Ate dinner here with a work colleague. Nice atmosphere, friendly and efficient servers. Varied menu ... tapas, Cuban, Mexican, seafood, meat, and pork. All tasty. We had the Albindigas (meatballs), squid, and gambas (shrimp) with garlic to start, and then the Sea bass and lamb chops for entrées. Bread tasty too. Not inexpensive, but I thought it was decent value. Fairly empty just before 6 pm on a week night, so did not need our reservation.

What an unexpected nugget we found today! We originally left the hospital heading to Shake Shack, but waiting in traffic turned our attention to this elegant little place, so we pulled in to try it. The parking is super convenient, directly located outside the door. This is a must mention as places in this area are not always easy to park in/find parking. It was mid day after the lunch rush, so that possibly helped us. Tapas, TexMex, Cuban, Latin flare, they have it all! I was super impressed with the decor of this restaurant. Just walking to the doors, you step into a small little Latin world on their pretty patio. Upon entering the doors, there is a wall of crawling ivy that is simply stunning. I love my ivy plants, so this was immediately impressive. We were warmly greeted and seated in a lovely large booth. A Giara (flip-top swing stopper) bottle with water was brought to our table. I thought that was a nice touch. So much more elegant than a regular glass of water. The music playing set the tone for a little Havana scene. You really feel the atmosphere! Our server was excellent. He provided several suggestions on popular items. I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner and my aunt ordered the Tacos al Carbone. We contemplated getting tapas, but decided to keep it with TexMex. Our meal was delicious! Presentation was nice, everything was cooked well, the seasoning was on point, and the portions are a nice size. I was very impressed with our entire experience. I still can't say enough about the restaurant decor. Everything was top-notch and detailed. Even the table settings were detailed and elegant. I love the ambiance. Though we stopped in for a late lunch wearing our capri pants and flip flops, I can see this place also being a great date night spot. It's on the finer side of Spanish restaurants, but still cozy and comfortable to be dressed down. Very impressed! Our total for 2 meals and one glass of wine before tip was $68.00. Highly recommend.

The food was very good but nothing to say wow. Had the lechon lunch plate. Great combination. The tortilla española was excellent. The Sandwich cubano was dead on. I think it is overpriced specially since I've been to Miami a few times and you would buy the same food for 1/3 of the price. The flan was very well made. The service was ok. Lost of seating and I assume the Havana Room is for smoking cigars. Overall I do recommend this place and would come back just not as often as I would like.

I recently visited El Meson on a Sunday evening. We were greeted by the hostess into a welcoming atmosphere...cozy lighting, comfortable booths, and pleasant decor. Our server was reserved but professional and cordial. He was well-informed on the menu's offerings and answered our questions quickly. Everything we ordered arrived fast! My Osso Buco was decent, but a little pricey for "decent." In all fairness, I'm not typically a veal eater. The meat was tender and juicy. It had a subtle flavor that wasn't bad at all, but it definitely wasn't my favorite. It may be right up someone else's alley. The goat cheese mash and spinach were fantastic. The nachos, enchiladas, salad, etc. were also enjoyable. Overall, the service, ambiance, and food were worth the visit. I'd be open to returning to try additional options on the menu.

Service wasn't welcoming for it being in the Kirby drive area. We ordered the lobster & shrimp paella and it was delish. The Cuban saucey shrimp with rice & beans were not great. Beans tasted old and possibly out of a can.

Sleeper restaurant to be honest. Food is great. Service is decent. Ambiance is very "walk to your neighborhood restaurant" which is one of the things I love. The food is a variety from Cuban, Tex-Méx, seafood, and Tapas. I always order the same thing the Lubina (sea bass in a garlic butter sauce. Vegetables and potatoes). I also ordered a mango margarita this time which was perfection! I tried the plantains and they have the perfect sear! Sharing my sleeper restaurant but don't crowd it up ok?

Great atmosphere, quiet on a Wednesday night! We enjoyed the pork belly, nacho cabana, cuban salad, and the pork cutlet.

We've been visiting the area for about a year for the unfortunate reason of MD Anderson appointments. Rice University Village is close to the Hilton where we stay and there's a free shuttle so we keep trying new places. This was our first trip to this restaurant and I wish I had skipped lunch so that I could've tried a few tapas selections. The wine list, or should I say book, is comprehensive and will please any taste. I can see this as a place to explore the tapas offerings and try new wines with friends or family. It has a real neighborhood feel and family owned vibe, although I don't know if that's true. We were surprised to be served a light dinner salad before the meal. The dressing was delicate and delicious and my only complaint is that I wanted more of it. I had the Solomillo which was fantastic. Butterflied meat is so easy to overcook but mine was done to perfection. It was well grilled and very juicy. The onions were a delicious addition to the meat. I don't know how you're supposed to eat them but I added the white rice to my black beans (served in the little bowl). It was a wonderful bite to me. My husband had the Pollo Salteado which was perfectly grilled chicken served with fragrant green bell peppers and onions. I snuck a little bite and both of us chose well. There was no room for dessert but I was definitely tempted. My advice is to go hungry and they will fix that.

