Stopped at Taqueria El Grullense for a quick bite to get away from fast food, and it was exactly what we needed. The place was clean and quiet, which made it an easy stop. They brought out chips topped with salsa and beans, which was a fun change from the usual chips and salsa on the side. I ordered the al pastor tacos, and they really popped with flavor. My husband had the wet burrito and said it hit the spot. Solid food, good flavors, and a great alternative to fast food.

Steak burrito

Best burritos in Pacheco/ Concord. Been coming here for years and always get steak burrito with green salsa. Green salsa is what makes it all even better

Left overs of killer chips with yum salsa and cheese. 1st thing! 10/10

Lo mejor!!! I cannot wait to come back everytime I'm in the area. The best Mexican spot in the Bay Area hands down. The flavors are so unique and so rich I love every bite. The salsa verde alone is so different than any other place I've been to. Not to mention the people that work there are phenomenal. The restaurant has plenty of space to enjoy a spot to eat. Love coming here and look forward to my next time.

Shrimp taco

Came here for breakfast a while ago & wanted to give this place a shot for lunch. When they brought us our tacos to our table -- our food was COLD! I ordered the shrimp tacos & it comes with sour cream. The girl at the register said the sour cream made the tortilla turn cold that's why it's like that. But my partner ordered tacos with no sour cream and his asada tacos were just as cold. When we asked to have it warmed up the girl gave me an attitude. They literally just threw the whole taco back on the grill with all the lettuce and sour cream on there. If you're a food handler-- YOU DO NOT WARM UP LETTUCE because it can cause contamination and salmonella. I spoke Spanish too, so she couldn't talk crap about me to her coworker lol. My bf ordered 3 asada tacos & they put hardly any meat on a big tortilla. (As pictured!) Won't be back again! This place got 3 stars for a reason.... There's other better taco spots around town. $50 down the trash.... Didn't even eat my shrimp tacos because I was scared I was going to get sick from reheated lettuce and shrimp. HELL NO! I hope this review is helpful.

Just went here for the first time. As pulled up someone was washing the sidewalk with a hose. There were many men standing out front drinking out of paper bags. This location is right next to a busy liquor store. I went inside and was greeted by very friendly staff. I love the staff here, so nice. They brought chips to my table, super yummy. I got a carnitas burrito and it was so juicy and delicious. I really liked it. Good prices here. Went into the restroom and I assume one of the drunks had gotten everything in the bathroom soaking wet. Super gross and they only had one restroom. Went back to my car and half of it was wet from whoever was washing down the sidewalks. Restaurant is super clean inside (besides the restroom that some drunk destroyed). Menu has lots of wonderful options. I have been to other locations in this chain (in Mountain View) and this one was good just like the others. Mixed feelings about this place, kind of a rough crowd out front but wonderful folks inside and yummy food.

Tacos Asada con Todo

These tacos made me so happy! I placed a phone order and it was ready when arrived. Their horchata was also really good!

The carne asada tacos and salsa are excellent, and the desserts are a highlight, especially the Mexican gelatin treats with whipped cream and the cheesecake. The place is clean, the service is good, and the music is nice. As someone learning Spanish, I also enjoy practicing with them while they practice their English with me. It is on the pricier side, not a cheap meal, but the food is high quality, often organic, and made from more involved recipes. For that level of cooking, the price feels worth it. Putting the price comment last works well. It lets the food, service, and welcome land first, then explains why the bill is higher so it reads as fair rather than a complaint.

The zucchini was cooked perfectly and not overcooked or soggy at all, which made the whole burrito taste fresh and flavorful. We also got the appetizer with the chips, zucchini, arugula, and cheese and that ended up being one of my favorite dishes. Everything paired together really well and had a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy. I also tried the mango margarita with tajín on the rim and really liked it because it wasn't overly sweet. Super refreshing and balanced. The Dude ordered the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce and really enjoyed those as well. Customer service was also really good. They checked on us periodically throughout the meal and everyone was friendly and attentive without hovering. Overall the restaurant felt clean, relaxed, and comfortable. Definitely a spot we would come back to again. Especially a lot of vegetarian options ! Vegetarian approved!!!

