crispy skin branzino. This was a real treat. Rice almost has a meaty beef broth flavoring with a hint of seafood brine. Branzino was cooked perfectly. No notes 9.8/10. Lamb chop was the best lamb chop I have had in Houston. That's it. 9.8/10. Duck breast was different, definitely worth a try. I don't know if I would order it again, but it's not as tender as I would have liked considering the thin slices. The quince reduction block thing really turns it up a notch, but overall left me wanting compared to the amazing standouts of the other dishes. 8.5/10. Gin and tonics are out of this world. You will not experience a better selection of them in this state. My favorite was the Ginger and lime, but I tried six of them. All great.

Next time I'll do a food review. My fav wine is red wine but his fav wine was the orange wine. It was very refreshing * you get a fake debit card and it collects all the prices for the wines you try . Which was pretty cool !!

I would limit groups to 3-4 people to avoid the crowding around the wine wall. I say that because the place feels more of an intimate experience that should be reserved for solo dates, dates with your significant other, or when you really need to have a heart to heart with someone. When I went, there were two large parties and the number of tables did not compliment the size of the space; it felt too crowded with all those people there. I enjoyed the smooth process of the wine experience but warning, you'll be surprised at how much you spend at the end so come during happy hour! The menu truly complimented the wine selection; my favorite being the shrimp. My only complaint is there is a major room for improvement in the lack of sweet treats. The only option was bread pudding (which I never had) but they were "out" (I arrived 1hr after they opened on a Sunday) I recommend adding chocolate that could be paired with fruit bowl option to the menu.