Parking is pretty easy, there's a big garage that is pretty cheap, or you can park for free in the neighborhood. They have patio seating available if you wish to sit outdoors. This is a Spanish tapas restaurant, and their menu is very big it was pretty overwhelming to look at. Luckily for us, Richard locked in and ordered everything for us. If we were able to come a bit earlier we could've ordered during happy hour which has a lot of good discounts on their tapas What we ordered: - patatas bravas with chorizo - by far our fav dish of the night. The sauce is so so good. It's a must get, but I would pass on the chorizo next time - albondigas morunas - I enjoyed the lamb meatballs with cinnamon onions, couscous was good too - Plato de jamon Serrano - good app, love how you can customize it any way with the cheese, fruits, and olives - gambas al ajillo - shrimp in lemon garlic olive oil and red chili peppers, solid but not anything life changing or a must order - calamares a la plancha - grilled squid with roasted garlic and olive oil, very citrusy and unique - pemientos de padron - tasted just like air, really is just a Carrie for the lemon aioli which was really good - pescaditos Fritos - same as the pimento peppers. Came with harissa aioli and spicy tomato - sangria - we got some kind of jumbo size for a good deal. Good for sharing

Our server Ray was really kind and explained the menu concept to us and was so helpful in pointing out some delicious orders. We decided on several happy hour offerings - the chicken and beef empanadas, croquetas de patatas, bombas de queso, toasta de lengua, and a full order of the raba de toro (oxtail). For drinks I had the happy hour house sangria and piña loca. The sangria came out first and was so refreshing and with such a lovely aroma and spice. The piña loca was more of a miss for me - it tasted a bit like pineapple candy and was overly sweet. We had all our happy hour appetizers next. I was a bit surprised at how small the portion sizes are - keep in mind that the happy hour orders are half of the tapas plates, which are already small and designed for sampling. We split the empanadas and I adored the beef cheek empanada - the meat was seasoned so nicely and was deliciously soft. I also really liked the flavoring of the toasta de lengua. The croquetas and bombas had a lovely crunch to them. The oxtail came out next and the meat really was coming off the bone - so deliciously soft and well seasoned. It came with a side of bread and dipping oil that was a fantastic complement. We were amazed at how fast the service was. The staff were quick to fill up our waters and Ray checked on us the whole time we were there and took trouble to make sure we had a great experience. It's quite spacious with both an indoor area and relaxed outdoor patio. Overall this was a really tasty restaurant and I'm glad we got to try it. I would just keep in mind on your visit that it is on the pricey side, though the happy hour lets you get a nice sampling of their extensive menu. Till next time!

Our friend booked a reservation and was able to add a fourth person without any issues. It's on Westheimer where all the restaurants and shops are, so it's pretty busy. You can either park on the street or in the neighborhood behind. There's bar, small table and booth seating available. One of our friends who arrived early got to switch us to a booth since we'd have a few plates to share for the four of us. My friend and I shared the NA red sangria. I liked that there was a NA option for that, and you can choose either red or white. We ordered a pitcher since we were sharing. It was delicious and refreshing. I think I had about 3 wine glasses of it. Our group shared the red fish à la plancha, patatas bravas, spinach frittata, olive oil pancakes and bacon-wrapped dates. Some of the dishes were bigger than others. Tapas is meant to be small plates, and they were, but it's a little overpriced. For example, the red fish was $15.50 for maybe 2 oz of fish. The stack of olive oil pancakes were small and thin for $8.50. If you're sharing, it's not that much food. I was going to order another personal stack of olive oil pancakes because that cinnamon butter was so good! I decided not to after I let all of what we ordered and drank settle for a bit after. The valdeon whipped blue cheese under the bacon-wrapped dates didn't taste very good and seemed grainy to me. It was my least favorite. The standouts for me were the olive oil pancakes, spinach frittata that was actually loaded with more veggies and bell peppers and the patatas bravas which was piled with potatoes topped with mayo that melted down and looked almost like melted cheese on top. It's a fun place for friends to gather or a cute date spot. You may or may not be hungry after depending what you order. There are larger plates/entrees like paella and branzino to share.

