I was super hungry in the morning and didn't feel like cooking breakfast the little woke up sick. I decide to order the perico arepa. Living in Miami since 2015 I've had my share of arepas. It arrived about 30 minutes later. The arepa was fairly large but I was disappointed as it wasn't hot, and actually the eggs had put out a lot of liquid and it split in half and was soggy. I also think the eggs weren't salted well. The saving grace was the picante salsa, I wasn't too impressed with the ajo salsa. You can't get more Venezuelan than the European corner. For those of you wondering, the first thin you have to know about Venezuela is that most good bakeries, delis and restaurants are owned by either a Spaniards, Portugueses or Italians, hence the European Corner's name is actually the most appropriate you can get for this. It's been along time since I came last... but it is as great as I remember. The cachitos de jamón (ham pastries) are perfect. Unlike other places where they may look prettier but taste meh, here they look a bit less... photoshopped, while in taste, texture and content they actually are perfect. The coffee, at least the "marrón grande" taste just like they did back in Caracas. The desayuno criollo, to my taste, a bit low on salt (but you can always ad salt, you can never subtract it, so I'm not complaining. The perico (eggs) was nice, the shredded beef too, but the star (and those who know me know I'm not usually a bean guy) were the caraotas negras (black beans). The arepas are nice, though they look a bit burnt and uneven, just like home-made food should be. Well, the hot sauce is as good as it gets, and the garlic sauce is pure deliciousness. I decided to give the golfeados a second chance. If you don't know what a golfeado is, think of something that resembles a cinnamon roll, and you put a square of cheese, at ambiance temperature, over the hot/warm roll. The last time I came, I ordered the golfeados to go, so maybe that was why they were a bit stiff. This time I got them to dine in. While the golfeado itself was good, not great. But it is kind of an insult to melt the cheese on the roll. YOU DO NOT DO THAT! ¡Eso no se hace! I'm not taking a picture of that traumatic event. But they really did melt the cheese. Anyway, that's the star I subtracted, everything else can't get better. I love the place, they care to give you actual Venezuelan food, it may not look "magazine cover" perfect, but the taste and texture is always how it should be. read more

I love exploring different cuisines, but as I don't speak Spanish, it can be quite a barrier in South Florida. When I walked into this little cafe, I saw an old lady sitting at the counter, and I was thinking, uh oh... but to my surprise, her English is quite good. Then a younger woman took over, and with much pride explained in detail their menu as well as the items in their case. She is super friendly and efficient throughout our visit. We tried the cachapa with cheese, and the arepa with huevos pericos (scrambled egg with tomato and scallion), along with a creamy and strong cafe con leche. The food comes out fast and fresh. The arepa was almost too hot to hold! It's my first time trying cachapa, and I love the corn cake, slight sweet with bites of corn in it, and the creamy cheese which is somewhat like burrata. Can someone please explain why this place is called European Corner? Seriously, please message me. We wandered into this casual Venezuelan joint located across the street from the Winn Dixie after grocery shopping. Luckily after a couple minutes a mom with a couple of kids showed up so we weren't the only ones dining here. I asked for a cachapa (several yelpers mentioned these) but the sweet lady didn't quite understand me and said the didn't have them. She also said that there were no tequeños. They either ran out or don't serve them on the weekends. I didn't quite understand the lady. I tried some corn cake filled with pork and it was delicious. Rich, meaty comfort food with sweetness from the corn. It might have been a cachapa after all. I still don't know. Service was very friendly & accommodating considering I had no idea what most things were on the menu. They have a small parking lot in front of the small shop. BEST TEQUEÑO IN MIAMI That's it... after trying 20 or so places in my 4 years in Miami, I realized that one of the first Venezuelan bakery I've had in Miami still serve the best tequeños - the rest are crap by comparison (sorry to say). It's all in the dough, and the European Corner is the one that makes it the best all around - from Kendall to Sunny Isles, and it's even better than those in Doral. The bubbly dough when fried is just right, and the cheese is as authentic as it could be. I'll start buying frozen tequeños here to make at home, and I'll continue to buy tequeños here when I am in the area. But yes, they're so good that I usually forget to ask for the sauces that usually accompany the tequeños at other locations. Actually, I don't even know if they have the sauces (but I would think they do if they have arepas). I'm happy enough without them. And since the last time I came here (it's been too long, unfortunately), they have added a lot more things. I saw more variety of cheeses, including some from the Venezuelan state of Zulia (where Maracaibo is located) which is very rare. They have the best assortment of Venezuelan cheeses I've seen. And additionally, complaining about the disappearance of Fama de America at Doral's Sedano's ever since Chavez (the idiot, I'll profess publicly) nationalized the coffee industry? Well, look no further - they are available here - AND with two other rare but good Venezuelan coffee brands (San Domingo and San Antonio). They're pricey though, but when there's nobody around offering the same, you have to overlook it. Their bakery is still delicious. I had their small pan dulce which is a sweet bread with anise and sugar topping and it reminded me of the trip I made to Colonia Tovar, a German colony, from Caracas where I was just munching these away. This is one of the first places I discovered when I moved to Miami from Venezuela almost 6 years ago, and man, what a discovery it was. This place has THE BEST cachito, period. Notice I did not say "in Miami", and that was intentional, this is hands down the best cachito I've had, ever, anywhere. That is one mean cachito, so please do yourself a favor and try it. The staff is very corteous and most likely, the owner will be the one taking your order. They also have lots of other stuff, like arepas, empanadas, tequeños, etc., but I've only found them to be average. Here you will find a lot of Venezuelan products, like coffee, chocolates, soft drinks, juices, etc., but you might pay dearly for those, as they are not cheap. We started off with (hands down) the best tequeno ive ever had and a cachito which is a tiny loaf of bread stuffed with ham. We also split the desayuno criollo that was plenty enough for both of us and was made up shredded marinated beef, a fresh arepa with delicious cheese, scrambled eggs, and black beans. Wow wow wow. Ok no, I was on my way to the south Miami hospital to visit my coworker. I needed a place to have a quick breakfast and found this place which had good reviews. It's a hole in the wall. I was so disappointed. I did walk in and was immediately asked what I wanted and ordered. Then someone else came to ask me what I was ordering and told that other person. So two people, yet when my empanada came and I took a bite out of it, it was chicken when I ordered beef. The pandebono was cold as well and the dough on the empanada was so dry. So I roll up in here, tell the lady i've never had one. Of course her reaction was the right one. She gives me an empty face, goes to the back and I don't see her for another 5 minutes. When she comes back, She hands me this massive looking thing, stuffed with 2 slabs of fresh cheese. I pay the 4 dollars and some change, and get on my way. While waiting for a friend, I eat the arepa as slow as I can. It only took a bite to realize how precious the next bites would be.
