Classic Miami flavor and still the best place for pork and lechón. Back when I lived in Miami, there were only two El Palacio de los Jugos locations. Now they've expanded and while this was my first time at the Flagami spot, it didn't matter one bit. The same delicious food, the same friendly, fast service, and that unmistakable Miami vibe were all still there. I came for what I've always loved: the fried pork chunks (nobody does them better) and the lechón, both full of local flavor and perfectly prepared. Though they offer pastries too, I opted to swing by a bakery separately but it's great to have that variety available in one place. I was in and out very quickly, which is always appreciated when you're just trying to grab something good. The staff behind the counter were just as nice and efficient as I remembered from years ago. If you're in town and craving authentic, hearty Miami eats from meats to juices to fresh fruits this is definitely the place. The only hard part? Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Inside is similar to a market where one can shop for fresh produce, Cuban pastries, ice cream, deli items, hot case foods and sandwiches made to order. Language was a bit of a barrier so I was thankful that the bartender from a previous restaurant had written down the name of Cuban sandwiches for me, Media Noche (standard) and Media Noche + Croqueta Preparada (standard + ham croquette). Yes yes and yes. This is the Miami I was looking for! I don't know if this is the exact location I visited at there are multiple locations but this place is a gem! I came here on my most recent visit to Miami and wanted to stop by because I saw they had cooked food and juices from the window. I wasn't sure if it was a grocery store or market but it's more of a produce market with baked goods and hot food. This is a predominantly Spanish speaking market as most business in this area of Miami are. Most of the employees spoke minimal English and thank goodness for my few years of Spanish in middle and high school I was able to order what I wanted lol. They have an abundance of tropical fruit, mangoes, coconut, papaya, limes, everything looked fresh like it hadn't been frozen. The pastries especially the pastels are amazing. I've always grabbed the guava con queso pastel from places like Versailles, but never again. The ones here were out of this world, buttery and flaky in every bite! They also have fresh pure fruit juices which is so nice. And the hot food section is amazing. They have about 4 different stations wi the chicken, beef, pork and seafood all with an array of sides to choose from. This is a very causal, local place. No reservations nothing fancy, just a bit of courage to practice some Spanish and patience lol but so worth it. Visiting Miami from New York I stayed at an air Air Bn'B nearby. Once I saw the restaurant, I knew I wanted to try out the authentic Cuban cuisine in the morning. Unfortunately I didn't have much of an appetite, but I tried to get as much as I could in the moment so I decided to get a guanabana/soursop/korosol juice, espresso, and a piece of fried cheese (it was actually a thick chunk SOOOOO GOOD) Everything tasted so amazing. What a treat this place is, and what an assortment of foods to choose from. I love Cuban food, and this hit the spot. It wasn't exceptional, but it was worthy of sharing the recommendation. I had the whole fish (Snapper): While it was seasoned well, it was dry and needed some sort of sauce (hot sauce, if that's your thing). For me, that ruined the potential of what the overall taste of the fish could, and should be. The chicharron's, were delicious. They were fried to perfection and the meat attached, was moist and full of flavor. I did notice someone said they were overly salted, my pieces did not have salt on them. It may have been due to them being fresh, and possibly the salt had not been added yet. The Cuban Paella was my favorite! It was full of flavor, seafood, and hit every taste bud waiting for full satisfaction. If I lived in the area, I definitely would visit often. I've been to one of their other locations and I instantly fell in love. I knew I had found my go to place every time I come down to visit Miami. The people here are the friendliest and they make sure you don't leave satisfied. My go to order is a large plate of Ropa Vieja and Arroz Congri with a side of fried plantains. They serve you a huge portion that can honestly be shared with two people. The roja vieja is so tender and flavorful. I absolutely love the rice here. If only I can figure out how to make this at home, but I have failed miserably. And then some sweet plantains to go along with this very filling meal. Went here on the recommendation of a friend. Was on a long layover back to LA from South America and decided to stop by for some lunch. Very old school feel here. Not too large inside, but plenty of outdoor eating space on the outside (there's a few indoor tables in the back of the store). Hot food is served here on display cafeteria style, or you can order from their Cuban style menu. Really wanted to try their chicharron pieces and Cuban sandwich. The chicharron was huge. Very juicy and decadent, but very salty in my opinion. Too much I think. I was really disappointed with the sandwiches, unfortunately. It didn't seem like they cooked it long enough as the cheese was barely melted and the bread wasn't even crisped. Inside, just average tasting pork pieces. The Agua de mango was superb, however. We came here straight from the airport and ordered chicharrones, ropa vieja with maduros and moro, a bacalao croquette, a chicken empanada, a ham and cheese empanada, a tamal, and a grapefruit juice. Everything was outstanding -- the chicharrones were the headliner and I can't imagine coming here and not getting them, but both empanadas were also really amazing (better than I had expected, honestly) and I'd love to try more croquettes. This is the location on the Flagler street. The one I saw on many television programs and internet. When I got there, it was around 11 am. They were just ready to serve lunch. It was amazing to have so many dishes to choose from. All the Cuban traditional dishes were available including many seafood dishes that I don't see in other restaurants. I also ordered the guava juice without ice. It was so refreshing and not overly sweet. Definitely will stop by this restaurant every time I visit Miami from now on. read more

The good: There are so many selections here. You can get fresh juice squeezed from fruits that you do not normally have grown in North America. They have milk shakes made with fresh fruits. They have a corn section that even has fresh popped popcorn. They have all meats prepared multiple types of ways that even included lamb and ox tails. The seafood section is a section by itself, the other meats take up about 4 other sections. They even have a fresh sandwich section tied with the fresh juice section. You will also see traditional pastries in that section, which includes guava and cheese pastries. I watched many people order food and realized 2 things. The first thing I noticed was they truly pack on the food, so the portion sizes are plenty. The second thing I noticed that everyone here prefers to speak Spanish and have a limited English vocabulary. They can get your order to you without having to speak to you! The bad: With a few exceptions, none of the meat prices are posted. My frugal meter didn't know what to do! The ugly: With only covered outdoor seating available, I did see some birds get into the food areas. That's a serious risk for fecal matter food contamination. I ordered a plate special, which is one rice, one plantain and one meat for essentially $12. I opted to add another protein in your mix for another $8. I considered just getting two plate specials but they pack so much rice on the plate to whereas I just didn't want to be responsible for eating that much rice. I opted for sweet plantains, chicken and pork rice, with shredded pork as my protien. My second protein was essentially shredded beef. The plantains helped balance the salt content from all the other elements of my dish. Pork was just okay and the rice was just okay. The beef had the most flavor. I tried a piece of their chicharrones, and it was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and lightly flavored for an enjoyable experience. There was so much of a variety of fresh fruits and cooked items to whereas I forgot to order a fresh juice! I may go back before I leave Miami to try more stuff.
