When I arrived around 9 I told myself I was only going to stay until before midnight - well joke's on me because the music got me and I was there until 2 am. Signs of a good DJ, good Vibes, and a good night. The cocktail menu has classics, and while I started with a gimlet I switched to gin and tonic for most of the night. There is also an outside patio if you want to chill and not be in the dance floor. As someone who loves the dance floor, I never went outside, but my friends told me it was cute. While I looooove a good night out dancing to perreo, these old school vibes keep our OG Miami and Latin culture alive, and that's something I loved about my visit to Hoy Como Ayer. There were very few tables occupied and only one person at the bar. My usual spot was available, so I sat at the bar without hesitation. Greta welcomed me and handed me a menu. I noticed they have a new menu with a very nice design. As usual, they also offer daily specials. To my disappointment, when I tried to order one of the specials the Branzino Mediterraneo & Risotto Greta told me it had already run out. I ended up ordering the Steamed Mussels instead. For my drink, I was undecided between wine or beer, and she recommended the Inedit Damm. The beer was very good you could clearly taste many of the ingredients. The mussels arrived with bread and butter, plus some tasty house made potato chips on the side. The texture and overall flavor were phenomenal you could see and taste the pieces of pancetta and the thin slices of garlic. I ended up using a spoon to enjoy every bit of the broth and ingredients. I also noticed that both the bar and tables have purse hooks, which is a very practical and thoughtful detail. I finished with a glass of white wine and headed home until next time.

But that should be MY CHOICE, not the restaurant's, and the fact that they tried to charge the additional tip as a regular tip and calculated it AFTER TIP AND TAX ensures I'm not going back. I didn't care much for the guava sauce, though you may like it if you're into that sort of thing, but the garlic sauce was very nice. We also shared a parrilla personal. We got sat down quick, took about 10 minutes to get our order taken. Got some beers and a hookah. Hookah is $20 but to be honest I've had better hookah and last longer for that price...so not really impressed. The guy waiter that's passing by, didn't even check or see that our coal had turned off already, I believe he was giving complementary chips to the tables too and he just looked at ours and kept walking and gave the chips to another table. So regarding the hookah, we unwrapped the foil because we felt it lasted way to little and of course there was still a good amount that was good to be smoked, so we asked the waitress if they charged for giving us another coal since ours burned out and I believe I heard her say it was $3 for that (including the tobacco) and I told her there was a good amount we still had left. Luckily they put a new coal for us. Most likely because the guy going around didn't pay attention to our table and hookah. Along with the waitress, she barely passed by. If she came by it was maybe like 2-3 times compared to how the other tables were served. Beers were $5 (Corona). So by the time we got our check they charge a service fee of 18%, so that's their tip that's included and they still ask for a tip at the end when paying. I'll pass by again and see if service is a little more attentive but if not won't go back and it's not a big deal.
