Lamb just out of the pit.
    Lisa P.

Wow what a fantastic experience. Came on Saturday at 9:30 am and there was no wait. We were greeted and all the menu items were explained to us. The meats were all delicious... soft and juicy. We had some of everything the lamb sausage tacos had a delicious lamb flavor, the lamb belly was very unique, the lamb cabeza and beef tongue were some of the best I've ever had. Both the sauces on the table were flavorful and mild... add some of the chili oil for some spice. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We were invited into the trailer with the pits to watch them pulling out the cooked lamb. They explained the process in English and Spanish... I am from out of state but can't wait to come back. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Texas this time. Highly recommend you come here and order more than you would normally eat because you'll want more... it's that good!

Line at 9:30 am 11/22/25, took about 20 minutes to order.

Had the barbacoa from lamb, half pound, two tacos of barbacoa de cabeza de rez, one taco de lengua and all was good. I have had more tender lamb barbacoa in Houston and the cabeza was very fatty. The tongue was just ok. Go and support but it's a bit out of the way for me to return. Very pricey as well.

El Grandpa was excellent! Everything I had was super tasty. Everything is homemade, including the salsas, tortillas and aguas frescas! It's a cool atmosphere, with picnic tables. Since they're only open two days a week, it's busy, but well worth the short wait. I had the barbacoa and cabeza de rez(beef head) and an horchata. It's family-run. El Grandpa(Javier) is really nice, and will even show you the BBQ pits and tell you about his process!

    Barbacoa ??

Worst barbacoa ever. It is served in chunks and has no flavor. Also the vast majority was hard and rubbery. I paid $70 for literally nothing. Bad thing is I took it to-go and live in Liberty Hill. Save your time and money.

Great tacos. Meat is very tender and melts in your mouth. Get there early before they sell out of the meat you want. Friendly staff and service. Only downside is that it's kind of out of the way. Not an easy place to just stop by for a quick taco. Also they are only open until 1pm so forget a late lunch or dinner taco.

Two hour wait on a Sunday AND they ran out of barbacoa...

They have a tiny parking lot, so the entire street was filled with parked cars. We came at 10:45am on a Sunday morning and waited in line, the staff told us they predicted it would take a one hour wait, but it was 12:30pm by the time we reached the food truck and ordered. It was 12:45pm by the time we got our food to go. El grandpa came out to the line to tell everyone that they had to run out of a ton of stuff, but he only said it in Spanish, and none of the other workers came out to translate it to English. So we had to ask some people in line what he was saying. They had ran out of all the meat except for sausage. They did not have any consume or arroz con Leche. And they were very low on Agua Fresca. They ran out of cold tamarind Jarritos. The prices on the menu are per taco. If you want to come and give them a try, I highly advise you to come very early in the morning, they open at 8 AM and close at 1 PM or when they run out of food. Over to the side, they have a table with onions, limes and cilantro. They had a ton of covered outdoor tables and seating. We paid $74 for 14 jalapeño lamb sausage tacos, 1 agua Fresca and 1 mandarin Jarritos. We thought it was expensive. They included red and green salsas in our to go order. The food and drinks that we did get were cooked well and flavorful. We will be coming back at opening another day to try the barbacoa.

Came here with my dad and bf at around 10 or 11 Saturday morning and we got there right before the big rush! No long wait for us, we half a pound of all the meats and a sausage link, it was all super yummy! Their chili oil was so delicious. We peeked our heads around the BBQ pit and we were invited to take a closer look, it was very kind of him to offer that. Very cozy homey feeling, so worth the 30 minute drive!

I've been trying to come out here for this experience for a little while now. This was definitely worth the trip. They invite guest to see when they open the pit and retrieve the meat. They also handed out small samples which were great. It's all outside to thankfully it was a nice sunny day. The food was so satisfying. Natural. Clean. . The consume was probably my favorite. Highly recommend this spot.

We came super early! Good thing because by the time that we left, that place was packed!! Service was amazing and the food was super good. Love the meat love the flavor. Can't wait to go back.!

How does this place only have two reviews? I almost don't want to post about it to keep it a secret! I came here before checking out the poppy festival, and it wasn't crowded at all, thankfully. What stood out to me the most is the old-school style of cooking barbacoa, which many barbecue places don't do anymore. This made it my obvious choice, but they also serve lamb in a few other ways. Once you get your tacos, there's a small station where you can add sauces, cilantro, and onions to enhance the flavor without overpowering the meats. The meat was flavorful and tender, and seating was pretty open and easy. However, be mindful that it's all outside, so weather could play a factor. This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere, so keep a lookout for the truck. I would definitely come back, not only for the food but also for the friendly service.

This place was delicious! Consistent line and I can see why. They do have some parking spots but I would recommend going early because I heard they sell out. I got their lengua taco and a half pound of barbacoa and montalayo. Both choices were delicious. The consome wasn't my favorite but everything was great. Definitely would go back for more! I took my stuff to go but plenty of tables to eat at

    Lengua taco

Barbacoa is a tough food to tackle as the style of cooking can be so different. El Grandpa has it own flair to it. I got 1 Barbacoa (lamb) taco and 1 Lengua (beef). The Lengua was the better of the two. I do think seasoning to flavor the meat could use some work. Both meats were tender but lacked juiciness. There is self serve onions, cilantro and lime station (three) located by every seating area to help with congestion. The salsas are flavorful with the red being the spicier version. I did not try the hot oil on the taco instead went the simple route of onions, cilantro and lime. The part of the tacos that really was the star was the corn tortillas...they were soft and flavorful. I found out these are sourced at San Pedro Limon down the street. All in all the service was great, set up convenient but the meat was missing something. I do recommend trying as it was all fresh and already at 10am a huge gathering of Loyal customers.

Definitely authentic Barbacoa. The broth worth it. The price I paid for this meal $38 with tip. A little expensive I feel.

I was excited to try it because we all know, the Hill Country has some of the best BBQ in the state. The restaurant itself sits in a huge shopping complex and can easily be missed if you're not paying attention. The restaurant is counter service and not too big. It seemed like they did more pick up orders than actual people dining in. They have quite a few locations scattered around Texas so they must be doing something right. My friend did the pick up so I can't speak on the customer service. My friend ordered a smaller family pack which was a perfect amount of food for the amount of people eating. It came with 2 pounds of up to 3 meats and 3 pints of sides. It also came with all the fixins' like bread, sauce, onion and pickles. We got brisket, sausage and pork ribs along with mac & cheese, green beans and potato salad. The meal was not bad by any means, but it's not that top tier BBQ you come to expect in Texas. It's more of the backyard cookout BBQ. I've been spoiling myself and checking out the Texas Monthly Top 50 and Michelin star spots recently and this is not that. Respectable 'que though! The brisket didn't have that delicious bark or a prominent smoke ring, but there was flavor. The ribs didn't fall off the bone and these days, everybody is talking about that tenderism. This didn't have that, but again, tasty. The sausage was probably my favorite meat. It was sliced super thing which isn't my favorite kind of slice, but it packed flavor. The sides were ok, nothing to write home about. If you're looking to satisfy a quick BBQ craving, this place can be a great choice for your local neighborhood spot. I wouldn't go out of my way to get back here but would happily come back if in the immediate area.

However, the steak was too far gone to help. It was closer to medium and, again, the cut was bad. (Note: I didn't complain!