As for the food, the lamb chop was delicious, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The suckling pig was crispy, flavorful with a hint of cherry which helped enhanced the flavor, and cooked to perfection. The two salads was fresh, refreshing, and creative. The Iberian Ham and croquetas looked simple but it was actually delicious and not too salty with the right amount given. The Spanish octopus was delicious but my fiancé and I thought the potatoes could've been replaced with something else as the starchiness hinders the octopus. The branzino dish was delicious, soft, hot, fresh, and crispy. Honestly, would order this again as fish can be a hit or miss, and this was a hit without a doubt. We ended up with two desserts since we actually came here for our anniversary. The sorbet was very refreshing with all the unique citrus flavors. The chocolate cake and fillo dough was very soft and had the great amount of sweetness. Overall, I had a great experience. I would like to preface, this isn't a cheap quick dinner restaurant but I highly recommend coming at least once. We found it on the Michelin guide. I love the inside of the restaurant, the layout is fun and intimate. *grilled oysters were good. The flavor from the n'duja with the bits of pecan was something I would never think to pair. Great start! * elk tartare was surprisingly amazing. I always find tartare to be a tough dish to make outstanding and with elk I was hesitant to try but happy we tried it. The plate was cleaned by the time we finished. The cracker was light and paired well with it. * maitake mushrooms were so good that we had to split it evenly so no one got an unfair amount lol The sauce is like a coffee/caramel/chocolately savory sauce. We love elevated tapas style restaurants so we had to see what it was all about! Unfortunately, the food just didn't wow me at all. It was fine, but fine doesn't cut it for this price. Food: - Duck Liver: 6/10 I LOVE pate so this one was extra disappointing. They pureed it so much that it lost all texture and was like a butter. If that was the only thing off, it would be fine. But the other flavors in there just didn't work for me. The sweetness and oiliness that they added were too overpowering that I could hardly taste the liver itself. The bread was great though. - Elk Tartare: 10/10 I'm not the biggest fan of tartare but this was the best tartare I've ever had and the best dish of the night! The sunflower cracker was amazing; it gave a nice toasty nutty flavor that contrasted with the yuzu underneath. I love all the different textures going on in this dish, which is why I like it better than other tartares which tend to be only chewy/slimy/wet. - Maitake: 8/10 Cooked really nicely. Perfectly crisp and flaky. Just a little too sour for me. - Okra: 7/10 The Gouda sauce was interesting but the okra itself was nothing special. It was nicely roasted and charred. - Pork chop: 6/10 As the main dish of the night, this was quite disappointing. No interesting flavors whatsoever. You can't really taste the chamomile dusting unless you lick it directly. The jowl that they spread on top didn't taste like anything distinct. In fact, I didn't like the texture of it because it was crunchy in a way that felt like I was crunching through little bits of tiny bone... - Basque cheesecake: 9/10 The dessert rounded out the evening nicely. Solid cheesecake. No complaints. Service: Honestly too "attentive" to the point that it was annoying and disruptive. They would interrupt us every 10 minutes it felt like. And the food came out pretty slowly.

I wish I had more even at this moment. Everyone is always so welcoming and helpful here....Everyone but the rude ass valet drivers outside. I mentioned to my dining mate who arrived before me how rude the guys were. He told me that he got into it with them also and another person almost got into a fight with them Having a nasty attitude and expecting a tip for a free service is crazy to me. So it's wasn't just me they just have attitude. They also had attitude when I went before for drinks.

My husband and I came here for a much-needed date night. We've been to their sister restaurant a…read morefew times before and is our first time here at their upscale one. We had a wonderful waiter and gave us a lot of recommendation. But the treatment kind of fell off towards the end when he was held up by a huge party for a good while to the point where we changed our mind about desserts and after dinner drinks and had to go. The cocktail "come and take it" was balance and flavorful. The crab samosa is a hit. It is crammed with crab stuffing. It is amazing and you get two different kind of dipping sauce with it, Tartar and butter. This was the first that any restaurant has ever done for us, but they actually split our soup in half for us so what's pictured is the half the soup. The duck pad Thai was amazing!!! I wish I had that instead. I had the Caribbean braised oxtail. I wasn't a big fan. I felt like I was tasting more of the sauce and carbs. I asked for the mango and spices on the side. The mango was a nice plate cleanser in between bites. The ambience was really nice , definitely upscale compared to their Travis's Carr location and something that you should dress up for. This is good for a nice formal celebration dinner or date dates. Or fancy Bestie night. There is complementary valet at the front. They have a sign that says do not park across the street.
