I came here upon a recommendation from a friend (Hi, Steve!). After having tried "Indy's best voted Mexican restaurant", Lindo, I'm confused as to how El Meson didn't accomplish top honors. Coming from NYC myself and indulging in Mexican-Harlems finest food, El Meson has the most delicious food that reminds me of Spanish Harlem. The customer service is top notch and the food is the best Mexican food I've had in Indy (my tacos had so much flavor; the birria is good as well). And of course you can't forget about the margaritas! Try the flight and you won't regret it. El Meson deserves all the respect it deserves and has the quality food & service to back it up. Did a carry out of 2 dinners . Came out in 10 minutes. Fresh salad with grilled chicken for wifey. I had beef enchilada and a beef burrito with beans and rice. Good fresh favorites. Ate every bite. Wanted to try some local Mexican eats, and this place ended up being worth the try. We had plates of steak picado for our respective dishes - dinner plate with rice and beans for me and steak chilaquiles for the spouse, mole-style. The cheese enchilada I also ordered could have been more hot and fresh when it was served, but it was basically a layer on my entree. In a vacuum, this place seems like it can easily be one of the better Mexican establishments to eat at. It doesn't break the bank, and the aim of their menu is to feed you with generous portions. I've had better. But it was fairly apparent that if you're local or semi local, El Meson would likely make a regular out of you - escpially if you want to dine in for some Mexican eats. A good Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. There are a bunch of them around and all have been pretty good. The interior is typical bright colors and a row of TVs down the middle. The service was good. She was friendly and stopped by a few times to take care of us. The food came out fast and was very hot. It tasted really good. I got chicken chimichangas. They were smothered in cheese and came with beans and rice as well as a salad with sour cream. My wife got cheese enchilada and a bean burrito from the Ala carte menu. Hers was a little salty. I visited here last week with my mother in law for lunch. There is a parking lot directly outside of the building. The staff were quick to take our order along with bringing chips and salsa. The ambiance was fairly typically Tex mex style however some of the furniture was a bit torn or worn in. I was looking for a quick Mexican restaurant on my way home from Columbus, IN. I had to stop at Walmart on Emerson and El Meson was only a few blocks away. This was my first visit to El Meson and it was way beyond the peak lunch hour. I was greeted by a nice server and seated immediately in a booth as requested. Four-top tables with banquette seating was also a seating option. The interior walls have large, bold, colorful landscape scenes or a graphic floral scene and the booths have various colorful, Mexican landscapes on the booth backs. I briefly scanned the full menu, which appeared to have all the standard entrees, and went directly to the lunch menu. The lunch menu is served Monday through Saturday from 11:00 - 3:00 p.m. I selected the Speedy Gonzales with one crisp taco, one enchilada both with pork and option of rice or refried beans. If you prefer to substitute chicken for ground beef there is a $1.00 upcharge or $1.99 for grilled steak, shredded beef or pork. Charro beans can be substituted for a small fee off $.99 upcharge. The taco shell was fresh and crisp and both the taco and enchilada was filled with a nice amount of pork. The pork had a touch of sweetness as well as the enchilada sauce. The refried beans were creamy and smothered in cheese. I enjoyed my lunch entree and would order again. My server was attentive without being offensive and always close by. Many times when it isn't peak hours servers get relaxed and provide horrible service which wasn't the case with Eduardo. If I was in the neighborhood again, I wouldn't object to visiting again. read more

I cannot believe the amount of meat in my fajitas! Most meat I've ever gotten and on special the month of September for $7.99?! Score! This is the newest location of El Meson in Franklin Township. We stopped in on a busy Friday night. There were only two unoccupied tables in the whole place. When I first walked in the noticed the way-too-bright lights and how chilly it was. We were seated right away and given light and crispy tortilla chips with perfect salsa that had just the right hint of spicey. We decided on the fajitas for our meal and when they came I was surprised at how huge they were. The fajitas are really flavorful for a chain Mexican place and the portions are BIG. My date ordered the Carlos Tacos which are a version of street tacos. They are really good! I give this place two thumbs up. Will definitely go back. read more

A friend of mine was in town for his kids soccer game and we decided to meet up from lunch. Not a lot in this area except chain restaurants so we chose this Mexican joint. I had a big boy Micheleda and huge quesadilla, my wife had a chimichanga, my fiend had a burrito. We got chicken. We have eaten here many times and been served both excellent meals and terrible meals. We had told ourselves that we would give them one more try and if they served us anything less than the fresh, hot, appetizing meals that made us fans to begin with, we wouldn't ever come back. My daughter and I both ordered the Arroz con Pollo dinner specials at $6.99 each and my husband ordered the El Pollo Loco. All came out hot, fresh appetizing and delicious! We were very pleased with the quality of our dinners. As a side note, the entire time we were jere, we observed staff cleaning every nook and cranny and the restaurant had the feel of newness in terms of cleanliness. We were very happy that they took so much care to keep everything super clean. As far as chain Mexican restaurants go, I really like eating here and we'll continue to come back. This was my first time at El Meson, but I had heard from friends that the restaurant is a reliable favorite. Being a Friday night, there was a little bit of a wait, but that's to be expected. Once we were seated, our server was super friendly and more than happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. The food is traditional Mexican fare. I had a torta and one of their signature margaritas, both of which were excellent. This place would have 5/5 stars if my presence had been acknowledged during my first 10 minutes standing in the doorway, waiting to be seated. Anything except the worst reviews are true. The wait staff (especially our server, Eduardo) was extraordinarily rude from the beginning, and the experience was downhill from there. When the food (finally) arrived, there was hair in one of our party's plates! The rest of the food wasn't much better. Absolutely disgusting. When mention was made to the staff, our party was completely ignored and still charged full price for food that couldn't be consumed. Knocked on door they came to answer after many attempts and wouldn't open the door to me. I explained I placed and order they acted like they didn't know anything and walked away. I had been dying to try it for months so when I finally got the chance, my daughter and I went today. We were very excited to try it and it did not disappoint. They had big portions, enough so we could split it between two meals today, and it was perfect. Cooked well, spiced perfectly, and the waiter was attentive. This is a good thing cause I enjoy the bright colored furniture and paintings and tvs every where. It's small though. The food was good , hot and fresh and generous portions. I tried it for dinner a recent Friday night based on the Yelp reviews and I wasn't disappointed. It's brightly decorated and nicely laid out. Service was prompt and attentive. I chose the arroz con pollo (grilled chicken with cheese sauce and Mexican rice). Both were very tasty and a huge portion so I got lunch the next day out of it, too. I would give the dine-in experience a 3/5, carry out a 1/5, and the food a 2/5. They will mess your carry out order up once when they prepare it for you, and then a second time after you ask them to fix it. Disappointing service, I ordered 3 chicken tacos recently, and received 3 steak tacos. I asked them to fix the mistake, and took their word for it that they had corrected their mistake. After I got home I saw that I was given two chicken tacos instead (still charged for three). The delivery person went back to check. She texted me the person working at the store yelled at her for asking and told me I'd have to call DoorDash. That's ridiculous. This is by far the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been too. My food was extremely dry and I brought to the attention to the waiter he began talking about me in Spanish and pointing. He the not once, but twice used his hands and ate food off of my plate. He then began to argue with me and tell me that it wasn't dry. I kindly asked to speak to the manager and he still charged me food I did not/could not eat.
