    Majerete y empanada de guava...$2.25!!!
    Wendy M.

Thanks to this place, my blood sugar has risen to a record high. After trying some of the excellent bakeries in the neighborhood along St. Nicholas, 181st, and Broadway, I was up to my eyeballs in sugar - but El Manatial still stands out as my absolute favorite. Sure, the pastries at 5 Estrellas are a teeny bit flakier, but the pastries here are bigger and cheaper - something that I appreciate as a poor, hungry grad student. This bakery offers the best ratio of price to quality - in fact, it's one of the cheapest ones I've found, with a guava empanada running you a mere 85 cents and coffee for a buck. I don't have a favorite - everything here is comfortingly and solidly amazing. It's like having your own Dominican grandma making treats for you - which I obviously don't have, so visiting this place is the closest I'll get to renting one. The pudin de pan is amazing - at only a buck, it's a really solid piece of bread pudding that weighs at least a pound, and I tell myself that the workout I get from carrying it two blocks justifies me eating the entire brick. Now it's time for my public service announcement - get the majerete! I've always been a fan of the puerto rican version, but this place has given me a corn fetish. I can usually be identified as that awkward girl trying hard to balance six cups of it to consume in my dark cave over the course of the next few days - that's how good it is. The good: cheap enough that you can get everything, and delicious. I haven't had a problem with stale tasting pastries so far, and if you go mid-afternoon, usually any leftovers from the night before have been sold out, and you have a fresh batch of choices to select from. Go too late and things like the pan colombiano might be sold out. The not so good: Be prepared to speak spanish. There are two ladies that speak english, but the rest have looked me full in the face and continued en espanol. This was very awkward as I was trying to recall from my spanish classes whether sesenta was the name of a patron saint, or if it was how much I owed. Additionally, some of the other customers can be pushy - if it's your turn, and you hear the word SIGUENTE!, go claim that glorious baked good that's yours! They are cash only, so be prepared with several bills in your pocket - you won't spend all of them, but you will spend!

horrible!horrible! first of all my cake was supposed to be ready by 12 i got there at 12:30 and it took them an hour. Not even the worst part. The cake i ordered and gave a picture, did not match at all on the cake. they tried telling me a whole bunch of lies and said they did not have purple icing but they had a cake that was purple. then a worker there tried to fix it and she just made it worse. don't ever go here.

Cheap, delicious. I tried a few things - I can't remember what they were called exactly but one was filled with cheese and was slightly sweet and delicious! I also tried some of the cookies which I also really liked. Besides the sweet treats they offer, they also offer freshly baked breads and some savory pastries (much more my style). If this was on my way to work/school I might stop by more often because they have a large selection of goodies.

Never buying anything from this bakery again.

The orange has a base made of chocolate Rice Krispies. All of them have more fruity filling than the mousse. They are very fragile. I recommend eating there if you can. Finding can be a challenge because it's busy and there aren't many seats. I got mine to go just to be taken to the park across the street . The mushroom kind are totally ruined. It has strawberriy jelly and it was a mess. The orange one was almost ruined too. The mango has some diced mangoes. I devoured three of them instantly. Definitely come back to try more.

Yummmy!!! What a cute and unique dessert boutique! So many choices but what makes this place stand…read moreout are its adorable and colorful mousse delicacies. The inside was packed with folks! There was no place to sit down because of how busy it was but the staff kept the line moving quick enough. The place still seemed reasonably stocked with their desserts and treats, despite the late afternoon time that I arrived. I ordered 4 different treats to go and they're packed in small box individually. Unfortunately, they didn't quite stay intact during my trek back to my hotel and were tumbled around in the boxes. Nonetheless, the taste and flavors held up well and even after a few days in the fridge. The yuzu daisy has this vivid pastel yellow-pink base and adorable gelatinous yellow gem atop a white flower. The yuzu gives a subtle infusion of tart that is balanced out by the light delicate skin texture of the rest. Sitting atop a thin round rice crispy. I loved the red mushroom one which is a creamy pink mousse inside the cap. The stalk is a thin porcelain-white chocolate light base also filled with a rich cream. Adjacent are two cute little tree nuts. The orange and mango have such vivid colors and are aesthetically pleasing too. Just like the previous ones, their delicate chocolate exterior houses a rich tarty mousse-y filling. I think the mushroom has a better balance and variety of flavors. Although I don't eat mousse treats often, I look forward to trying some of the other ones in the future, like the blueberry, banana and cloud.

This used to be my favorite Italian bakery. I haven't been to this bakery in years like ten years…read moresince I was a teenager. Today I decided to make a special trip to go here to grab a few goodies. I forgot how small the place was and how low the ceilings were. That wasn't an issue though. The place was nice and cakes were stacked neatly. What was surprising to me is that they don't have any cookies laid in the front display. It's all placed in the back almost hidden. I was deeply disappointed with their cookie selection. It was deeply surprising that they don't sell the butter cookies that had jam in the middle and dipped with chocolate on one side with sprinkles. I did ask the clerk and even showed him a pic of what I was looking for and he said they never sold them. They only had the linzer cookies and they didn't look so good. They also did not have the lobster tail. They did have the sfogliatelle which they also called a lobster tail. I thought they were not the same? Some bakeries sell both and they are definitely not the same. I did end up buying one of their sfogliatelle with cream and some rugelachs. The sfogliatelle was good but the rugelachs tasted slightly underbaked. It did taste fresh though unlike many I've had in other bakeries. However, for $28 per pound, I wouldn't get it again. For those not having lobster tail and not having the Italian cookies, I will have to give Veniero's a low rating. I never thought an Italian bakery would not carry staples. Very disappointed. I need to find another Italian bakery now.

I had never heard of the place before, but I was happy to give it a try -- and I'm so glad I did. From the moment you walk in, the experience feels special. The store has two beautiful double doors that create such a grand entrance, and once inside, you immediately feel the energy. The place was bustling with people, and everyone seemed happy and excited -- from the customers to the team behind the counter and the baristas. The cookie case was overflowing with so many amazing choices that it was hard to decide! I ended up getting the Rocky Road cookie, a Double Chocolate Chip cookie, a Two Chip Chocolate Chip cookie, and a blueberry muffin to enjoy for breakfast the next morning. The service was absolutely impeccable, and everyone I interacted with was warm, friendly, and delightful. When I got home, I had half of the Rocky Road cookie with a cup of tea, and it was incredible. The cookie was large and chunky but still perfectly enjoyable -- not heavy or overwhelming. It literally melted in my mouth. The chocolate was rich and smooth, and every bite was just delicious. The next morning, I tried the blueberry muffin, and it was just as impressive. It was light and airy, not overly sweet like many blueberry muffins can be. It truly felt like a breakfast pastry. The blueberries tasted fresh and burst with flavor in every bite. I will definitely be back for more cookies. This was such a wonderful find, and I'm so happy my coworker introduced me to this place!

I will say that I didn't think I would like this cookie at all since usually I like thinner crunchier cookies. But holy cow!! I was blown away by the crispy edges and the interior wasn't too soft gooey either. The chocolate and walnuts added to the cookie enhanced the flavor even more! For such a big cookie the middle was cooked perfectly. Very chunky and sizable cookie too so I ate it throughout the day rather than one sitting!!