Great food: frescas, entrees and desserts…read more I ordered lengua , pork belly and shrimp cheese tacos. I loved the crunchiness of the pork belly and the flavor. The lengua taco had meat that was tender and delicious. Both tacos were lightly seasoned and not hot. The shrimp cheese taco was my least favorite. The shrimps were small and had no flavor. There was a lot of cheese, but again there was no real flavor that made you want to order it again. I believe if they used large grilled shrimp and no cheese , but grilled onions, this taco would be a hit. The tacos came either a side of avocados, different peppers and sliced radishes. The frescas were made in-house: hibiscus, watermelon and cantaloupe. I ordered the cantaloupe fresca and it was refreshing with just amount of sweetness . My husband ordered the birria tacos and he definitely would ordered them again. He ordered the hibiscus fresca and said it was very good. He wants to go back and try more of their food. We ordered churros which were made in house. They tasted like the churros we had in Barcelona. We want to order this again. Everyone who came with us enjoyed what they ordered. Overall, Tacos El Patron was a wonderful experience because of the quality of their food. We hope to return very soon.

I have to be honest, one morning I was starving and forgot my lunch ao I was forced to order from this place. I ordered a breakfast burrito with papas, huevos, chorizo and frijoles. It was a $12 burrito for something that was the size youd give a kid. I was so disappointed! I would have been better iff elsewhere. I gave them 3 stars for convenience but I will keep trying other establishments in the area that better suit my needs. I hear their birria is what theyre known for. But itll be a while before I head back.

We did find one that had excellent street tacos but they were very pricey, three tacos for $16.99 with no chips. I would need to get two orders so 6 street tacos with tax and tip would be well over $40 which is No Bueno. We weren't sure what to expect from La Tapatia but I liked that the menu had crunchy tacos. I ordered a pork tamale, a crunchy ground beef taco and some arroz. My friend ordered a chile relleno and a crunchy ground beef taco. The food came with complimentary tortilla chips and a salsa dip with frijoles. The dip and Chios were fresh and the salsa with blended with frijoles was enjoyable. The crunchy tacos were fried nicely and had a good amount of filling. I thinking about trying carnitas as the filling but there a bit of a charge. The tamale was pretty good. The masa was not too dry or too wet. The meat to masa ratio was about right. My friend liked his chile relleno. The rice was more well done than I usually prefer and needed a little more seasoning. Overall, the food was delicious, service very attentive and pricing was a bit higher than other restaurants but still fair. I plan to take the family next trip and try other dishes. For a good family meal or with friends, drop on in for good food and service. You won't be disappointed.

Feb 2 2025 3.5 stars…read more Lately our go to Mexican eats is Cinco De Mayo in Martinez. Christians-smh. It is Sunday and Cinco is closed. The server and service here at Isla was perfect. I pointed out to he waiter that he had a crumb on his chin and he wiped and chuckled like a nice champ. The music is pleasant but a bit louder than needed so I brought out the earplugs. The entire indoor setup is nice. Our food is arriving after what seems like a long wait meaning either the food is being served fresh, hot and tasty, or we are in for a mediocre experience. Our two plates arrived. Chilli relleno and Grilled chicken enchilada. I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of the smallish squair white plates. Reminds me of trying to look upscale. We own plates like these and that didn't work. Wife's enchilada plate was covered with three hot and very tasty chicken filled food bombs plus sides. The chili plate looked a little weak (too much plate showing) but that was the tastiest chilli relleno ever in 40 years of me enjoying these. Served hot with cheese filled up to the ying yang, an extra spiciness I have never had before that I loved and me wishing I had a spoon to scrape up the end of the sauce. Unfortunately the smallish rice and bean servings on both plates were luke warm and tasted so so. . I had similar hotter to those with tv dinners back in the day. The two plates and a coke at $43 has me scratching my chin on whether we will make that drive again. That is unless it is Sunday. Then possibly. .

After giving it some thought, I decided to return and explore what it was about Isla that everyone raved over. This time around, I ordered the fish tacos, and I was hooked! Isla's fish tacos are phenomenal--easily the best in the area and a must-have every single time. I usually go for the tilapia, though I've sampled the red snapper as well. They come out super crispy on the outside yet remain incredibly moist inside, with the salsa and toppings melding together perfectly. I also visited their new location today and was pleasantly surprised by the ample parking and comfortable seating. The space is beautiful, making it even more enjoyable to stop by for those irresistible fish tacos. Here's a quick rundown of my ratings: Fish (all varieties): 8.7/10 Birria: 7/10 (good, but not their standout item) Carne Asada Super Burrito: 5.8/10 When it comes to satisfying my fish taco cravings, Isla remains the only choice.
