When I mentioned to one of the bakers that I am diabetic and unable to eat regular bread, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they offer pastries made with almond flour, coconut flour, and monk fruit sweetener. I truly appreciate businesses that consider customers with dietary restrictions. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and a must visit! We happened upon this bakery on our way back to the Tecate boarder (12 min walk to the boarder). So glad we found it! The moment you walk in, you catch all of the yummy aromas of the bakery. You grab a tray and tongs and get to browse and choose all kinds of beautiful Mexican baked goods. Knowing that this bakery is a crowd favorite, it pains me to say don't waste your time or money here. Though everything here looks beautiful the flavors don't match up. This is some of the most dry and flavorless pastries I've ever had. It was painfully easy to spend US$60 here for about $6 dollars worth of flavor. I'm still amazed that they ruined a simple cream filled pie and anything that was supposed to be chocolate flavored was sadly void of even a hint of a chocolate flavor. Given the name "The Best Bread in Tecate" along with the higher than normal prices - I was expecting some incredible pastries and breads, but that wasn't the case here. Love, love, love the smell of fresh Mexican panaderías. This place is a staple in Tecate and now I understand why. They have so many types of pan dulce, I was a bit overwhelmed having to narrow my choices....there are Racks and aisles full of them! You will definitely get more than one bread. There is always a line, but it moves quickly thanks to the barrage of registers to help customers check out. The racks of pan dulce are literally taller than I am. (I'm 5' 5"!) As you enter the shop, grab a tray (or two), tongs & wander the aisles selecting delectable delights from the stacks & stacks of goodies available daily. Breads offered include uncut loaves, tortillas, buns, rolls, bolillo, torta, French & Greek bread & much, much more. Ample parking in the lot out back. Now there is a milk option in the coffee section besides the powdered creamer, so that's a plus, and another plus the selection seems bugger with an expanded section of whole wheat breads. A minus is every single table outside being so dirty and cashier with not the greatest customer service. Breads are pretty to look and great selection to try, most of the items are properly labeled and priced. As far as the taste, since most people shouldn't buy bread just to look at, they tend to be stale tasting and overly sweet. Tried: coyota de cajeta (too sweet), cochito (too sweet), cochito integral (this one was good if you love cloves (a tad overdone on the clove), concha integral (too sweet and over cinnamon-ed), trenza de trigo (stale), barra de piña integral (stale). Given their hours I would still try them for their savory breads next time (hopefully they aren't oversalted) read more

An honest review from an American View. ! Major Health Issue ! With all bread sitting on open shelves as a grocery store style isle setup. As the bakery is totally packed like a Super Bowl Stadium or a Mosh Pit. It's one of only a couple hang out places so it makes sense why people go here because this town has nothing else. The bread is alright some great and some not so much but kinda dry on many I tried which I tired many types. Paying easy takes card, pesos and USD. Sadly, growing demand and fame have forced them to sacrifice some of that quality for quantity. If you're looking for real traditional Mexican bread, there are other local options; if you're feeling adventurous, try El Hongo or La Rumorosa bakeries on the road to Mexicali. I just don't get it. I've known about this place for over 30 years and have always found it quite disgusting. The bread is set out in racks that go from head to knee level. Almost nothing is covered. The place is always super busy, so children grabbing, people talking, sneezing, and coughing, all over the open, uncovered goodies. If you stop looking at the bread for a while and look around, you will walk out. The ingredients come across a cheap, industrial flours, sugars, colors. This place is running on touristy hype. I'm sorry, but most shoppers in there are grossly overweight, so not a place for picky eaters. Tecate now has much better bakeries, including wholegrain and vegan options. read more

This really is the best pan dulce in my second home, Tecatito! Be ready to spend some $$ but well worth it. The variety is AMAZING and you can find everything from conchas to puerquitos to whole wheat pan. This is my stop as soon I get to TKT to take to my dad and my last stop to bring some back to my permanent home for my mother and mother-in-law. As you can see, the whole family gets pan from here. Oh my! This place is heaven on earth. My Spanish isn't good enough to know exactly what all the hundreds of choices are, but fear not, you cannot go wrong! I loved this place! You get in line Disneyland style and as you twist and turn through the shop, you pass tray after tray of delicious pan dulce. So many varieties! And all of them were delicious. It wasn't exactly cheap but you get what you pay for I suppose. They also give you free coffee, which is awesome, but I thought it was a little weak. Can't be too picky about that though.
